Can anyone who played Game Dev Story by Kariosoft confirm something for me?

I updated the app via iTunes a few days ago, and as per usual it dumps the old app into the trash.

But for some reason, where most apps are called like "Angry Birds x.x.x.ipa", Game DEv story was labelled as "gm08f22e x.x.x.ipa".

Why is that? is that normal? Is this what the name of the file itself is labelled for anyone else BEFORE the current version? (current is 1.2.0, and is labelled "Game D Story x.x.x.ipa". (you can check by right clicking and "get info" on the app in iTunes and selecting "file", OR navigate to your mobile applications folder in Finder.

I've only ever downloaded things from the App Store.

If any of you have Androids, and I say this because of the mention earlier of Exiles, Crescent Moon has an awesome Humble Bundle right now! And if you pay $8 or more you get Alpha versions of Exiles and The Deer God, both of which will upgrade to the full version.

I'm getting it as we speak!!

It was

Visually awesome, some really intense moments, but besides that, it was just okay. Not something I'd watch again. I laughed out loud when Bullock started barking and the whole "use a fire extinguisher to navigate space" scene was just so ridiculous that it took me out of the movie

Interstellar was better

I'm glad to hear someone else say this-I thought it was a techincally amazing movie-but it was just a barebones plot-I would never want to watch it again.

Nitrome needs to release more IOS games. I'm playing some of their flash games and they'd just be perfect for mobile. Simple controls, cool concepts

Turn-Undead is a turn based puzzle platformer
http://www.nitrome.com/games/turnundead/#.VHOIQYvF-VM

Swindler would work really well with tilt controls
http://www.nitrome.com/games/swindler2/#.VHOJwIvF-VM

Changetype is a really cool platformer, you "hack" the levels by switching item properties

My god, why am i playing sims freeplay.

Just dled it because its a RED promo thing. Game scratches my itches well, also because you don't need to play it much.

Quick load times, 60fps, decent animations, seems to have a lot of features too. not shabby.

Looks like Hero Siege was removed from the App Store :(

From what I've read, it seems like it's a case of "we hit it big on other platforms so why bother with mobile?". The PC version is getting its 6th expansion, and they have a PS4/Xbox One verison in the works.

Great. And to make matters worse, I just downloaded it from my purchase history and it crashes immediately on iOS 8. I guess we'll never see any update to fix that either.

Eh, don't get me wrong.
I enjoyed the movie, the idea, the scenes, the pacing, the lonely actors etc...
But...the electronic engineer in myself couldn't avoid thinking the movie is just...let's say...highly improbable.
Now...I play fantasy games, not to mention I love scifi...from Star Wars to Star Trek...so I'm no stranger when it comes to 'improbable' or totally against physics or quantum laws situations...but in a 'realistic-contemporary' setting this hurts a bit more.

When she survive the second crash or pilot in space with the fire extinguisher...I just had a laugh.

I had two good hours anyway...followed by one hour of awesome Out There...so I'm ok :)

Haha, looking back on that scene made me chuckle as well.

Did you watch it at home? Because it's one of those movies that watching it in theaters is a completely different experience

I saw the movie in IMAX 3D and it didn't change a thing. The movie is visually brilliant, but horribly written. No amount of IMAX 3D or any other cinema fluff can change that.

I absolutely LOVE Sunburn. Definitely going on the game of the year list.

It's a blissful mix of melancholy and cheery tones, as the character names, dialogue, and level names are all consistently funny, despite the bleak events actually occurring.

Combine that with some wonderful wonderful pixels, a very unique central mechanic, and brilliant level design makes it one of the best puzzle games of the year.

Also, did I mention it's sci-fi?

So as far as I can tell, the only Wicked Lair IAP is two expansion packs. Both are $0.99, and each adds 3 dungeon types, 39 creatures, and 3 traps

So for $2, you unlock 6 dungeons, 6 traps, and 78 creatures

Wicked Lair out in NZ

And this game looks charming and fun

Downloaded Wicked Lair. Have to spend some time with it as it's a bit rough around the edges - no tutorial, for instance. Also appears to be a lack of a campaign or story but rather you set the parameters and see if you can win.

Also wanted to follow up on my Humble Bundle purchase. Both Exiles and The Deer God need to be on everyone's radar. Both need a little work before formal release, but both look to be excellent entries into their respective genres - a sci-fi Shadowlands-ish RPG and a mesmerizing exploration journey with the animals - Sword and Sworcery style.

Looking forward to playing more of both and can say they may also be GoTY contenders if they come out and just based on what I've seen.

I was going to buy Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on sale to see if the remake made the game any better.

It looks like it was only discounted for a few days.

Oh well, next time, I wasn't too excited about it anyway.

Same happened to me, when I went to check the sale out the price was already increased back to normal. :(

So heads up, everyone! Regulars and lurkers alike, good news. I talked with the mods and they said a Mobile GOTY thread is okay to do. It's going to be Mobile in general rather than just IOS only

Anyway, I'm going to be using the same format we used for IndieGAF Voting last year. Here are the threads from 2013:

The IndieGAF Community voting thread
http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=734961

The "IndieGAF recommends: The 50 Best Indies of 2013" thread

Cool! Good news. Especially in light of not being able to do the indie poll over at that other place. Let me know if you need any help.

