3DS Homebrew Channel imminent (?)

Well there goes me buying 3ds games, im not buying shit someone is getting for free, time to buy a ps4 or some other "unpirated" console I guess

Wow, what? Whaaaaaat? How does this even make a lick of sense? You're not going to support devs because you are mad other people aren't?

What was that bit about the 3DS encryption key being broken? A quick search doesn't turn up anything useful.
Me neither. The most I've seen is that they found out how to decrypt 3DS ROMs, which isn't really that awesome...
Precisely. I posted earlier what @smealum said about it:
@smealum said:
fyi, the 7.0 ncch keyX "leak" is not all it's made out to be. all it means is anyone can now decrypt recent games like SSB. nothing exciting
...
figured I'd clarify because for some reason some people think it's going to "blow open" the 3DS. that's not how it works.
It is still handy for datamining games though (like Confirming Tharja's deletion from SSB 3DS).

According to that post, it's modifying a save file rather than using a different kind of file. It might not be DOA if that's accurate.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
So, will we be able to use cheats when this comes out? I had so much fun using action replay on DS pokemon

If someone creates a hook for it and it's possible to use said hook in a game that isn't "the Homebrew channel." Possibly.

So... this thread had escaped my attention.

1) How do we do this?
2) What does it allow (emulators?)

1) Check my link for some details, but more details will be available when the exploit is released this upcoming Saturday.

2) Any 3DS homebrew that doesn't allow playing backups/piracy. Not much is out there yet, but expect the scene to blow up after this release.

Thanks, so looks like we'll need a particular game to make the exploit work, i.e. the Twilight Princess trick?

Aw yes! Just in time for when I get my New Nintendo 3DS.

Really glad that gameyob works. Superb game boy emulator with supergameboy colour and border support. Will be amazing to play through Donkey Kong on my 3DS with those features !!

It also supports the GBC bios, which means you get the correct boot up screen for games and even the switchable colour palletes for monochrome games.

Seeing as I've already ripped my extensive game boy collection (using a transfer pak and everdrive 64), I never, ever need to touch Nintendo's gameboy VC again!

Apart from the two oracle games, I don't own those - but I do on the VC.

I wonder if the homebrew scene will explode like on Wii.
If I ever do it, it'll be for finally playing Dragon Quest 7 Remake. I'm a Dragon Quest fan and we didn't get a new game/remake localized in like 3 years :(

Uhh... Will this enable piracy?
What's been said is that this Homebrew channel installation won't enable you to play ripped games iirc, but that could just mean that it isn't built in, and will rely on another homebrew app. I can't see how it wouldn't happen though :/

All I want is them to create a way that will enable mods of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. Would love custom stages or even ports of available custom stages made for Brawl. :)

Nice, I will test this out on my OG 3ds before putting it on my xl. BTW do we know what would be the exploit game yet?

people have a few guesses like doa:dimensions or cubic ninja but no one is sure
just follow smealum on twitter to get the announce

At this point, would it be worth it to import a New 3DS from Australia/Japan and then use the region-free capabilities of the exploit to play retail US games?

Not yet.

Us in Europe can import from Australia to play our games, Australia have a local launch and japan is obviously covered. America is the only region with no option other than to wait.

I would advise waiting for feedback on the exploit before importing.

I wouldn't count on getting much usage out of this on the N3DS. Nintendo can just release a mandatory firmware update that shuts down the exploit and is required for any new games to run.

Not much point in having a new system and only being able to play one or two of the new games on it.

I disagree. This happened with the Wii and PSP,and guess what? The homebrew was patched to overcome it, avoid updates and install custom firmware every single time.

Every time Nintendo released a new Wii title with a forced firmware update on it it meant jack shit because homebrew bypassed the upgrade data for games.

Yeah, you can close the door (See: PS3), but it's a lot harder once people have the keys (metaphorical keys, not just system keys).

Personally I'm buying the New 3DS next year, so if I can use this to make my launch 3DS region free after I do the system transfer, that would be great.

At that point I wouldn't have to worry about firmware as I'd keep the old one offline. (Unless they start including firmware patches on games)
