Psn Account hijacked! (Update: 6 months later, a winner is you!)

It's very unlikely there's any hacking going on here. Your account password was either weak, you reused it at another site that was compromised, or your PC became infested with malware that keylogged your password.

so, I bought one of those scratch cards for another year of psn+, thinking that I will REMOVE my CC information from within ps4.

well, I cant remove my cc!

for some reason, when I try to get into settings->psn->account information->wallet, I can go up to that point no problem, but choosing "BILLING INFORMATION" always brings up the infinite wait bars.
no difference if I wait one minute or fifteen minutes, it simply does not proceed from there.

any tips guys?

use this site

The last time I tried to use my credit card to purchase something from the PSN store I got an error message about my credit card details being incorrect or something of that nature. I talked to support and they couldn't help me at all. They just said "that happens sometimes" and told me I would have to use a different card on my account. Really? I've had this card for 17 years and never had an issue. I guess in an odd sort of way Sony was really protecting me :p

It is rather surprising that Song doesn't have 2-step authentication yet. It's a very common thing now days. Even though it's not 100% I feel much with it activated.

thanks, I can see both my activated ps4 and ps3 in this, BUT, I go to billing and it has NOTHING about my cc. its like a blank space, waiting for me to fill it out.

of course, I do remember that I put my cc details inside the ps4 forms (and that was day1 last year), and not through the site, so maybe that is the reason I dont see it through the sony web page?

Your card hasn't expired in over 17 years? What?

Well, to be fair your Xbox Live account is also your Hotmail account, your OneDrive account, your Office 365 account, your Azure account, your MSDN account and even the local account on your Windows 8 PC. They have a lot more to protect.

Still no excuse for Sony

I just meant I've had a credit card through the same bank for 17 years. I think the number may have changed once or twice when it was upgraded. I've never really had any trouble using it and have used it at Sony more than once. Now, for whatever reason, it no longer works. The bank says my account is fine and that they saw some transactions from Sony for $0 try to hit my card while I was attempting to use it. Sony really didn't have an explanation though...

Just got hacked as well.

Bank caught it and have cancelled card and are sending out a new one.

Changed password and deleted all billing information off my account.

What the fuck sony?!

The problem is there have been people, even on this very forum, who load up their gaming systems with points and credits, and then they lose hundreds when their accounts get hijacked.

There's no good reason why you should load up your console with credits, though. Keep it in a safe place, and load the cards as you need them.

i got caught out by russians last week and had my PS4 and PS3 deactivated online. They bought DLC with the £1 i had in my wallet.

Thankfully the customer service rep handled it like a champion of the common people. Glad i don't have my card details linked.

I've never had any problems, but just in case I use a Google Wallet card(Also have a PayPal Debit card). If there is no money in my G Wallet, the transaction fails.

I simply pick up my phone, open the app, add the right amount of money to it and then buy in the PS/XB/Steam store.

No worries.

Came in expecting Fifa being the charges(it happened to me back on the 360) but eh what can you do, best advice i have it to alternate between 3 passwords all year long(or something to that effect) and never have your card on psn/xbl (and bitch about fifa regardless if it was the cause or not lol)

I won't be able to post an update till tomorrow as Sony's customer support is closed on Sundays. I will post updates though.

You wont get Sony to refund your money. The only way will be through chargeback with your bank which will then cause Sony to ban the account. If you speak with them they won't do shit for you and advise you of the ban if you do file a chargeback. It will take like 2 weeks to get banned though when you do it. It;s just whether you value your account more than the money that was taken.

Bullshit. If your account was compromised and fraudulent charges were made they will refund the purchases.

Hey more of a PSA than anything but my psn account got hijacked yesterday. They bought gta5 on my account and then changed the log in details. I didn't notice this had happened till today, at which point £500 had already left my account! All on psn games by the looks of it. I've just got off the phone to my bank and cancelled my card to prevent any more charges. Tomorrow I'm going to call Sony and get my account back using the three serial numbers. I have for my ps3 ps4 and vita, but I have no idea how Sony handle refunds as I had better get this money back.