Get a load of this. Releasing in the next 10 days. No IAP. 2 additional chapters on the way. Using the Wayward Souls pricing method (price of all goes up after each expansion releases for free for existing owners)

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=249049

Hi guys,

Just want to show a preview of the upcoming RPG / Dungeon Crawler from Wave Light Games. It will hit both iPhone and iPads before the end of the year. Currently in the fine tuning and testing phases of chapter 1 of what will be a 3 chapter game. The game is a turn-based dungeon crawler similar to Warhammer Quest. However, it also includes cover / line of sight aspects of XCOM. Players form a party of 6 heroes from a choice of 20 character classes and explore underground ruins and face ratmen, demons, undead, goblins and other monsters.

Here are some screen shots to show what the game looks like. The following are the main title screens and team selection screens:

15250500114_9103a28a94.jpg

15253098283_4dd66a3c74.jpg

Here is the player selection screen. Players choose 6 characters for each play through out of a current roster of 20 character classes. Character classes include some interesting classes such as Elven Paladins, Vampires, Minotaurs, Centaurs, Orc Berserkers as well as the usual suspects found in RPG's. Each class has a specific play style and special abilities so a play through with a different party will be a very different experience ... hopefully adding to the game's replay value.

15250501644_1d59b7fb05.jpg

Here's some shots of gameplay. Gameplay is turn-based where players move, attack and perform special abilities with each of their 6 characters. The computer then does the same with its creatures. There is a cover system as well as line of sight so anyone that's played XCOM will be very comfortable with this game. Unit abilities are varied and include things like special attacks, area attacks, buffs, debuffs, special melee attacks, and even some more unusual things like summoning spells, searching an area for treasure, setting traps, teleportation, etc.

15846936226_b6d037da53.jpg

15686988087_410a0b9fd1.jpg

Gameplay is tactical and the AI is smart as it leverages cover and focuses on trying to kill wounded player characters. Combat rules are based on some pretty complex RPG mechanics but all the calculations are done by the system and then just presented to the player as % chance to hit or get a critical hit and so on. Before making an attack on an enemy, this information is presented to the player in a small info box, as shown below:

15685423160_1005d5e124.jpg

Most of the action is from a top down view but players are free to zoom in and pan and rotate the camera using the touch controls. Pinch to zoom, two fingers to rotate the camera and so forth. There is also an XCOM style action cam that zoom in on the action when players or enemy AI performs attacks. Here you can see an example of a zoomed in action cam shot.

15872820225_b765b6c5a1.jpg

We have heavily optimized the game such that it runs on low end hardware. If it detects that the device has only 512MB of RAM, it switches to lower quality textures at run time and disables some special effects. Therefore, It runs really well on even a first generation iPad mini and iPad 2 and looks spectacular on newer devices. I believe it should also run on an iPhone 4S but I haven't actually tested it yet on that device. It's probably best played on a tablet or larger phone since the inventory and shop / vendor screens will be hard to see on a small phone screen but it should still be playable.

Please let me know what you think and if you're interested in the game. We're hoping to submit to Apple within the next 10 days.

That's so shitty. I loved it on iOS.

Same here, its one of a kind, definitely going in my GOTY list as well. One game I fully recommend to anyone... if you like games.

Demon Hunters looks right up my alley. Thanks for putting this on my radar, JCho!

I just bought Sunburn and played the first few levels. I'm struggling a little with the flying, but I know I'll get the hang of it. As other said, the humor nicely offsets the really sad events going on. I like it so far, but it hasn't landed on my GOTY list just yet. Time will tell.

Is there a solid release date for Out There: Omega? I did a quick Google search and didn't see anything concrete, so I wanted to check in here and see if I missed it. Thanks, guys!

Nothing I know so far...I spoke with the dev the other day....but lips are sealed.
I *THINK* it should be out by the end of this year....so in a month or so...but I wouldn't be surprised if it could slip to next year....they keep adding things to have the PC version feature complete too.

Personally I can't freaking wait.

Hero Siege is coming back, here's the latest post from the devs on Facebook:

"I just successfully submitted Hero Siege for iOS review! I will announce a re-release date when i get the game reviewed."
I wonder if they are just going to make it a paid app now like the steam version.

picked up monument valley.

One of the few games that you instantly know is something special the instant you move something.

So as you might expect from someone who only got into IOS gaming around mid-2012, I'm late to the party in regards to a lot of games.

Finally playing Bean's Quest, which I really should have played earlier since it's Kumobius. Best auto-jumping platformer on IOS? Before I would have said Super Splatform, but BQ is so polished and well crafted. Very excited for Bean's Dream now

Months later, octobot just toppled my Threes challenge score with 69,195 points. You out there man? You realize this means war, right?

Ok. You and Frost convinced me. I dived into this. Really awesome! Funny, I downladed the "premium" version of Space Chicks with the Humble Bundle yesterday. I had really liked that game on iOS before they destroyed it with freemium. So playing the IAP free version was a nice treat. Looking at this I thought they looked similar -- picking up astronauts instead of "chicks".

But Sunburn is so much better! The more realistic pyhsics add to the challenge and love the little quips they make. Great stuff.

And gotta put in another plug after playing more of Exiles -- sci-fi fans NEED to get it when it's released on iOS.
