Games you remember, names you don't

can i post and answer myself?
i wish i'd found this thread earlier as it'd probably have saved me days of searching.

it was a fps-type game from pretty early modern pc times (win 3.1). and was kind of live actiony with a death robot chasing you around an abandoned spaceship while you had to run around and collect clues?

the answer was iron helix!

A game that I played on the original Playstation. It was about you being a ninja and having to sneak into a japanese castle and other types of missions. The idea was to get in undetected, kill your target and get out. I remember that as a kid I used a cheat code to get smoke bombs that would make an enemy unconscious thus granting the highest scored kill. At the end of the level you got a ranking - when all kills were done undetected you got the highest ranking.

I have to imagine it's one of the Tenchu games. Probably the first one? Here's a video to check: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjGZuq8Y8n8

ok i got one. this is gonna be a toughy i think because i don't remember a lot.

there's a post about your first game, which i thought was ET for atari130xe but i started having flashbacks about this game.

it's a submarine/ship game where you being hunted. there was a lot of clicking and lot of screen switching going on.

it was either for dos or win 3.1

it is NOT silent hunter, although the gameplay is very similar. unless there was a copy of SH released prior to 96. the reason i know this is that i played the game when i lived in trinidad. i moved to canada when i was 12 and was born in 83. however the gameplay reminds me a lot of what SH looks like.

was there a precursor for SH? or a game that was very similar that was released a few years before?

Shit dude. This is really strange, but your flashbacks gave me flashbacks. My friend used to have a PC game with submarines in it... but I distinctly remember it being an FMV game. I remember he had that, and another game that I don't really remember (but it may also have been an FMV game), that started out with scrolling titles and some broad narrating. The only thing I remember from that game was that the first line she said was "In the twenty first century..."

Man. The 90's.

I remember playing this game on Sega channel at one of my babysitter's houses where you walked around in a dystopian cyber punk setting talking to people in bars and stuff. It was probably like 20 years before I figured out that it was Shadowrun.

Hi all, does anyone recall a game for the c64. The basic premise was to kill a guy that runs through the centre of the screen with boulders, TNT etc. I loved it but can't for the life of me remember the name!

Edit should say it had a sort of coyote and roadrunner vibe

There was this game on C64 that 2 different sections

Odd levels were platform, single screen. You ran and jumped around in a motorbike, collecting tiny..diamonds ? Hitting enemies or falling off platforms would make the character and his motorbike fall to the bottom of the screen (iirc) and the bike would explode.
Black background, purple or red platforms.

In even levels you were a much bigger and pixelated sprite. On foot, running left to right (scrolling) on a green field, jumping to collect balloons, possibly jumping over flowers.
Some piece of classical music was playing in even levels, no music in platform levels.

(i want to say it this piece but i might be wrong)

Not a very good game by any stretch of the imagination, but i once knew the title and not being able to remember it is driving me mad.

Cliff Hanger. A brilliantly original game idea which I'd quite like to see revisited.

Hey !

Today, I remembered a game I played in the end of the 90's/beginning of the 00's on PC.

I only played the demo actually but I vaguely remember a "pirate-like" guy fighting enemies with a "pirate sword" like this one on a bay near a small city. It had a little bit of platforming but mostly fights (in the demo, at least).

Any idea, gaf ?

Edit : It was a 3D game, if it can helps

Elder Scrolls: Redguard?

There's another it might be, but I can't quite recall the name right now.

Edit: Drakan. Or possibly Crusaders of Might & Magic. Or possibly Asghan.

Holy shit, it was Redguard indeed ! Never knew I played an Elder Scrolls game until now, haha !

Thanks infinitely, my inner child is more than happy to remember this :)

These are some games I rented as a kid but forgot the names of, it would be nice to know them so I can have some youtube nostalgia trips

One was a turn-based PS1 RPG with a 2D art style viewed from an overhead perspective and what I believe was a grid-based combat system a-la Final Fantasy Tactics. I remember there being a heavy music theme and a girl with a large tuba-like instrument as her weapon. She fired musical notes at her enemies.

