I find it very frustrating that bosses are arbitrarily gated behind high score stars. I can't even seem to unlock Ruby. I want to keep playing the game, not grind the same levels ad nauseum until I get some arbitrary score. Very disappointed in adventure mode.

I didn't find most of the star requirements too tough to reach. Maybe you need to get better at the game?
Sorry, I know that's not helpful.

I had to go back to grind a couple stars for the fourth and fifth bosses, but it wasn't too bad. Level 49 and 50 beat me up pretty good but overall I'd say it was the perfect difficulty. I had to level up my skills in order to beat those and by the time I finally did clear adventure mode, I went back to older levels and destroyed my old records. I feel like I'm a lot better at the game by playing adventure mode because I can adapt to situations a lot faster.

Yeah, I have no problem with the whole "get better" thing, and I intend to. I like the game, it's a good successor to Retro Evolved. It's just that there is no reason to block progression the way it does. I mean, if I were allowed to try the next boss but wasn't yet good enough to beat it, that's fine. But to not allow me to even make an attempt just because I don't have high enough scores on previous levels seems shitty. I perceive it differently somehow.

Just wondering of there are any large differences between the last generation versions and current generation? I am guessing not, but i want to be sure.

Feels good to be on top. Come on, ppl, I need some competition =P

Is the leaderboard server 'not available' half the time on xbone only or is it happening to every version? never had that with the other two :/

I felt like I was pretty good in Geometry Wars but playing Dimensions makes me realize I wasn't that great and that I'm probably have gotten really rusty in the last couple of years.

I have to say I'm kinda disappointed in my friendlist. I'm the only one of 60+ people playing this game. It probably doesn't help that the game is available on pretty much every platform.

I'm having a blast playing this although I am gonna wear out my PS4 controller like I did with my first 360-controller. New controllers are crazy expensive...

Experiencing the same issue (Xbox version).
Try restarting the game. Go to the home screen and force quit it by hitting the Menu button, then selecting quit.

A couple of times I couldn't connect to any online feature in the game even though I was. Restarting fixed that.

yeah, really not a fan of how they handle that.

The three major things wrong with this game, that were made even clearer when I just replayed GW2 are:

1. The hit boxes are far less forgiving and as a result far less fun. In GW2, particularly Pacifism, you feel like a ninja, or like a fighter pilot in a cheesy action movie, swooping into tiny gaps and barely getting out of live, often wondering how you even made it out. It is exhilarating, and for me at least, a large part of what makes it so much fun. This is missing in GW3. You get hit way more often, way closer. It feels like your ship is slower compared to the blue diamonds, and as a result pacifism is harder, and in my opinion, less fun. This extends to the other modes but is less of a big deal in them than it is in Pacifism.

2. Enemy spawns take too long and are much more likely to happen on top of you as a result. The game decides where the enemies will spawn, and it won't be on top of you, if you are staying still. But you seldom are, so it seems much much much more of a gameplay element in this game to avoid getting spawned on, and I don't like that as much at all. It isn't a mechanic I find fun.

3. Again, mostly in Pacifism, there is a massive issue with the graphics obscuring information you need, namely whether or not the gates you pass through have killed all the enemies. The animations and graphics are so busy that you can't tell if you can double back through a cloud of enemies that you just blew up. You don't know whether or not there are some left alive waiting to kill you. This, again, makes you feel less like an awesome ninja fighter pilot.

These three things are not objectively bad necessarily, they make the game harder, and some may like them. But for me, they make the game much less fun and exhilarating.

I like the Adventure mode for the most part, and the obstruction that the various 3d shapes provide. I like the moving walls, and the different designed scenarios.

But Pacifism in particular has seen a massive downgrade for reasons 1 and 3, and the rest of the game is worse off because of 2, at least in my view.
I can't disagree with any of these points. The game does look mostly better overall, but at the expense of being far too busy and obscuring views that we took for granted in GW2 and earlier. Can't help but think that if they had the original creator on board, this wouldn't have happened.

I like the game and it's great to have the series on current gen - but I find adventure mode to be so hard it's not fun. The 20 star requirement before i can fight the second boss has me stuck and I don't know if I'll keep trying to get past it. The 3D shapes are cool but make it hard to see what's coming and change the games feel - which would be ok if it wasn't so hard. At 13 stars in adventure mode it's not looking good.

Still leaves me with classic modes.

Might just be me and my old man reflexes but I wish they had balanced adventure mode progress a different way.
Yup, it comes off a little like a freemium game in that respect. Too much influence from those sorts of titles with the gating of all the adventure rounds (not to mention the drone upgrades and such). Having to backtrack to three-star some modes because you don't have enough upgrades is a load of bullshit. If you can't three-star the first round until you have an upgrade obtained later on, it's akin to a freemium title.

soo, browsing the game folder in steam and found a file in this path
E:program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonGeometry Wars 3 - DimensionsWindows

gw.wad

its 224 mb , almost the size of this game

.wad file ? isn't that for wii games ?

edit : never mind , it was also for doom games
.wad games are for lots of things. I tried looking into ripping the game audio from GW2 and also the iOS version of Geometry Wars, they both had .wad files. I suspect that particular package is used by Bizarre/Lucid for various titles. Might be an Unreal Engine thing too?

