Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare |OT| House of CODs

It looks like COD is back, this game looks legit.

Ghosts hurt the COD brand so they had to earn it again, and it appears they might have to a degree (not going as far to say its MW2 but let me get my hands on it to decide).
Mw2 hurt the COD brand, I don't understand why people keep thinking that was a good game, maybe because it was their first?

So, is it more of the same CoD campaign or are there significant changes? Do you use the jetpack a lot more and does the level design take account of that? Or are you still stop and pop behind cover for most combat scenarios?

There's the occasional bit where you have to do a big jump, where your Ai partner will helpfully remind you to use your exo suit. It's all mostly optional, barring a few levels near the end where the hookshot is used a lot.

For consoles which one is expected to be the most populated, having both consoles I don't want to buy both games and my friends are evenly split on both.

Considering there are almost twice as many PS4s out there compared to X1's - I would say the PS4 would have the larger share of players. That said, Xbox is synonymous with Call of Duty, so the X1 will undoubtedly have a very strong playerbase as well.

Just an update from earlier guys. Honeymoon phase ended around level 25.

The game is frantic as fk. Nowhere is safe. Enjoyed it at 1st, but ends up being exhausting/frustrating. Streaks are ineffective and end up taking a long ass time to acquire (feels a lot like Ghosts). I enjoy powerful streaks, but if you like Ghosts you'll probably like this.

The pump action shotgun is awful. I don't see why Shotguns can't just be decent weapons in these games. Triple burst rifles are impossible when your jump boosting everywhere. Good luck managing that on controller. Explosives are also less effective when people can dash/double jump everywhere. Netcode seemed okay at first, until it's totally against you...like usual in past few CODs (MW3 and BO2 especially). Either in your favor, or totally not.

After spending a few hours, I was really impressed at first, but then found the game just difficult to play. There's no real choke points as anyone can jump boost through anything at any time. There's around a 1 sec cooldown to the boost itself, so guys are constantly dashing everywhere. Be ready to up your sensitivity a couple notches if you're a default player like myself. Most matches are generally low kill amounts, and getting over a 1 KD is doing pretty damn good in this game(could also be a TDM thing).

I'll keep playing to see if it gets better. You'll all probably have mixed opinions when you play it. This makes me realize how I'd prefer COD to go back to formula, but instead focus on fun instead of hard balance. BO2 did this great, except for the awful netcode which is why I stopped playing.

It didnt hurt the COD brand, personally I didnt play it but everything seems to revolve around that game.

Its like B.C. and A.D.

Personally I thought BLOPS2 was a great game to.

MW3 and Ghosts hurt brand, not MW2. Community hurt MW2 with all of their exploits and noob-tube bullshit. AW is the step that COD needed and what is more interesting is, that Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games are stepping it up, instead of IW in recent years.

well, shit.

Maybe it get's better when there are more people, read noobs, online. and maybe they need to turn on dedicated servers?

I can see this being the norm for people days down the line, from the start it just looks way to busy, unpredictable and frantic to be fun. And so many installments later and it seems like netcode is still not improving, no wonder this franchise is falling in sales. Hopefully it pushes them to go back to basics.

Can anyone verify if this is true:
Aside from the usual camping (now they can be invisible too, and hover 500 feet in the air), it's quite fun. I just wish more people would play in the classic playlist (no exo powers).

The quote comes from this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHMFZLHz6mU
He plays most popular titles early (claims the retailers in the region he lives in aren't strict on release dates)

Cause it was a good game.
It really wasn't. All it was, was COD4 made for idiots. They removed all the good features and threw in no recoil and a bunch of useless shit not to mention P2P which is now the bane of the entire serious and why no one can take it seriously.

Phew, almost gave into the hype, thanks for the last minute save. The netcode being similar to BLOPS2 is a total deal breaker.

It wasn't by any stretch. They just put as much customization as it was possible to come up with at the time, and that was it. No balance, cheesy weapons and perks, P2P instead of dedicated servers on PC, barely any cheating protection. Maps were great, I give them that.

I guess I'm an idiot then cause I played thousands of hours in both. Stupid me!

Posting again since I didn't get a response on the last page:

Do I have to preorder to get the Day Zero edition or can I just go to Best Buy or Gamestop tomorrow and pick it up without a preorder?

One of my biggest issues with Ghosts/AW is the nerf hammer.

Why can't shotguns be good? Why can't killstreaks be great? Why doesn't scavenger refill everything and not just ammo? Where is the Stealth/VSAT?(the one they have in AW is not nearly the same, just an upgraded UAV)

Sure not everyone acquires this stuff, and I understand trying to appeal to the casuals by nerfing all the fun into the ground, but really? I'd think making things slightly ridiculous is more fun than what the series is turning into. The mobility stuff is a good idea, but it destroys classic COD map flow. There's always a dude behind you as he jumped over the wall when you shot that other dude. As busted as MW2 and BO2(sans the netcode) is, those games are a blast to play because everything is crazy effective. Just my opinion. Again, everyone enjoys/enjoyed COD for different reasons.

However, some of the best selling/hypest titles in the series are the ones with balls-ridiculous multiplayer.

So I just tried purchasing this on US PSN from the UK using PayPal, but even though I got an email that I was charged $60, I've got no funds in my wallet. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think we need more opinions on this.

After launch as well. If it's P2P, it's connecting him to a small pool of players that may not be the best suited for him. With a larger base after launch, the connection should be much stable with a larger pool and better connections to choose from. I remember Ghosts didn't have the "dedicated servers" turned on before launch. Maybe they are planning something similar?

most fun i had with cod was running around with the spas12 in mw2, sadly the only game where shotguns actually are good

We will see tonight here in EU how it will work and when the game is fully released everywhere. Yes there are people playing but not enough. I am going to play tonight here in EU will give impressions when it starts.

And like you say everyone plays CoD for different reasons,i do like the traversal in here because it's different. But the hoovering and invisible is only for a short moment you do know that right max? It's a exo ability and only can be used once after death it is refilled but not when your alive for the whole time.

But can you play as a Spacey?...lol

This will be my first CoD game on PC so we'll see if my terrible skills translate to this version.
They will :(

You know what. If I could play as Kevin Spacey in MP this would be my GOTY regardless of any other merits of the game.

It's safe to say by now that COD4-like multiplayer isn't coming back. Let the past be past. This one looks decent for a COD. At least they tried to spice things up a little.

So what's the noobtube this time around?

The wrist rocket. The stream i watched every player in the map was shooting them off immediately after every re-spawn. Except that they don't explode right away, they are on a timer. It was funny to watch because the player streaming was spending more time avoiding rockets then actually shooting other players. He would run into a room and see the grenade icon, run out of the room and run into another grenade icon, run back into the room he just ran out of and get killed by a grenade. He was complaining about it being a shit fest of grenades, but every time he re-spawned he himself would resort to the wrist rocket for kills. Hopefully there is a perk that gives you a shield to make you immune to explosions. Otherwise it will be worse than the noobtube.

Not kidding when I say my PS4 version coming tomorrow will be going back as a result of your review. I hate having no choke points.
