Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

Can't we just wait to play the game in Dec? Leaks are great and yes, if this is true it's a negative. But, we are still a year away from release and I will wait to try it myself.
The one positive is that they have a year to listen to us. Let's all relax.
Because the little people can rally enough of us to make significant changes to a game
Edit: I think 343 just got off on the wrong foot with Halo and they just can't stop the crazy train

So you allow a brand new studio, just one opportunity to nail the integration of these two styles? I can understand people arguing for maintaining the series identity. That's fine. But these aren't antithetical design decisions. Game design is not binary enough to allow for such odds to exist.

If you want a game to pander to your nostalgia, then all you really need is MCC. It's here this year. It'll be as faithful as it can be to the original.

They can have a million tries. Can you tell me how you would actually do it? Once you add these features, by definition you're eradicating the older tradition. Because of what these features actually do in gameplay, it changes the ebb/flow no matter how you implement it. It becomes unHalo. And some people might like that unHalo package (although the Halo 4 community abandoning ship should tell you what you need to know), but it's not Halo.

And there's so few games like Halo left that this is the problem. People who like COD trash already have a billion options.

Also: This has nothing even tangentially to do with nostalgia.

Alright I am upset at that image. The the obvious reasons why:

1. ADS
2. Sprint

Halo for me has always and will always be about fast paced 4v4 combat in small maps. Midship FFA Midship 4v4 KOTH, Ball, Bomb, Lockout 1v1's Lockout FFAs Lockout 4v4 Oddball and KOTH. Et cetera. Watching MLG streams of competitive pros playing on weekends. Getting on and trying to rank up as high as I can go the rest of the week. The best part of Halo was there was always that distinct jump where you could go over to the BTB playlist and play 8v8 on huge maps with crazy unbalanced vehicles and social game and play with the dirty plebian uncleansed social zombie kids, if you maybe weren't playing that well or feeling competitive that day. I think during the split of Halo 2 and more perfectized Halo 3 split of Rank/Social they began to see maybe people weren't playing ranked as much. Of course with a ranking system that is going to happen you get your number high, you don't want to go into the next match until you've got your 3 other teammates ready to go and warmed up. This leads to a lot of social play. I think they saw this and even further bastardized the system in Halo Reach. Adding just one Arena playlist and having everything else social playlists. Of course the playlist management was atrocious for Arena and did not give the competitive players what they wanted for months and months only to be partially fixed later on. This led to a quick death of the Arena. So in Halo 4 guess what, game didnt even have a ranking system. Everything was social, the game copied so much from Call of Duty it basically was CoD in space. Well we all know what happened to the population charts in Halo 4. Dead game is dead.

When you add Sprint and more movement options available the maps have to start to accommodate that movement type. It leads to larger maps and longer corridors larger rooms and larger gaps between cover. This means if you ever are to take the Sprint out the maps no longer really "work" with the traditional movement. The addition of Sprint also sometimes means a hit to the default movement speed as well which means a slower game and Sprint usually kills strafing an ability that some of the best pros worked to really master a way to move out of shots ways while still understanding how to remain on the enemy player in terms of shots. This casualizes the game. It also makes it closer to CoD or other games that are already doing their type of FPS incredibly well. So its no surprise when games like Reach and Halo 4 statistically don't do so well when they try and be the new CoD.

Halo fans have and will always know what they want and that is Halo, They want their gun to be up and ready the entire game ready to enjoy their next 10 second loop of gun battle they want that precise moment when they know the player that showed up on their screen had the same weapon the same armor the same abilities and the thing that stood between his life and his death was how well THEY handled their controller. Their thoughts and their skill alone created victory and the rush of endorphins hits the brain and all is well. That is the moment a Halo player fiends for, craves. This is why MCC is such a wet dream to the Halo player, were going to be once again playing these games from the past that hit the formula just right or close enough that their games flaws can be overlooked. Surely you can point to a 101 errors, glitches, bugs in any Halo. However the fans loved the rush, the arena combat, saying I AM BETTER THAN YOU only by action, well sometimes with words, and so they overlooked these blemishes to the point Halo is a perfect game for some of these players.

