Besides the new Kingdom Rush: Origins game (which I am buying the minute is out since tomorrow I will have a trip to the hospital to operate something past due already and I need games for that) two new endless games that look good have been released (the IAP doesnt look bad so far)

screen520x924.jpeg

screen520x924.jpeg

Crossy Road, a free to play game featuring a ton of additional skins for 1$ each, actually this is useless since the best characters skins are from different games like Epoch or Forget Me Not, free if you own those games, like me... and Wild Wild West. Some sort of shooter/dodger/bullethell something. Both look good.

Also a new game from 1Button today (Quetzalcoatl) and the new Earn to Die

It's not multiplayer only, is it?
I'm on the verge of getting it, but haven't seen much of it. Only heard that it's good.

There is a single player campaign. The only real bad thing I ever heard about it is the controls. Not sure if you know that battles are lane based match 3 style. There are issues on smaller screens getting the right lane. Think there was a fix to make that better. But it's definitely not gamebreaking and plays fine on iPad. Great game otherwise.

Pete did removed that post for a while so I didnt know what else was coming out...

Quetzalcoatl (apparently Google corrected it for me) looks nice and original.

And also a game from FDG (makers of the beyond awesome game Slayin´) that also looks good... Swing Tale. 1$ no IAP.

screen520x924.jpeg

And tons more. This website is terrific for knowing the new releases:

The main game is the big single player campaign.
There is a cool async multiplayer vs mode where you use one of the characters used in the main sp campaign to fight against a friend via GC a. It's pretty cool.

Crossy Road - Really addictive. Nice colorful voxel art style, and simple tight controls. Going to be hooked on this for a while

Wild Wild West - Western-themed auto-run bullet hell shooter. Reminds of Ninjijn in a way since you run automatically, but can move around the screen. You shoot automatically as well, so gameplay comes down to evasion. Great pixel art, satisfying gameplay, varied enemies, bosses

Checkpoint Champion - an arcadey race against the clock. Need to drift and drive through checkpoints, across varied terrain. Nice effects such as the dust cloud in your wake when you drive over gravel and the driving just feels tight and satisfying. A lot of content between the levels, endless arenas, multiple vehicles, and more

Quetzalcoatl - A new minimalist puzzler from 1Button. Basically you have a grid with different colored tiles and "snakes" marked with different colors. You need to maneuver the snakes around the grid and around each other so their colors match the colors on the grid. Nice colorful aesthetic, a ton of levels, and simple concept that is already growing challenging in the early levels

Thanks for the imps! Sounds like all four are worth a try. How are the F2P models handled in them?

Oops - guess that last one isn't freemium (a good thing).

Still no universal app for Kingdom rush.

Why.

Hope there is cloud saves and shared iap. Had both versions of Frontier yet iap aren't shared so I couldn't use some of my bought heroes on iPad.

Actually, I logged into the NZ store and it appears that there is a Universal app (says compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod) and then an HD iPad only app. So the first one should be playable on both without the need for using 2x mode. The iPad only is a larger file size so I'm sure it still looks better. Kind of strange way to go though.

I find Crossy Road incredibly addictive too. Already unlocked many different skins and my top score is 140. I can see myself buying skins as a thank you for the developers for this nice fresh endless runner with no pay to win mechanics. This is a keeper.

They do separate apps because they dont want a huge Universal file that is filled mostly with hi-res textures for the iPads, thats why they do separate apps. One standard resolution for universal and another fully retina display HD iPad version.

In celebration for the Final Fantasy sale, I'm starting another FFVI playthrough.

I think the mobile remake is the best version. Haters gonna hate!

With iPhone resolutions up to 1080p now. Don't really see the hassle. Or just have higher texture visuals as a free iap to keep initial file size smaller.

It is gameplay wise. Only version that has cyan charge while you have full control over other units. Making him useful. And kind of broken.

Yep. Also, the music. And the better translation (compared to the SNES version), beautiful portraits accompanying every dialogue, a lot of small tweaks that make the gameplay much more enjoyable (auto battle, for instance, is a godsend, and espers are far easier to equip), beautiful battle backgrounds. And as a gamer that isn't as patient as years ago, the optional tip of where to go next is very welcome. As is the bestiary and the album telling th story so far.

Sure the sprites aren't as charming as the original and the game lost a bit of it's atmosphere, but overall it's an upgrade.

So... Apple decided to rename "Free" to "Get"... Get to Play? Getium? Sounds weird... also seems like someone watched that South Park episode.

Or an optional additional download to make it look better. By the way I dont like separate apps, I just was explaining how it worked.

It's actually what Google did in the play store a while ago so it's not that surprising. I think it makes more sense than "free" though "download" or "install" would have been better.

I think "Download" or "Install" may get confused with the apps you already bought. Unless they change them to "Purchased" of course. Also I didnt know Google did that... never pay any attention to that platform :p

Was wondering if it was just me. Interesting change. I guess it's technically more accurate because the games aren't exactly "free"

Some are.

There are games with no monetization at all. Also, there are games which are only ad supported, which presumably could be considered "free"?

True. Stuff like Deadly Bullet are the rare exceptions. And games with only full unlocks or ad removers

Hmm, I may grab the After Years at $8 since I enjoyed my time with FFIV.

