Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

Some of the reactions are just mind boggling without actually playing the game. Do you guys generally react without trying out something for yourselves?

The videos are also blurry as crap, not sure what can be judged so far. Looking forward to some real impressions and reveal.

If it's crap like Halo 4 then by all means, give 343 the biggest bash ever. But we don't know just yet.

I spent a while reading through this thread, and all I can say is that hardcore Halo fans are a passionate group.

Changes don't matter much to me, but if they can retain what makes Halo unique I'd say that's the way to go.

I'd say the majority of the time that people are outraged about something (movie, book, TV show, etc) it's because they didn't just investigate the media themselves and jump to conclusions (i.e. this thread).

Like what?
I'm sure 343i have plenty of terrible ideas up their sleeves, but basically unless they make good on a promise of even starts and no unlocks that affects gameplay, it'll be the same pack-chasing, metagaming mess Halo 4 was.

Sprint is a big problem, though, don't get me wrong (bigger than cosmetic ADS, since it affects map design).

Halo fans are reacting to see some of the design decisions they hated in Reach and Halo 4 -- games they played extensively -- repeated here.

This is the exact issue that people had with Halo 4. 343i added a bunch of shit and the game suffered for it.

Looks fine. Sprint is a lost battle. ADS seems kind of cosmetic here. It will have worse and more fundamental problems than these things, have no fear.

Josh Holmes confirmed it's purely cosmetic and players don't get punished by using hipfire. I still want to know why it was included, though. I believe it's purpose is just to attract people who are familiar with ADS FPS games...

We've been through a lot.

I'm okay with this, I guess. It still doesn't make sense fictionally.

If 100% true, it'll be pretty hilarious when Halo vets are tearing up everything with hip fire while other dudes are trying to get their ironsights out.

Get this shit outa here, Halo is all about grenade bouncing not insta kill frags to the face.
Yeah the whole point of Halo frags (at least in 1-3) is to use the environment to time the explosion.

Everyone should still be pissed in my opinion. If you played hundreds of hours of Halo 2&3 MP, a 5 second clip is enough to show you that's gonna change the core Halo gameplay.

I hope I'm wrong. I'll be watching tomorrow night for sure.

I don't see a problem with this. Halo with cosmetic ADS + sprinting - abilities is basically what I wanted for Halo 4. Ditch the kill streak rewards and you have the beginnings of a very awesome game.

You know the answer to that question, you are not new here.

Eh, I really loved Halo 4. I play Halo games for their campaigns, though.

I can't wait to see the proper unveiling.

Don't bother. Everyone is too busy riding their high horse and calling anyone with a complaint crazy.

Iam no halo purist So I actually welcome sprint and stuff,

You cant tell from these vids but I have a feeling the lighting is going to be really good.

They have already confirmed the multiplayer to be 1080p 60fps, I wonder if they will go 1080p 30fps for the campaign ala killzone:sf. Personally I would prefer If they went 900p if it meant more next gen graphics and higher poly count like ryse did.

Seems like abilities are back. They're just remarketing them and making them available by default.

The worst part of Armor Abilities is that they made each encounter random; you couldn't plan for the whole range of possible reactions. Once you take that away, you're left with an entirely different animal. It's not just a remarketing.

I think this is looking good. I was a big Halo fan but have been MIA for quite a while. I am ok with some gameplay changes.

Its a sticky situation for 343i. How do you please the hardcore fans and appeal to new players at once? It seems like releasing MCC just before H5 is a good gameplan. You get good oldschool Halo for the new console to please the fans then release a new one thats "modernized" to appeal to a wider audience.

It looks like they are at least trying to keep the fans happy without alienating the newer generation of players.

Would they lose more sales with making some changes or keeping it the same? I dunno.

CSGO did something similar with their scoped weapons. They went from just a big zoom to an optical scope. Of course people complained about the changes and made the CoD comparisons but it was only a visual thing and everyone got over it fairly quickly.
Let's hope this situation ends in a similar fashion.