We don't want AIM DOWN SCOPE, WE DONT WANT SPRINT, We do want social playlists but we dont want it at the cost of our ranking system! LET THEM KNOW!

Give us our Halo back akin to CE, 2, and 3. We do not want what you are feeding us lately. I urge all of you to play MCC, and if Halo 5 does add all this garbage please go back to MCC do not even touch 5 at all. Sell it back to the game store, mail it back to 343i with a No thanks letter attached, speak with actions, do not give in to an industry giant and the movement of which its going.

Anyways, I guess I got carried away. I feel strongly for these games. If anyone read that thanks!

There's none. ADS doesn't makes firing from the hip useless.

Except it absolutely does.

A scope obstificates your view so that there is reason not to use it, you lose your peripheral vision.

With aim down sites, there is literally no downside, hence no reason to ever use hip fire.

Yep I'm now certain that ADS is BS, or at least now how everyone thinks it is. I see NO WAY how other weapons like AR could have ADS.

HkF69K0.png

So seems ADS is just a stylised way of zooming in with a scoped weapon. Fine by me...

Well, those are the pre-halo 5 models. When was the last time the BR also had a sigh rail fixed red dot?

These things are able to be changed.

It is the new BR that was shown. Once Again. That's the gun we saw. We are acting as if all guns have ADS now

http://i.imgur.com/75NBf9F.png

Thats why I put IF in my post. Halo 5 may not be ADS for all weapons, we've only seen 6 seconds.

My comment is in regards to those saying ADS would make Halo modernized. I'm worried by what I've seen here and commenting on it but I wont for sure judge the game until I see full gameplay and 343s vision.

Is ADS supposed to be an advantage or something? He first shots from the hip with the target like normal Halo then looks in the sight. Looks like a gameplay option. If you don't want to use it don't.

Well, I've read some very well thought out responses to this (Amirox, ty) and some not so good (you know who you are) and I get that people like Halo the way it was but meh, this over reaction of hyperbolic rage is sad. I'm putting it down to NeoGAF being NeoGAF, internet being internet.

ADS doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm still pumped as long as it plays well. Bring it!

And yet another shooter with ADS. Guess 343i would rather follow the herd even more rather than trying to keep Halo different from the rest of the AAA shooters.

How many people think 343 will change this based on community feedback? Do they have a history of listening to fans and making changes?

ADS IN A HALO GAME?

tumblr_n1izshkIXr1sf1w4yo2_500.gif

No seriously, that's fucked up.

HAHAHAHA I MADE THAT TABLE.

That's the only thing in this thread that makes me happy because WHAT THE FUCK.

ADS doesn't even make FICTIONAL sense. THEY HAVE HELMETS WITH HUDS WITH AIMING ASSIST WHY WOULD THEY EVEN DO THIS?

At least we have Halo 1 2 and 3 on XBone so they can watch Halo 5 FUCKING BURN AND WASH ASUNDER.

Do you really think Beta releases these days are actually places where this kind it feedback will be taken on board and such a fundamental design decision rolled back?

Yes*. As I previously stated, MS cannot afford to screw up H5. The XB1 is lagging far behind the PS4 and in less than a year since launch, MS has dropped the price from $499 to $399 and now to $349 (which I believe will be permanent) just to compete with Sony. MS has given away free games and dropped Kinect. They're doing everything they can to get people to buy the system (and by all accounts, it's not working as well as they hoped). Halo is, by far, their biggest IP and a true system seller. They can not afford to drop the ball on it by alienating that decade long community. If they do, the XB1 will be effectively over. Make your voice heard the right way (which means communicating how altering the style of Halo makes you less inclined to purchase it) and you will see changes.

*As a Gears of War 3 beta tester, I saw an Epic designer openly admit that one of the finalized maps was completely broken based on beta feedback.

Look at the recent tweet. It's pretty much confirmed. If it was JUST for that she would have said so. Expect ADS and Sprinting.

The recent tweet says play the beta and give feedback

The reason they are doing a beta this far in advance is so they can actually react to the feedback unlike say Destiny

if the beta was 3-6 months before release, they wouldn't change anything.

but a year before release there's a chance either mechanic could see tweaks or the cutting board entirely, although it's up to them how strongly they commit to the feedback.

