I am really hoping they show some story elements and stuff that is not on Episode Duscae in Jump Festa.

I would love to see big towns. Noctis and co walking around Accordo, interacting with NPCs...also some in-game cutscenes with other important characters.

But I doubt they will show those this year...

We haven't actually seen much of the stuff of Episode Duscae. The demo will contain events and cutscenes not present in the builds we have seen so far.

"You added fishing because you like to fish right?"
"Yeah, so much my wife almost left me."
THAT JAPANESE AWKWARDNESS.

Still, having a dedicated team to walking animations in relation to the terrain, how a certain character drinks his coffee according to his background... Man, Japanese devs attention to details is truly something else.

Is it just me who thinks that Noctis looked a bit different in the early CG trailers than his recent version? It's as if the recent model is more thiner or something...
I think i prefer the older version.

Old:

New:

Nomura mentioned many times that 2006 Noctis design was not final and was kinda placeholder.

The old Noctis was definitely cool, but the new one fits the game's theme a bit better.

He's been obviously redesigned.

New version is better because its more realistic and convincing.

Really?I guess i missed that.

2006 CG Noctis looked more badass to me.

He does, but I don't think it fits his character. A lot of people assumed noctis was Cloud/Squall kind of "emo" character because of his early design, when his actual character is far from that.

He looks like a CGi puppet in the older version.

His newer version actually looks like he has real skin, and isn't carved out of wood.

I know it probably won't happen, but I wish they would give Noctis's old clothes as a bonus costume or something.

I like his new clothe but at the same time I miss the old one as well.

That would be nice.
I don't much like his current costume but i guess it fits with the other characters more than his older clothes.

This is not even 100% OG Noctis.Pretty sure this image was shown after the 2011 conference on the old versus XIII website.

It could be in the game ,and the outfit seems really cool.

I really hope Noctis has a full wardrobe with multiple options tbh.

I'm pretty sure he was already redesigned by that point. Seeing that image makes me wish you could keep your weapons out instead of having them disappear after every attack, I like feeling more badass carrying a big sword around.

2006 Noctis looks too much straight out of a manga/anime (hence the Sasuke comparisons).
Final design makes him look like a realistic 20yrs man, with trendy haircut (wheter its good or bad, that's another question). I'd sa he fits better with the overall theme as he is now.

Edit: and yeah i want the suits he was seen wearing as an alternate costume. And bath suits for everyone.

So the car was swerving all over the place on the road because they flashed their headlights.

That's so cool. Totally missed that part.

I wonder what would happen if we run over a pedestrian. Or crash into another car, or being ran over by a speeding car while we're on foot.

That is OG Noctis. I have an issue of Dengeki PlayStation from 2008 or 9 with this exact render on the cover. 2011 was actually the first time we saw redesigned Noctis.

never liked OG Noctis clothes, always thought it as the weakest part of his design

It actually makes we worry. The only other game in the franchise with nearly that much scale and attention to details is Final Fantasy XII. That game also went through development hell, delayed several times, changed directors and in the end is clearly incomplete narrative-wise.

I hope Final Fantasy XV could at least avoid that last part.

Minus the narrative you just described the project.

While there are similarities, there are also differences. FFXII struggled quite a lot for them doing it on PS2 (and SQEX execs forcing the ever-so-swooooon~ worthy Vaan as the main character, while they seem to be pretty happy with Noctis & his gang of friends). Their plans were simply more than PS2 could ever handle no matter how much time they would have spent on it. They spent way too much time trying to do something that the PS2 simply couldn't handle and that caused most of the delays. For example, they were developing FFXII to have a fully streamed overworld, but in the end had to cut it into smaller areas because they couldn't get it to work with the visual fidelity they were going for. FFXV could have been the same, perhaps, but they made the decision to skip the last generation. FFXV's move to PS4Bone might've ended up being a huge blessing for the project, as they have fewer limitations and can perhaps (more) fully realize Nomura's ambitious plans for the project than they ever could had they kept it as a PS3 game, spending even more time trying to force their vision on hardware that wasn't up for the challenge.

FFXV is also trying to keep the story pretty simple, overall, whereas FFXII build up this whole story of political intrique that they didn't really end up handling all that well after Matsuno's departure. And while the director has changed, Nomura is still in the building and seems to have gone over the story with Tabata in detail, so there shouldn't be the kind of clear changes in storytelling during the game as FFXII had. Nomura had ample time to not only lay a strong foundation for everything, but to prepare his successor for the job, whereas Matsuno's departure of the project seemed pretty sudden.