Oh, so is it only on select weapons?
No idea. Let's wait until tomorrow to find out. But my guess is that it's just like it has always been: weapons that had zoom, still have it; the others don't. The only difference: it looks different.
Although someone somewhere said that the AR had it too... But, again: let's just wait...
How can you people call something dead without even playing the game yet. All you guys are doing is making some pre-determined opinion. Give the game a chance first, 343 isn't stupid.
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic and playing on the whole "is Halo still relevant?" idea...

You have 343 in your name, the fuck you know about rationality
I hope this is sarcasm, too.

Again this ADS we saw on the clip is mechanically the exact same we have in previous halos, just looks different. I saw no movement slowdown, and the scope in looked instantaneous. Its the same.
Exactly. People need to understand this.

Made to look like COD, its still ADS.
Alright, sure, it is aiming down the sights, yes. Cosmetically. And that's where the similarities to CoD end. The player does not get slowed down. Shooting from the hip is just as accurate as "aiming down the sights"/zooming.

To put it in a nutshell: Halo 5 still has the same old zooming mechanic - it just looks different.

Personally, I think it's a smart move. Every shooter has ADS now, so people expect it. And it might even be more immersive, I guess. Unlike other shooters, however, Halo doesn't slow movement to a crawl with it.

On a related note: I'm really intrigued by the new movement options. It seems only natural that Halo's Spartans should be able to do this. And Titanfall really made me appreciate increased mobility.

I guess sprinting could be ditched but ADS is not so bad. But I agree, no killstreak just an arena style shooter with fair gameplay (if the ADS is how they described it). No custom loadouts, nothing like that.

I completely agree that one should play something before completely judging its quality, but let's be reasonable here, gameplay footage is a good indicator of the feature set of a particular game.

Gameplay footage of a Halo 5 character sprinting is good evidence of there being sprinting in Halo 5. Gameplay footage of a Halo 5 character aiming down the sights of a gun is good evidence of there being ADS in Halo 5. If someone has a particular aversion to sprinting or ADS, (as many people in this thread have explained their grievances) then this information is obviously going to be a hit against the game.

I think the only way it might work is if they make hip-fire viable as in Destiny. Otherwise...eh..

What made more more sad is that, while MC is still playable, Locke really is the primary character. Goddamnit.

Oh boy!

I sure can't wait to play as some fucking twat whose character and backstory has been already handled in some book/film outside of the main game series!

If there's anything I love, it's being able to experience a story that relies on different entries in different fucking mediums to figure out what kind of person the MAIN FUCKING CHARACTER is.

But no doubt some douche-bag suits at MS are high-fiving each other over their product synergy or some nonsense.

I cannot stand shit like this.

Don't bother. Everyone is too busy riding their high horse and calling anyone with a complaint crazy.

It has nothing to do with high horse and more on baseless assumptions that I guess you yourself are making. I have played hundreds of hours of Halo 2&3 too and I'm not acting like a child based off of a blurry snippet. Beta comes out, complain away. But there is no context and you choose to just react anyways.

Did I say anything about ADS? No.

"these are spartans they should have the ability to sprint"

that's a canonical reason for sprint, whereby not being able to sprint "wouldn't make sense" to you.

same reason ADS - even visually - doesn't make sense from a canon standpoint.

the contradiction (in general) is what bothers me. spartans should always move fast. it's the sustainable jog speed that makes them a spartan, not a short burst of speed.

So, was there not obvious sprinting in that footage? Am I blind? It seems people are really eager to pull the "This is NeoGAF" card just to feel as if they are somehow higher than everyone else on this forum.

Remember when 343 changed the scoring in Deathmatch to some arbitrary "first to 800 points, marine" style COD system?

Tomorrow has the potentially to be absolute jokes.

People are making these assumptions based of Halo 4 dude, Halo 4 had everything we've seen in these clips and was worse because of it. People remember Halo 4 and 343 still have a lot to prove.

For those of you missed it, Frank O'connor said this about sprint in HaloGAF OT:

"Kinect, use teabag to crouch grab weapon."

Be interesting to see reactions to how some of this plays tomorrow.

Especially why sprint isn't a get out of jail free card anymore.
