Persona Community Thread |OT6| Where 6 Comes Before 5 (No PQ or P4U spoilers!)

Is Persona Q worth buying? I've played P3/P4 and liked the story, but never any of the EO games so I'm not sure. From the gameplay I've seen it reminds me of SMT: Strange Journey which I thought was pretty okay.

Edit: Basically a "relative" newcomer to Atlus, only played some of their console games and a little bit of Strange Journey.

Yes completely. I tried playing the Etrian Odyssey 4 demo and I thought it was pretty boring yet Persona Q is absolutely fantastic.

Persona Q makes me really hope that option to date a guy is in Persona 5. Gonna spoiler this next bit.

2nd labyrinth, 1st floor
When the game asked if gender or age mattered for your destined partner, I kind of laughed cause I said gender was important and Yosuke agreed. I don't think me and Yosuke were thinking the same gender lol. Just makes me hope that we get to see gay relationships in the next one.

You should have have said sex doesn't matter man! I ended up getting Yosuke as my destined partner because of it.

In any case, i'm sure P5 will include same sex relationships. They tried doing making Yosuke into a potential, but backed out for reasons we don't understand, so it's not like its out of the question.

So Guilty Gear Xrd does not have any fights at all in its 3.5-4 hour story mode, and that immediately made me think back to discussions that were had here concerning P4A and P4AU's story modes. It makes me think how differently the quality and pace of a P4A game's story could be if it was similarly short and the writers felt no obligation to force any fights whatsoever (and also had Xrd's presentation).

This is pretty much my situation and I am really digging PQ. I'd recommend it to a Persona fan and a general RPG fan in a heartbeat. Although I'm still early in the game, I'm sure others who are much further on can better attest to the game's overall quality.

Wait... what? There's literally no fights at all? o_O;

Well, I'll be damned...

Nope. It's interesting, considering BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena. Possibly in part due to its step up in production values, but it has no fights resolved through gameplay whatsoever.

That sounds incredibly dumb. There's not even a Sol vs Ky fight?

As much as I like to harp on some aspects of Ultimax's story, I'd never want to see that. That just turns story mode into a bonus visual novel on top of the fighting game you bought. Or the other way round. >_>

I'm not sure if I prefer this or not. The fights always seemed like time wasters in BB games.

Requests in this game are so fantastic. Much better than just "go and kill this enemy to get this drop" or "go talk to this person" sidequests in P4.

The request where you fight
Elizabeth
was completely unexpected. Fight made me so stressed out.

I hope the third dungeon is as hard as people are saying it is. I'm on the fourth floor of the second dungeon and I just walked into an FOE by accident, and I won. Literal ignoring of the puzzle mechanics of that room. >_>;

So far, if I had to put PQ's difficulty in rankings, I'd say it's harder than anything in P4/P4G mostly, but not as hard as P3P's Maniac mode or SMT3's Hard Mode. Mind you, it'd be a lot harder if there weren't a few easily abusable mechanics.

Is that really so bad?

EDIT:
I'm liking this idea more and more.

I'm actually okay with the further delineation of the story mode just being story, while the game remains a fighting game at its core. BlazBlue and P4A(U)'s stories are unnecessarily bloated at times because of a need to shoehorn fights intermittently throughout them. A lack of any fights whatsoever could be an issue for me if the story was particularly long, but ~5 hours is short enough for me to tolerate it and, if it meant that the writers had more creative freedom to write the story they wanted to, I'd be fine with that change. I'm getting a fighting game to play it anyways, but I also want the story to be worthwhile and beating on weak AI does nothing for me.

What's weird in Xrd's case is that I've already come across certain situations where a fight could have easily and naturally been inserted between two lines of dialogue, but they decided to just have it play out 100% as a well presented VN instead.

Am I the only one who thinks that the hands (especially the right hand) seem a bit...... off?

Like it looks like its too far wrapped around the hilt for where his arms and body is.

I also thought it was interesting that instead of the Arcade Mode being simplified story mode with a cliffhanger like in Ultimax and Arena, in Xrd it seems to be its own thing and necessary. At least that what I get, since the game recommends you play Arcade before Story.

I just noticed that too. The sword looks like it's behind his right hand instead of being held by his hand.

Looks like it was a rushed job :/

Maybe, but at least the faces look-
...
Do Yu and Sho have the same hairstyle?

EDIT: Huh. Must've been how they both flow towards the back.

That picture is amaaaaaaazing.

Also, I haven't drawn a new banner for OT7 because I forgot. I was thinking when I drew OT8 I'd ask people for the two characters they'd most like to see in it.

Man that'd be a weird trip. Every member of the P2 cast, especially the EP cast, will know a bit about the futures of most of the P1 cast. It'd be a game's worth of Margarets.

Naoya/Tatsuya/Elly
Maya/Katsuya

...I had no idea Koromaru was wearing a shirt in Persona 3...
I thought the wings were just like a random accessory.

It's why I thought the hoodie was so weird in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

No way, I could have sworn you were an Ulala & Baofu guy as well

(Voted No)

I lost all faith in Baofu after I realized he had facial hair... Nah, they're both great. All P2 core characters are great. Ulala and Baofu had one of, if not the best romantic relationship in the series.

Also, you voted for the wrong option.

Anything with P3MC, Aigis, and/or Naoto would be enough for me.

Poll #005: Will Persona 5 resurface in any way at or around the PlayStation Experience event? Includes any new info regarding P5 whatsoever, like a PS4 NA release confirmation. Following poll #004 (where most guessed horribly wrong).
It's very likely that AtlusUSA will confirm a PS4 release for Persona 5, so I voted yes. I don't think there will be any (Japanese) news for Persona 5 or P4D whatsoever though.

I think it's virtually guaranteed that Persona 5 PS4 will be mentioned. I'd bet real money on that, even.

Beyond that, I have no clue what we'll see.

So well... i completed P4G yesterday. My first Persona game. And now i even completed 5 RPGs in my life.

And it makes me sad to leave that bunch.
I want fucking more. Give me P4-2 ffs.

Allow me to introduce you to the magical world of spin-off titles! Check out Arena or PQ.
Or go straight into NG+

I meant at the back. Though that's probably just the blur at the edges of the cover.

Either way, it's nice to know I can reach my monthly quota of spewing stupid shit in four days...

Don't worry you're not alone in that regard. I tend to say tons of stupid stuff and realize too late exactly how dumb those things were.

I also have the ability to somehow change the course of discussion so that I end up talk about things that are completely unrelated to the topic at hand.