Image is straight from the H5 beta trailer in August. My theory is that they're just trying to make the BR more of a closer to medium ranged weapon, and dmr medium to long. That's why the DMR has a traditional scope, whilst BR's scope is getting this thinner design.

ADS is hard baked in to the core of the entire game, everything will be balanced around it.

Changing a map is not comparable.

Come on buddy don't be like that. I was pointing out how silly it was that certain Halo fans think they are somehow more qualified to have opinions than others. It's ridiculous and shows a distinct lack of understanding. You don't have to agree with them but don't go out of your way to tell them that their opinions are invalid.

I'm out of this thread. People are being condescending, entitled, patronizing, disdainful and downright belligerent. I'm ashamed of NeoGAF today.

I just think that some Halo fans have considered their position with a little more depth and context than others have. I do believe I'm more qualified to have a certain opinion than someone else if my opinion is based in an understanding about what makes something work the way it does, and an understanding for what constitutes a wrench thrown in that mechanism. If I say 'ADS could result in a pop-and-stop game that removes Halo from its arena-shooting roots and prevents nuanced, tense strafe battles featuring smart use of level geometry for cover and smart grenade placement for zoning, by enabling players a quick, one-directional escape from danger, and by offering up an aiming system that promotes standing still and shuffling sideways slowly", or allude to that given it's been explained all over the place and I figured I didn't need to with my posts considering, I'd say that has more merit than something that isn't reasoned as well like 'it's an evolution' with no elaboration for how ADS evolves anything but Halo's visibility to the Call of Duty crowd.

Alright I am upset at that image. The the obvious reasons why:

This is how I feel.

I really still do believe in 343i because there's no way they could have been blind to Halo 4's reception and longevity among fans, so here's to hoping ADS is cosmetic and Sprint at least isn't too detrimental to the gunplay and flow

Asked around, things can change but, assault rifle got dat ADS too, "pretty much" all the weapons. They're going for that e-sports scene very hard.

Welp.

Oh lord in heaven NO

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

its 343i, what were you expecting.

The Halo style of play is no ;longer popular, people want constant rewards and numbers popping off everywhere
I'm reserving judgement, cause all we saw was a gif, and it could be cosmetic, but I just want to address the bolded;

How did you ever arrive at this conclusion? Just because something isn't made for nearly a decade, after it's last success, does not mean it's "no longer popular". If the last game with the same exact playstyle bombed horribly, then yea, it's no longer popular is a legitimate conclusion.

The same thing can be said about so many games today. Take The Evil Within which "reviewers" called the gameplay "old school." Give me a fucking break. Or Alien Isolation where some are complaining about the lenth of the game and no save anywhere option.

It's almost as if past (superior) gameplay mechanics didn't exist. It has to be the new generation of gamers causing this?

I said the exact same thing on my podcast last week about both games. My cohost and I did a postmortem as we each just completed one, and it's interesting to think how much I've changed as a gamer because of the games today.

When Halo 4 was first announced, I was happy. I thought it would be a sequel to Halo 3 gameplay wise. I kept saying to myself "There is no way they could make it worse than Reach." Then it released and to my amazement, they actually managed to do just that. The population drops like a rock within a few weeks.

Fast forward to last E3. Halo MCC officially announced and they showed a H5 Beta teaser. After watching that, I knew there would be no hope in it being good. At least I had the first three games to play for the rest of the Gen.

343i says they listened and they made mistakes with Halo 4. I didn't believe them, but after watching that Halo 2 documentary, they managed to make me feel optimistic for Halo 5. It seemed like they actually learned and were going back to the basics with fair and equal starts, no AA's, perks, etc. MCC seemed sort of like a "reboot" for the Halo community so they could return to that style of gameplay sans Halo 4.

Now this is released and it proves that they learned absolutely nothing. Not only does Sprint make a return, ADS is also making an appearance. Now whether or not it is only on a few weapons and acts exactly as how ADS typically is, or if it is the new zoom/scope, it is horrible because it will slow down gameplay even more and you can continue scoping/aiming while being shot at.

Just how much more incompetent could a dev be?