And a lot of the delays with FFXV were delays in the start/advancement in its production altogether that weren't always fully FFXV related (FFXIII & FFXIV screw ups), whereas FFXII took a long time even though they were working on it full-time for many years because it was a troubled project from beginning to end and it was its own worst enemy where the end product was that of compromise, not the delays giving them time to do everything like they wanted them to be from the start. FFXV would probably have had gone through similar rounds of compromises affecting the end product, but I think we can already see some of the clear benefits that FFXV has gotten since its move to PS4Bone that more than likely would not have been possible on last-gen hardware and apart from some struggles getting the game off the ground since its announcement, they seem to be advancing pretty well at this point of development (well, as well as a project of this scope can, they aren't out of the woods yet). And this with a team of ~200-300 developers, not some 1000 man/woman strong team FFXIV had to have to fix it, so hopefully this means SQEX also has resources left to start up & advance with other projects as well.

Incredible, outstanding visuals. I really love the night-day cycle, and the entire "vibe" of the world. It's like ours, but "not really like ours", like magic and fantasy slowly creeping into our everyday life. I want to experience it first hand, god damn it
please have real cities and lots of NPCs

...I really don't like the effect Skyrim has had on game design. Open fields are not fun, never were. We got sick of running through them way back on Ocarina of Time.

You and I both, pal. Open world is more often than not a codeword for "crap level design" and "empty vast space of nothing interesting nor story-related where we trow enemies at random so you can farm". Yes, it can be done properly, but I am not a fan of this trend at all.

I doubt we will have much option, if any. They probably paid quite a lot for Roen to design the clothes, and I don't think they did multiple clothes for the characters (other than things like formal dress for Noctis/Stella(Luna) for the party). Also I expect XV to have quite lots of Visual Work's CG movies so it would be awkward to have lots of clothes.

XV was actually said to feature less pre-rendered cutscenes.

It's certainly better than the alternative of narrow corridors and linear exploration paths of just walking in a straight line from point A to point B.

FFXII and Xenoblade handled having large explorable areas just fine without being detrimental to the story or other aspects of the game.

I don't see why large open areas is a turn off for players to explore beyond the scope of just the story for optional fights or quests.

Story writers handle the plot and story and have no bearing on the map and world designers. If both teams do their job right, I don't see why you can't have an open world game with a good story.

I would lol if we'd have to compensate for damaging someone's car, or the game goes into active battle with random NPCs.

IGN 10/10 "It's like GTA with stats!"

Well actually it seemed to be in developement hell only for the pre-2012 era, or the time it was called Versus XIII, but since it got renamed to XV it has been smooth sailing.
If anything, you should consider it as if it started real developement only in 2012.

And the change of director (and staff) is not a problem: if you've followed it theough the years, you should see how it's initial concepts are are still solid as rocks. Tabata only seems to be a positive thing for the game.

What Nomura said in that interview was that now they can do cool action set piece scenes, which was only possible on pre-rendered in the past, in real time. It doesn't necessarily mean there will be less pre-rendered cutscenes. I remember back in the versus days Nomura said on the interview he wants to do all the cutscenes that you don't need player control in pre-rendered.(like the prom scene which was in real-time back in 2011, they changed that to pre-rendered later. In 2012 Nomura said the ratio of real-time and pre-rendered cutscene was 7:3. Of course many things have changed since and the idea could have changed with change in director and also thanks to the power of Luminous Studio.

It seems weird that we can fight Nif soldiers in this section of the game since a treaty is gonna take place. We know they'll screw them over and become an opposing side but in this section of the game that doesn't seem to be the case.

yea I thought the same. I am sure they will explain it in the demo.

2006 Noctis has too much of a babyface.

Hmm... not necessarily. Based off what you just mentioned, I'm thinking this is how the game will start off :

- Noctis & co. at Lucis while treaty talks are going on
- 2nd last day of treaty talks, to conclude next day.
- Party on the night before the treaty signing, meet Stella scene.
- Nifl attempts a night-time assault at Lucis
- Regis dies/or escapes with Cor
- Noctis escapes with his bros
- Enter Duscae the next morning
- Radio station still unaware that Lucis has been taken over by Nif
- Thus talking as if the treaty will conclude that night, even though they already got back-stabbed
- Nif sending patrol ships to find Noctis
