Assassin’s Creed: Unity Framerate Is “Atrocious”

So, why do you guys suddenly care so much? Last of Us had an atrocious framerate as well and it was called out as GOG bei gamers AND journalists. What's the breaking point here? Sub 20FPS?
TLOU had framerate problems. Framerate is but one of Unity's glaring issues.

Those tweets make it sound like someone or only a few sites received exclusive review copies and no one else received pre release copies...

What really sucks is, I was loving the story so far. The game looks great, and I'm really interested in the time setting/story. Obviously I have not played the full game, so I have no idea if the story portion is good. But it's really hard to play this when it has such low dips. It's really bad. =/ Basically, I really wanted to love this. I was looking forward to it. Hell, it was one of the things I was going to celebrate me beating my cancer with (just went into remission this week and was going to spend all week playing new games). I'm sad.

Framerate has never been a "30/60 or bust" thing for console consumers. There are those of us with elevated standards, sure, but I'm not going to pretend to be surprised that a game that runs at 25 fps (or has draw-in) is successful, or pretend that this is some new level of consumer complacency.

I don't think it's some new level of consumer complacency, of course not. I've been in this industry too long to think that.

But I do think that at some point in this industry, we have to stand up and say "no, this really isn't acceptable."

I mean it's like I said in the other topic to those who were getting mad at the people complaining. Even if someone personally doesn't care enough about framerate for it to be a deciding issue for them, they still benefit from a hard push to get devs/pubs to lock in good framerates. Rising tide lifts all boats, etc etc

I haven't even tried co-op yet, but I can only imagine the hit the framerate takes when you've got three other people with you...

Please journalists. Do your job. Call this game out for its miserable performance and mark it down.

For once, don't let me down journalists!

The fact that Destiny was marked down for having a shitty story and repetitive gameplay does give me some hope.

Good. If this game runs poorly, I hope the press drag Ubi over hot coals for it. I'd like to see be the Dragon Age 2 or Battlefield 4 of the series, leading Ubi to rethink their business strategy.

The Souls series has a horrible framerate, yet it is not held to the fire like this. From what I have seen, there is nothing that approaches Blight Town levels of bad. So as long as it does not constantly perform worse than that, then I will be fine.

That's true; Blighttown's framerate is so bad I stopped playing there twice. Although, in its defence that's the only place in the game where it really goes to shit. But on the other hand, it was never a game that was sold on its technical merits, whereas Ubi have been hyping up the huge crowds in Unity and have openly stated it pushes the consoles to their limit (even though we objectively know that's horseshit).

We should want better, though.

I have not seen anything that turns my stomach in the hours of footage I have watched. I expect technical hiccups in large open world games and on the whole it just looks like a game I really want to play. Not going to deny myself that over some frame dips. *shrugs* If that makes me 'part of the problem', then so be it.

I cant wait to hear from Jim fucking Sterling son. The review thread and fallout from this game are looking to be pretty entertaining. Probably more entertaining than the game itself.

This so much! I'm not really interested in the Assassin's Creed series anymore, but at the moment it looks like were in for a really entertaining fallout.

:(

Goddammit Ubi. You finally make the perfect game on paper and then go fuck it up.

'Real gamers' have always had standards. If you think you enjoy a game with a lower framerate you should be ashamed because you are literally a cancer on the industry.

What stake do you have in all this, oh and btw, fake trollng and sarcastic messages do not add to the conversation.

Yes, it's sub 20, and also because of other thing like pop-in, texture, NPC, .....

Oh fk off

Well.... I guess I will continue to still never have played an AC game... just hoping FC4 doesn't shit the bed like this apparently has. Dunia Engine 2, please deliver, for old time's sake.

No. If they know why, then they will fix it. AC is a cash cow.

i wasnt talking about AC . He said " dont buy it, and they will fix it" but thats not true. If this AC would only sell 1 million copies dont expect them to continue developing their 2015,2016 and so on Assassins creeds.

If the day comes and AC wont make enough money dont expect another AC!

You are though, and that's fine. Just don't go defending this crap like some.

The fact that today is release day, and reviews are still under embargo, tells you everything you need to know about this game.

I bet performance wise, it's going to get ripped....

Sounds like it needed some more time in the oven.

The pitfalls of being a big yearly fall release, can't delay until it's good, you've got to push it out on time.

Yet EA is voted the worst company every year.

Sequel 16 for a mediocre franchise that never runs well at release.

And Far Cry 4 will come out next week and repeat the process.

Add pc gamers having to deal with uplay.

Great company, glad gamers continually buy $60 games weeks before they even release.

brb gonna go buy a car that "takes full advantage of the road" without actually driving it.

I'm not sure why some folks do not understand the difference between our expectations for last Gen consoles near the end of their life are different for the PS4 and Xbox One.

It's also a false framing of the argument.

There is actually no argument to be made against the simple fact: if gamers buy a horribly performing game en masse, they are contributing to devs/pubs thinking that's OK. I mean that is literally a direct cause-and-effect, a line we can follow exactly.

Just because that makes some people uncomfortable to point out doesn't mean it shouldn't be pointed out. Doesn't mean they're a cancer or that they should even give a fuck. But it does mean their votes with their wallet matter. And it's hurting the way games are released.

wrong. If it doesnt make money there wont be another game! simple as that.

Why would they spend another 100 million dollars into a game that didnt make enough money ?
Ha. Spend enough money on marketing a familiar and popular series and it will sell just fine. Game consumers' money is easily won. They're in no danger of having a dud on their hands, no matter what reviews end up saying. The series already had a major disaster in the form of AC3. Abysmal performance, awful writing, terrible design flaws, etc. That sold great. And people keep buying more.

And as others have already said, like the Marvel movies, Ubisoft has AC games already in active development to cover the next 3-5 years, with more probably already in the early stages of pre-production.

last of us wasn't sub 30 fps all the time. if it did, it was mostly in nongameplay sequemces and just walking through scenery.

Jeebus Crikes - seems like this is turning into an absolute train wreck for Ubisoft. I don't mean to pile on but this theme of deceptive embargoes/NDAs seems like a huge violation of consumer trust.

Edit:
Fucking bullshit, I hope everyone at ubisoft dies.

Leave now and never come back. Way out of line.

I just don't get why they didn't just cut down on the crowd sizes if that seems to be what they claim is the big resource hog. No one gives a shit that there are 5,000 people on screen if the framerate is shit.

What stake? I'm defending my view against what basically amount to an attack on my integrity as a person (that enjoying games with certain framerates is damaging the industry for everyone). Is that not enough of a stake?

And yeah the sarcasm doesn't add much, apologies.

These tweets have gotten my attention. Will follow those reviews closely.

Lemme see who has the balls to call out Ubi on this mess and who glosses over this shit. That will make a nice barometer to tell the ones who are full of shit from the ones who aren't.

The game feels so slow. I can't even loot chests without getting a server error message

that's because a billion people purchased the new AC game. Thus, Ubisoft's plan in stark relief: Review embargo at 12pm (EST) on day of release, so consumers can't know any better!

The sad part is, the next game is coming next fall, whether we want it to or not. This franchise, which has had an incredible high points, is going to be milked and killed rather than taking a beat to figure out what's next. The next two, maybe even three games are already deep into production, I'm sure, using the same engine that very well could be running badly then, too. It's a shame.