What are peoples experiences with this sort of thing? And yeah, watch your accounts guys!

i demanded sony to refund me the amount i payed for driveclub, i won't go into details, but your issue is a lot more serious. if you provide convincing evidence that you weren't the one who bought the games then they will probably refund all the money.

Nonsense. Report the fraud and they'll credit you. Chargebacks are only ever a last resort.

Truthfully, while they might give him the money back, I'd be really surprised if they did it as anything other than PSN store credit. I'd imagine that the best (and maybe the only) way to get the money back into your bank account would be a chargeback.

Have a random unique password plus 'enter password on checkout' so I should be ok.

I think i'll change my password and remove CC just in case. Tbh these days PSN cards or paypal are easy enough, especially now that PSN cards are email delivery and not posted.

No they wont. They wouldn't with me even after I kept escalating the issue to speak with a higher up. I got to the top of the ladder when I called (or at least they said there was no one else higher I could escalate to). They refused to refund the purchases and informed me if I was to file a charge back (the only way to get the money taken back) they would ban my account.

I can't speak to your experience, but your insistence that Sony has a blanket policy of refusing to refund fraudulent transactions is preposterous.

Well I can only speak of my experience which is similar to OPs, Account "hacked" (unauthorised access), purchases made and charged to linked credit card (debit card in my case), changed password. Only difference is with me the purchases were around £150 and all through PSN, none done on other sites using my card. In my experience, 100% of the time SOny has said "we can't do anything and won't refund the account" even though I could prove the purchases weren't made on my only PS3.

Unless you are saying it's my fault.

Sorry for the do but bunpibg for those that wanted updates. Just got off the phone to skby again and they said it could take a few days for billing to get back to me. So I enquired about how I go a out organising things with the bank. As I have not yet reported these charges as fraudukent, just cancelled my card. Sony advised not to as the bank would likely just make a charge back on the payments leaving my PS account in debt and it would be banned in this instance. So looks like I'm by the balls till billing get back to me :/

My Password has been the same and my Credit Card(changed only because of expiration) since the launch of the PS3 and I haven't had one problem.

This, and I game share often with my PS3 friends. I feel bad for people who get their accounts hacked, but I can't help but think they've either used a really weak password or become subject to phishing at some point. I can't see how else their password would have been compromised. To this day I've never fallen for a phishing attempt and I've not yet had any of my accounts breached, despite the fact I use what a lot would consider a very simple password.

I feel bad for you OP.

change passwords regularly and don't use it for anything else. don't store CC info. buy cards from amazon and input the code. that's how i deal with sony.

Whenever something like this is brought up, I wish people would tell us what password they were using.

Was it actually long enough, randomly generated, consisting of letters/numbers/symbols?

I have a feeling the answer is "no" in most cases.

Well, as I posted earlier, my friend's experience was pretty much the same as Zomba13's, so it certainly doesn't seem they're particularly concerned with helping out those in that situation. The PSN terms of service seem to consider it your responsibility to keep your log in details safe, and if someone else abuses them, well, too bad for you.

so, today again I spent time trying to remove my cc from my ps4 ( as I quoted above, there was nothing listed in the sony official site under my cc info).
after quite some waiting time and many retries, it managed to bring up my billing info inside ps4.

guess what: its empty! no credit card details at all!
how can this be? I myself put my cc details in there the first day I bought the ps4.

you guys think its due to network things? should I keep trying to reload wallet information inside ps4 until I see my CC info?

I think its more people using the same email/password for multiple sites. My gmail, msn, bnet, and psn accounts all have different passwords, and not just adding a 1,2,3 ect to the end either.

Either way, it sucks for the OP and I hope you get your money back without loosing your account. Youd think Sony would have a way to refund the game and cancel the license, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard.

I got an email from Sony to change my password and go to a link. But i never requested a password change.

Does Sony ask you to change passwords proactively?

I've never received such an email from Sony.

Obviously common sense dictates never to click on such a link. Manually go to the sony entertainment site and change it direct.

Can somebody tell me how to remove my CC info from my account? I got hacked once for 100$ and don't want it to happen again. I went with PSN cards for a while but added the CC card back for a transaction thinking I would remove it right after but I can't find the option anywhere on the account management page.
