Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

You guys just don't understand 343 has masterfully created an Total Conversation mod and using xbone instead of steamworks

Halo died with the end of Halo: CE

Huge Halo fan and this doesn't bother me at all.

Therefore 343i is doing great justice to their fanbase.. because I speak for all.. just like all of you guys do right?

It must be hard for 343 (and any other any game developer, really) to spend so much time, love, and effort on a project only to find out that their audience is in diapers.

maybe if they did the game wouldn't have bombed on consoles

Give me ADS, but don't penalize hip fire, there is a time and place for booth
But please for the love of god let this game be modern finally.

I do wish they would speak on it, if ADS is in the game, I will go out and buy MCC tuesday just to play the beta, if its simply that silly click in stuff....then I will just keep playing Destiny/COD/Battlefield

There is a time and place for both when it came to Halo games. It was called zoom, and it was perfect for the game Halo was.

ADS is not necessary.

All this seems to be is an aesthetic change (switching is instant just like the old scopes) and fans seem to be overreacting and wanting everything to be exactly the same

I sort of can't believe this thread has gone on this long - not because I think the changes are good and people should just take them, but because I'm surprised anyone thought 343 was going to deliver a good Halo game. People can complain about Halo 4 all they want and point out how the number of users plummeted quickly, but the game sold a lot of copies. I'd be more surprised if they WERE willing to change direction from Halo 4. It sucks, but that CoD money is just too tempting.

For consoles/console gamers, yes. This game was beyond atrocious (worse than Halo 4) on consoles btw.

obviously it shines on PC but if you know how to aim the game is still better than the large majority of console shooters.

That's the inherent problem, people are just so attached to their stupid ADS auto-aim they don't want to teach themselves how to aim in a real 1v1 encounter any more.

how does ADS equate to being modern, because it's in everything? Halo's gameplay is still fresh and fun because it doesn't rely on crutches like ADS, favoring movement and zoning tactics alongside constant situational awareness enabled by the focus on hip fire instead.Volumes have been stated already in this thread about the effect ADS has on moment to moment gameplay in a shooter. There isn't a time and place for both when one has the potential to fundamentally change encounter design in a homogenized and decidedly un-Halo fashion.

If you don't like how Halo plays then I guess ADS works out for you but not for those of us who have enjoyed it for years and don't have much like this to play anymore.

Dont mind ADS. Looks awesome. Unsure about sprint. At the end of the day though I dont think either are a big deal. Halo needs to evolve. (harharhar) and it has struggled to stay relevant.

idk why people hate sprint in Halo? it sped up the game. as a longtime Halo multiplayer fan i like the addition of sprint. also those H5 graphics loo nice, even if the video was recorded on a potato

Asked around, things can change but, assault rifle got dat ADS too, "pretty much" all the weapons. They're going for that e-sports scene very hard.

Welp.

I don't think ADS would work without sprint. I don't think ADS works in Halo period, though.

So, where are the jetpacks? Can't make a modern shooter without jetpacks. :p

I kid... if I was passionate about Halo I would be seriously disappointed

Do we know if there are load outs? That was the real game ruiner.

To everyone defending ads and sprint, I just want to know how long you stuck with playing halo 4. It sounds like you liked it and played it for a lot longer then those who don't like halo with those features. If you didn't, what made you stop playing?

They clearly focus tested these changes. COD is winning. Can't beat um then join um.

They want the COD install bAse to feel at home.

I don't even particularly like Halo, but I find this pretty a pretty insulting move by 343i towards the fan base. They're basically saying that they would 'rather' have the CoD massive playing their game than the people who play Halo because it's Halo.

'But what if it's still good???' kind of misses the point of why people are upset; the point is the blatant disregard for the fans of the series.

They can have their COD fanbase if that's what they are aiming at.

COD itself is even dwindling in popularity. A return to classic Halo would have been the way to go. Returning and further emphasizing that which killed their first attempt at a mainline Halo game is beyond insanity.

Stop over reacting before we know what it actually is.
I agree people are overreacting a little bit but that ADS was everything but instant. The only moment you can say that it's instant is when zooming in, when zooming out it takes a while to go back to its original position.

If it's a game ruiner, it's in. That is 343's motto.

it gives the illusion of speeding up the game.

-sprint lowers the base movement and strafe speed
-sprint elongates maps
-sprint delays engagements because you can escape them
-sprint increases motion tracker range

it may literally speed up the player, but only relative to all the other changes that nearly cancel each other out.

again, a short 2 second charge to gain distance or tie into a stronger melee would benefit halo. the sprint mechanic, whether it's limited or unlimited, didn't work for 2 games and it's not going to work this time either.

to be fair it is unobtrusive and I assume you can continue to shoot during that animation transition by relying on the reticle

You only have to worry about such a thing when you completely misunderstand your audience and what you've inherited.
Everyone seems to assume 343 doesn't understand them. Maybe they do, and just don't care? After seeing this outrage, I'd have a real hard time caring either. Or maybe this "inheritance" is theirs to do with what they want, and they'll let the final product speak for them.

Also no offense to Shinobi, but dude, your starting fires. Let them start by themselves tomorrow at the reveal, if its going to be the case.

And they're going to get even less sales by trying to make Halo something it's not. You don't improve a game by changing the core gameplay that made it good in the first place. You improve it by looking at what the more the fans want.

They're looking to sell more copies, nothing more. I won't argue if having/not having sprint and ADS specifically are a good thing or not, but they needed to overhaul aspects of the game for today's market.

Well I can't read 38 pages of comments but I have to say, I hate leaks like these ones. So many opinions will change from this without an actual view and release to go with it. People will skip wanting to try it and just be annoyed.

I'm glad the Halo 5 beta will be with every MCC and probably become available to everyone soon after its start. Maybe the 3rd week.

Another thing I want to add, is that its the Battle Rifle shown in the clip isn't it, which has always had a scope...so maybe the rifles scope is just replaced and become A.D.S style, rather than added to every gun. This kind of assumption is exactly what leaks do and why I dislike them.

I just think it's hilarious that people are freaking out over a less than ten second clip of gameplay. You don't really know what it's going to be like yet.
