This post, combined with your avatar, make me think we're long lost brothers.

Seriously, Viewtiful Joe for Smash.

He really does look similar to Viewtiful Joe...
Whoever made Viewtiful Joe should sue Platinum.

Seriously, the fact that Kamiya ripped off such a unique Capcom character just adds to my belief that he's a hack.

I think you're a little confused. Kamiya doesn't even work at Platinum - he's been part of Konami for decades.

You must be thinking of Kojima.

With alts taken into account, it might have been possible...

Granted, vitriol over things like walk-offs confuses me but aside from troll comments I don't bother commenting on it since I'm a college student juggling a game journalist internship and I have better things to do than argue on GAF, lol.
It's really simple. They have a hugely skewed risk-reward associated with them, which promotes camping. At least a lot of the ones in Smash 4 are temporary, or have hazards in place to mitigate them a bit.

Man, what if Bayonetta appears during Palutena's Temple Taunt for Sonic?

I mean they're talking about a Sega mascot, and then the newest one pops in. I'd literally die---on the spot.

Do you thin Sakurai would be dedicated enough to give Dark Pit his own Palutena Taunt version for all the characters as well?

It would be a clever way to sneak Medusa into some of the conversations.

Why would Medusa be more likely to show up in those compared to Pit's? She only spoke to Dark Pit once.

Regardless, I think we'll only get unique conversations for Pit, with Dark Pit maybe getting one which is repeated for all characters - going off Chapter 22, probably something along the lines of Palutena starting to give him advice and Dark Pit cutting her off.

EDIT: I remember the Tower of Smash rumor, while debunked, had an interesting take on Mewtwo's FS...he'd split into two, both X and Y, and they'd basically focus their attacks in the center. When I saw the Mega Mewtwos Trophy in the Direct, that's what I'd thought of.
Tower of Smash got super debunked. It got pretty much everything wrong.
Since 3DS didn't get any Luigi's Mansion representation I hope they add music from Dark Moon to the Wii U version

Library Piano
Those Who Lurk in The Shadows
King Boo's Illusion
Dual Scream
Gloomy Manor

If it's not too much to ask :3
I'm totally ok with either straight rip off or a completely new arrangement/remix
I'm pretty bummed that Luigi's Mansion is coming back. We should've had a stage based on Dark Moon instead.

I gotta say, I'm so excited about the stage roster for this game! Seems like they're going all out when it comes to both new stages and returning ones, allowing this particular stage roster to represent many different eras within Nintendo's franchise history. Hope there will be a decent number of unlockable stages as well!

It's expected. Characters with complex designs will get the downgrade.

Speaking of merch, I'm surprised there's no Smash-related gachapon to this day.

Yikes. Those amiibo... definitely seem to have taken a dive in quality. Kirby - the only one from wave 1 I was planning to get - still looks all right, but Marth looks really dinky - his sword especially - and Peach isn't looking too hot either. Mario looks okay, though.

I also remember seeing close-up pics of the Zelda and Link amiibo, and they look... really unfortunate.

EDIT: Looked at the rest of the amiibo pics at that link. The other ones actually still look good to great, so I guess it's just certain ones (Marth, Peach, Link, Zelda) that got the shaft. Can't win 'em all, I guess. At least most of them seem to look pretty good!

I'm pretty sure they'll have amiibo at the press event I'm going to Monday. Looking forward to seeing/handling them in person!

Masked Man

I said wow
I don't think the amiibo look that bad, but perhaps that's just me. Peach's is good enough for me--certainly not problematic enough to make me question my preorder. As long as Mac's looks okay, I'll be happy. :D

best dream ever

have DLCs ever raised a game's ESRB rating?

Back during the ESRB leak, I remember reading in their site that DLCs are rated separately, if there's questionable content. They don't change the rating of the main game, just need to rate the new DLC separately.

I only want Wario's amiibo since you can't really find any merchandise of Wario in his Warioware costume.

I might get ROB's, though, just for the novelty of it.

So what would you all say are the top five points you're most excited about from the Smash Wii U Direct? Mine are probably...

1) Tons of music / My Music / CDs

These all kind of belong with one another and were located right next to each other in the Direct, so I'm lumping 'em together. As a huge fan of video game music, Smash soundtracks are pretty much like the holidays arriving on... whatever day a new Smash game comes out. The Direct showed us that we're getting a minimum of 437 songs total, and that just blows my mind. That has to be close to, if not the biggest game soundtrack out there, and it's filled to the brim with awesome rearrangements and direct rips of some of my favorite songs. I'm going to spend tons of time in the Sounds menu and My Music, where it looks like there are going to be more options to play around with than ever. Also, collecting CDs to gradually get new tracks and never knowing what I'm going to get next is like one of my favorite things ever, so I'm really glad it's back. <3

2) Palutena's Guidance

I've said before that the aspect I'll miss most about Snake is his Codec calls, and with Palutena's Guidance I'm getting exactly what I was hoping would replace them. I'm still kind of surprised it's actually happening. Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of my favorite games of all time, and it has more personality and genuine heart in one stage than most other games even attempt in their entire run. Seeing what its excellent characters have to say about this legendary roster is going to be so, so great, especially if Hades makes some appearances. I can't wait.

3) Item Frequency

Probably the most surprising and glaring omission in Smash 3DS for me, I generally love playing with items but the only rate at which they spawn in the 3DS version is way too high for me, feeling like something between Brawl's High and Very High. It makes the game feel very Mario Kart Wii-esque. I've been bummed out about this because I believe Smash 3DS/Wii U's item lineup is the best the series has ever seen (except for the Fan being cut...), but it's really hard to enjoy such a great lineup of items when they're just appearing too often for their own good. I'm really relieved Smash Wii U is retaining the ability to adjust their frequency and I hope this gets patched into the 3DS version at some point. It doesn't feel like something that should be beyond the 3DS's capabilities, but I wouldn't exactly know either.

4) 8-Player Smash]

This is huge. I'm sure mileage - and fun - will vary quite a bit between each stage when you have that many players, but the ability to play 5- to 8-player matches is just the coolest thing to me. I have gaming get-togethers fairly often, and I know we'll be playing almost nothing but Smash Wii U once it comes out, and this way very few people (if anyone) will have to rotate/sit out. I'm not 100% sold on 8-player matches in the giant stages like The Great Cave Offensive yet (they seem like they'd be more fun in levels closer to the size of Temple and Big Battlefield), but I'm looking forward to trying it out myself.

5) Mewtwo is on the way

While I don't specifically care about Mewtwo itself that much (though I think it's by far the cut Melee character most deserving of a comeback and I had a feeling it was going to happen), Mewtwo represents the ultimate official confirmation that character DLC is totally happening and something they've been planning on, which is super exciting for obvious reasons. Personally I'm still hoping for Dixie and the Chorus Kids, but either way it's clear Nintendo is very aware of the desire and need for occasional content updates in a game like Smash in this day and age, and if the way they're doing Mario Kart 8's DLC is any indication, we have nothing but exciting times ahead DLC-wise. I will pre-order every stage and character pack you release, Nintendo. My money... let me throw it at you.

Thoughts, anyone else?