I considered grabbing FFVI too but I don't know when I'll get to playing it since I beat it more than once already throughout the years, and after the iOS8 compatibility clusterfuck with SE and Capcom I'll only buy their games now when I'm sure I'll be playing them in the foreseeable future, even if they're on sale.

Speaking of which, I noticed they updated Chaos Rings and Chaos Rings Ω with the following note:

What's new

●iOS 8 Compatibility
The following bugs have been addressed:

- Tapping the Save button while playing no longer causes the game to crash
- The autosave feature now functions as intended

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we hope you continue to enjoy playing CHAOS RINGS.

So... there is hope. I was waiting for a sale to grab Chaos Rings II so I could play it before III (whenever it's localized), but it's one of their games that got broken on iOS8. Hopefully they fix that one soon enough too, at least it doesn't have a fatalist "support dropped, tough luck" note like Bloodmasque.

I can't ever say no to more Kingdom Rush, even if it's badically the same game with different heroes and a few new mechanics. Only thing left to wish for is some kind of Diablo-esque loot mechanic to truly make it the only game I ever play.

There's also, uh, Pocket RPG, Battleloot, Heroes vs Monsters, and this other game whose name I just forgot. Not a lot of Diablo-esque games on the platform though, yes

There are certainly some out there, I just want it this format. Monsters infrequently drop random items; crap ones you can sell to the gnome or something, good ones go on your hero to upgrade it. Make super rare/powerful items and add in another difficulty tier or something. Just a dream, I'll play it either way for many many hours.

Downloaded Candy Crush Soda Saga out of morbid curiosity and HOLY SHIT. They managed to make the game even WORSE for the casual gamer than the first one. I'm only on level 10 and I want to delete the game forever. Level 8 introduced a brand new mechanic without explaining anything about it: the bon-bon square, where you have to pop a square next to it four times before being able to get rid of the candy beneath it. You have to clear the entire board in 25 moves. I beat it by pure luck.

Level 10. Good god. 20 moves to bring two pieces up to the top of the board. This shit is just absolutely insane. How anyone could defend this game as having good game design is beyond me. The game itself is fun, but the mechanics and absurdly strict limits placed on the gamer are just... I just can't. It's just not fun, especially when you have to wait 30 minutes for a heart to renew. Fucking ludicrous.

My interest was spurred by that five star Toucharcade review and the debate it caused in here. My time with this game is enough to make me never read another TA review again.

Not to encite another TA derailment, but only read Shaun Musgrave's reviews. He's the only reviewer there whose opinions I trust.

Also, the new Monstar Dash update is God awful. They took any sense of reward out of the game. Just sad.

I played it straight for two hours... just killed the first boss. So far it seems to me that is the best one yet. There are a lot of little additions here and there -like enemies going into waterfalls or along rivers- that makes an even more engrossing experience. The IAP most powerful heroes are: A walking tree that seems powerful for 5$, a magic dragon that seems even more powerful for 7$ and two "coming soon" heroes. But the basic hero -an elf archer- that comes for free seems nice. Deals damage, shoots really fast. Its a good unit. The rest of the game is the same. The same polished and balanced tower defense. The best one too, followed by Sleep Attack. Need to sleep now.

lol an elf archer again???

I actually really liked a few of the iap heroes in Frontier. The wizard encourages microing which adds another level of engagement.

Minecraft PE just got updated to 0.10!

Mojang said:
What's new:
.10 - Prettier, faster, less buggier

We’ve improved the graphics, increased performance, and killed off heaps of bugs in one massive update. We’ve also stopped baby animals from sinking when they try to swim because that’s just mean. Update and have fun!

  • Loads of bug fixes!
  • More watery-looking water
  • Foggier-looking fog
  • Even more particles than before
  • Tinted lighting on terrain and mobs
  • Improved performance
  • More fences! More fence gates! Everyone loves fences

Kingdom Rush Origins still does the stupid regular $3 or HD $5 version split? Lame. :(

Has anyone tried the cheaper version on an iPad Mini Retina yet? I'm curious about how it looks. That version is iPad compatible, so it shouldn't do the "blown up 2x" iPhone app thing, right?

EDIT: answered in the main thread for KR: Origins. Apparently it's good, so I'm going for that version!

Hey guys, going to do my part and tell you to check out Checkpoint Champion!

It's time to burn rubber!

Put your driving skills to the ultimate test in a series of fiendish 10-second challenges! You'll need technique and tenacity as you hit and weave through checkpoints on road, dirt, water, grass and mud! Choose between grip and speed as you drift between obstacles, spin around hairpin turns and turbo your way to victory. The challenges may be small, but only the most dedicated drivers will triumph!

Features:
- Simple, 2-touch car controls!
- 48 unique, bite-sized challenges!
- A cast of charming retro-inspired cars, each with several paint jobs!
- Multiple terrain types!
- Game Center leaderboards for every challenge!
- 2 endless Arenas!
- Event of the Day!
- Video replays! (iPhone 4S or newer, iPad2 or newer)
- A funky soundtrack, perfect for checkpoint chasing!
- Missions and Secrets!

This is the first game from independent games developer, Protostar. We hope you like it, and we hope you are ready to become... a Checkpoint Champion!

The two guys behind this are some awesome guys who used to work at Halfbrick and decided to go out on their own. The game also has only one IAP - to support the developers!

Download it for free from here! It's a great little game and I hope it does well for them.