Yeah, see my point above about it feeling like a freemium title at times :/

These are very good points. I really like GW3. However those little things like enemies popping up right below you especially blending in with the blue grid background, some shapes have the same color as others (the homing squares should be more purple instead of pink), and the lag in Pacifism and in King modes with a lot of enemies showing up.

At times, I feel like just playing GW2 if it wasn't an inconvenience to plug in my 360 console,

I have to say that, personally, you don't need any extra upgrades to get past the star requirements on each level. Now I know that my view on that isn't coming from the average players point of view or skill or whatever, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

This rather reminds me of *actual* retro gaming, where if your skills weren't up to par enough to progress, you didn't progress. They then gave you the ability to not only hone your skills to get better before throwing you into an even harder challenge, but also to get rewarded with time spent by giving you more and different firepower.

Its not like you have to 3 star everything to progress or whatever.

I don't know, maybe I like that there's less hand-holding than most modern games. I mean, even if you upgrade everything available to you, you're still not guaranteed to get further into the game until you're good enough. Comparing to freemiums isn't really warranted in my opinion.

just played for the first time in a few days, cracked the top 100 in pacifism again, this time at 69m. i tried to upload the video but my xbox keeps saying "sorry we couldn't upload your video just now. x0000000"

I'm going back to ignoring geoms for the rest of the session and seeing how it goes for me.

heh, 69.

awesome to hear. hope xbox rewards processes my MCC for 20,000 points to redeem for this soon

I haven't really played that mode much. Is your complaint that the gate spawns are too random?

I dont know if it's a valid complaint, it just pisses me off when gates spawn on top of each other, or when I'm like a centimeter away from it, or when I have no other choice but to hit the spawn gate headon.

I might just be incredibly biased, but I just get a bit annoyed by the spawns + heavy feeling ship. I wish it was more sleek like Super Stardust, where it feels possibly to escape tight spots.

I might just be horribly wrong and playing the mode wrong, I dont know

Edit: im looking at some high scoring gameplay, and it just seems that I suck

Just added blame spaces on Xbox One. Going for your Pacifism score, only 15 million away.

I scrolled through the thread and only saw a bunch of PSN accounts but no Gamer Tags. YourExWife, what's yours? I want people with high leaderboards so I have something to shoot for.

I think it's in my profile, but it's "YourExWife ohhh" just in case. I should be on later tonight so I'll probably stream or even do some VS if anyone wants to.

Try hard rebooting your xb1 (hold down the power button for 10 seconds - or just unplug it).
I had to do that to get it to work. Have had the same issue with getting COD AW MP to work at times. Seems to be a common problem you'd think they would fix by now.

Let me know if you want to try VS. I haven't messed around with it but sounds like fun.

Also, a lot of your Adventure Mode scores are getting beaten. :D

"OH NO!" lol

Yeah - I've played them all literally like twice ever. I've only gotten to put in a few hours this week :(

If anyone wants to play some versus with myself and CRS send me a message and I'll give you an invite to our lobby. Or just search Matchmaking.

Oh man, that 3rd pacifism in Adventure mode on a globe... Gives me auch a headache and makes me motion sick.. Its not even that hard but I just cant focus after a while lol

I'm having a blast with this game. At least two stars on all the adventure levels, now going for 3 stars.

Anybody else die mainly from enemies spawning on top of you/in you?

That's my only gripe with the game, other than that it is a true sequel.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Yet to have the leaderboards work in this (xbox).

The lack of local multiplayer game types that were in Geo wars 2 is also fairly disappointing.

Really have to get the hang of this. Haven't play Geometry Wars since '06 lol

I got so used to Resogun and this doesn't feel as good, but I'm slowly getting better as I keep playing.

So blue diamonds can go faster than you? That sucks.

Yay, finally got 3 stars on Planet of Peace. I grew to really like that level, though there are strange lulls within it, especially between the first and second star.

Also, if a blue diamond chases you for long enough, it will catch you. At least late in that level. I don't like that at all.

This has always been the case ever since Retro Evolved.

But it wasn't until stages like Planet of Peace and the dearth of gates that you ever really notice it. I have played a decent amount of all of them and never noticed it.

I'd beg to differ :)

EDIT: Also, dat pink ring. hnnnngggg.

EDIT2: Basically, this has always been a problem for anyone going for high scores. Notice how I have to keep shooting backwards to stop them from running into me.