There was also a turn-based PS2 RPG with 3D graphics and a combat system that involved you inputting commands into the d-pad to select attacks. For example: the main character was a melee brawler, when his turn came up you'd input left-left-up and he'd do a combo to the enemy based on that. Keep in mind it was entirely turn-based.

Finally, there was a diablo-style hack-and-slasher PS2 RPG with an isometric perspective and extremely colorful 2-D graphics. That's kind of all I remember about it, I believe it was released later in the life cycle of the system.

Some DOS game about a dot. It had really bizarre narrative with things like "dot got out of bed and looked around". Would love to know what it's called.

Rhapsody. Cute game.

Last one could be either Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (or its sequel) or Champions of Norrath (or its sequel). I'd suggest checking those first. I think the latter of the two was more colorful.

No but this looks really good.

Not this one either..

I just spent 4 hours looking through kotaku articles and google image lists, and I'm feeling like I'm just not meant to find this game right now... :\
It had more of a futuristic look to it, instead of a medieval period one. So it was more tech and guns and no magic. I wonder if it was a turn-based isometric action strategy hybrid. I remember the article saying something like you could activate some kind of slow-mo effect to stop time, but I could be mixing up my details at this point.

ah frustrated.

Is it Judas Code by any chance?

I don't remember much, so maybe this is a bit of a stretch; but I've been looking for an arcade cabinet game for years.

It was maybe a late 80s, early 90s game, one-two player coop. isometric shooter (I forget which). It was in a futuristic setting, the colors very gray (doors/walls/floor tiles), I think there were buttons you had to press around the map to open doors (this might be other game memories seeping in). I used to play it all the time as a kid at an old run-down store, but I've always wondered what it was.

Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters is my best guess, although I guess it could also perhaps be Vindicators or Alien Syndrome.

Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters I think is it, looks exactly how I remember it in my head. Thanks a lot :D!

This is a long shot but:
Arcade game I used to play when I was younger. Streets of Rage style beat em up where you and a co op partner play as two ninjas going through America(?) I believe. You could do things like grab onto poles and kick from them and throw guys into each other.
Opening scene had a blue ninja riding a boat doing an epic ninja pose on the front of it IIRC

Aces of the Deep?
There's also 688 Attack Sub but that's late 80s.

Let's see if you can help me figure this one out. It was the late 80's/early 90's, all I remember is that you start the game next to a plane crash. You had to "investigate" the scene to advance. The title of the game is based on the character's name but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I know it's vague but it's all I got!

Platform? Genre?

Sounds like Ninja Gaiden (Shadow Warriors in Europe).

Not thinking of a specific game in particular, but more of an art style/mechanic that may be common amongst several games.

I'm thinking of games where you beat a boss/clear an area/unlock an area/etc. where the environment was grey and/or lifeless and once you beat a boss/clear an area/unlock an area/etc., color creeps or sweeps back into the area, making it vibrant again.

Godus and Okami come to mind, are there any others that do this kind of art mechanic?

The timeshift stones from Skyward Sword come to mind.

I believe the Saboteur did something like that.

I've been looking for a game I played years and years ago. Can't seem to find it on google. Here's what I remember:

- Adventure game, possibly Point-and-Click. I believe it had pre-rendered backgrounds, though not sure.
- I believe it was grey-scale, or maybe just dark.
- Story was neo-noir. That much I remember.
- I believe you played as a female detective, but this part is fuzzy. Maybe just a female on a quest.

That's about all I have. At this point, I feel like I'm making this game up, as the only noir adventure games on google seem to be Gemini Rue and Grim Fandango.

Top down action puzzle game. Your Iike this green guy with a sword that you use to hit switches and enemies. The logo featured this ugly green ogre (I think the main character) and the name was something like DROD, DRROD or something. It was for the Mac.

Edit: I'm embarrassed I literally guessed the name on my first try.
Ahem well...

I've got the vaguest of memories of one, it's probably about 20 years old, on pc. Set in ancient Rome, think it was an rug, you could if you wanted to fight in the colosseum to make some extra cash for upgrades. Can't remember much else past that. Not even sure if it was 3D or isometric.
