Assassin's Creed Unity - PC Performance thread

The game runs surprisingly OK (20-30fps) with my 3GB 7870HD (which is below the minimum requirements) and an i5-3550, with everything on max (apart from shadows at high) as long as I don't turn on any antialiasing. The CPU usage is only around 40-60% (Though I've not been in Paris proper with huge crowds). Also, all options seems to have only moderate impact on performance - the difference between everything on low and everything on high is 10fps or so.

(This is on version 1.1 of the game and I haven't tried the new AMD drivers yet, since I consider just getting a 970 today anyway)

Ive only played the intro in the castle segment, but i bumped it up to ultra settings, but turned off MSAA. Used DSR to go up to 1440p, and got 45-50 fps with a 970 4gb and an i7 4770k @ stock

FX-8350 and OC 970 here. Getting around 45 FPS in Paris with all the bells and whistles turned on. I locked to 30 with Riva tuner and it never drops and the pacing is perfect in borderless window mode.

This game would look great if it weren't for the god-awful temporal aliasing. Not even TXAA seems to be able to touch. The gold fixtures in houses are shimmering messes. Does anybody have a fix?
Can you use triple buffering through D3DOverrider?

Since Ubi partners with Nvidia, it's Hairworks

Hairworks is not implemented in this game. It'll be used in Far Cry 4 though.

I do not think D3DOverrider can affect 64-bit applications.

Game can run as low as 35 fps with a 4790k and a 780ti, with everything on max except AA set on FXAA, it's not great...

Is it possible to cap the game at 30 fps in a smooth way ? ( I tried with Dxtory but it's very juddery)

Try NVIDIA Inspector or MSI Afterburner with Riva Tuner Statistics Server installed. It may be necessary to cap at 31 fps to get good results. These things really vary from title to title.

Another alternative if you have a 60Hz monitor is to select Vsync half-refresh in the NVIDIA 3D control panel settings for the game, but I'd recommend a cap together with this method.

The ultra high textures may be a problem on the 780Ti as they require 4GB VRAM. Try lowering them to High.

Anyone with a really low end PC tried this yet? Wondering it's its even worth trying with a old Q6600, 4GB ram and 750ti...my poor old rig.

I should forget about getting this on a PC with i3 4130 and GTX 750 ti, right? No, scratch that, forget about getting it in general. ;)

On the topic of OC'ing CPU's, if I wanted to OC my 2500k, is there a guide someone can link me to with a surefire way of doing it?

Go to nvidia control panel, select ACUnity, set vsync to adaptive (half refresh rate). It will limit the game to 30fps. That's what I did with FFXIII.

There is no Physx.

Unfortunately, along with the classic "my brand new PC can't run this at max, crap port!!".

Same old same old, if only people realized what settings they're running there would be a lot less disappointments.

Well said, both of you. I think some people simply have unrealistic expectations. Maybe they are new to PC gaming and they think their mid-range PC should run every game completely maxed out with silky smooth 60fps.

People need to be realistic. I can virtually guarantee we will see similar requirements for games like The Witcher 3 and any other demanding upcoming games.

graphics are very good. materials/shading and lighting in general are among the best ive seen in an actual game. im a huge fan of TXAA but in this game it seems completely broken. theres more aliasing and temporal instability than with fxaa. huge disappointment in that regard

What is it with Ubisoft games and shitty performance? Seriously, it's becoming a trend.

AC IV gave my GTX 780 all it could handle despite looking good but not necessarily great, and I recall having performance issues with Far Cry 3 as well.

Perhaps they're purposely shipping games with crappy frame rates in order to give us that "cinematic" feel they've been going on about here recently?

I predict Far Cry 4 will be the next Ubishaft game to run like ass.

The method that gives me the best results is using the "half refresh rate" vsync option in Nvidia Inspector with the vsync option set to "standard". Don't use the regular Nvidia control panel because it only offers adaptive vsync for the "half refresh rate" mode, and this will result in tearing if you ever drop below 30fps.

I agree regarding material quality, really impressive stuff. I can't think of a better looking open world game right now.

Totally agree on all points. The game looks amazing, especially in terms of the lighting, shading and materials....that physically based rendering can work wonders if implemented properly, as it is here. Hopefully the TXAA will be fixed with an update. It's strange because even 2x TXAA looked exceptionally good in AC4 when combined with a little downsampling.

These are dark times.

Has it unlocked for US yet? Can I vpn (or start learning how)?

Yea in all the previous titles ive personally played, even 2x TXAA provides better iq than downsampling from 4k(i value temporal stability more than super sharpness.). The cgi look also goes amazingly well with pbr games(see ryse for example.). Goes along way in creating a more natural, lifelike appearance.

Anyone running similar to the following getting good results? Concerned about the GPU, but I have just played Black Flag on this system and was very happy with it.

5820k @ 4.3Ghz
16GB DDR4 @ 2.4Ghz
750 Ti SC
Kingston HyperX SSD

Well, reading this thread, I see the performance isn't particularly great. I am wondering about settings though. What is the LoD like in the game? Are you able to eliminate the terrible pop in?

There was another guy earlier in the thread getting 30 fps with the 750Ti at 1080p. Search for it, you should be good to go.

Yo everyone, thinking about buying it for PC. Will it run okaish at 1080p (30fps)?:

- 8GB Ram
- GTX770
- Haswell i5 (not overclocked)

:) I don't have the time now to research everything, so I would love to have some answer in the next hours. :)

Nvidia itself suggests Ambient Occlusion to OFF, textures to LOW and FXAA. This for 1080p and a target of 40 fps.

Compared to Black Flag, which was shit anyway, but it suggested HBAO+, textures to high and environment to very high instead of just high. So we're looking at "runs substantially worse than last year AC".

It's pretty ugly.
