No Man's Sky Gameplay Trailer (TGAs)

I'm sorry but this is unreal. This game shouldn't exist. It's too good to be true...

I can't believe it's happening. This trailer has hyped me more than most trailers have ever done before...

As a Carl Sagan and Cosmos fan, I can't wait to dive balls deep into this universe.

Ha, for some reason I read that, "As Carl Sagan said on Cosmos, 'I can't wait to dive balls deep into this universe.'"

This is honestly enough for me. I understand though why people would hate it. Loved Proteus, just a nice game to sit and relax to.

I have a feeling that it's going to be something like that, a game that I don't mainly play but go to for the occasional diversion to see what the amazing art direction mixed with procedural generation can cook up. If you're ok with the game being like that, it'll be well received.

Want the game just as much as I did when it was announced.
Hilarious how many people either dont "get" what this is, or are dissatisfied with what's being shown. They've shown flying, walking, a large variety of animals, robots, shooting while flying, shooting while walking, resources to gather, cataloging animals, cataloging planets, warping, destructable environments, seamless planet/space transition, and several different types/sizes of NPC ships.

I think they've shown off quite a bit.

Looks cool but I feel like I've seen this trailer before. I'll buy day one, but give me something new, seems like they are just stalling or something.

Damn, I wasn't expecting such a buzzkill trailer.

I'm disappointed that they've had to (seemingly) take the Evochron Mecernary approach to planet size. These are basically tiny moons with hills a couple hundred feet high.

And the colour palette. Everything is bathed in 80s electric greens/blues/pinks.

This keeps getting hate for lack of gameplay but eh, we already know what the core gameplay is from the Game Informer leak, though they should probably show that soonish, hopefully tomorrow at PSX. I like the walking sim type experiences especially with the crafting elements so I think this will be fun, though with their de-emphasis on multiplayer not sure how long its legs will be.

They were going for an old Sci-Fi book cover style with the colour and they've said that planets vary in size. They pick out planets/systems that make for a good trailer (ones where the planets are close together or have some cool wildlife on). Just because these seem small doesn't mean there won't be huge ones to go with them.

We've only seen a handful of the countless planets, and they could be picking these ones simply because they are easy to portray in a short trailer, but it does appear that way. But who knows, if this is successful enough the may try and add a second galaxy with more planet sized planets and mountain sized mountains. I really don't see why not need on the tech.

On a similar note, it appears each planet only has a single biome.

There is a bunch of info out on the game. It's not just about "looking at neat things"

I have read the info. What is the gameplay like?

A small team is going to make this game live up to the unrealistic expectations that you guys are putting forth? Very unlikely. Would be amazing but not likely at all. I would love to be wrong but the odds are overwhelmingly against me being wrong.

Look man, do some research before spewing bullshit.

Plenty of info out there and the playstation event is tomorrow.

I am the one spewing bullshit when people are already proclaiming it as game of the generation? Ok

A lot of it looked really similar to the stuff in the previous reveals to me.

Be interesting to see what, if any, actual gameplay or purpose the game will have besides wandering around random planets.

Man really annoying reading so many people saying things like "yeah looks cool but what do you do? Shoot stuff?" COD for the most part is one objective, shoot another player online. This games objective is to get the the centre of the freaking universe. There is a codex of sorts for collecting and Analysis of species, androids/robots that you will have to shoot. Resources to farm, trading and just exploring the unknown.

Read the game informer article as it goes into this a lot more. And frankly I can't wait.

This title can't possibly live up to its proposed scope in any meaningful way. Hate that I sound like such a pessimist but in this day and age I can't help to think a game like this needs a Star Citizen-esque budget to even come close to its promises.

Hope I'm terribly, terribly wrong.

there's an extremely clear and specific 'what' it is, that has been explained in excruciating detail.

If you're confused as to what it is, what the objectives are, how it works, there's a billion articles explaining it in precise terms. There's nothing left to be confused about except 'will it function.'

They are insanely open and at this point I sort of think people are trying not to understand.

If what they explained is all there is to it then this game will become boring very fast. I think people keep asking "what do you do" in hopes that a long term interesting mechanic arises.

Since noone has mentioned this yet - this footage is also 60fps (not stable, but I am not sure if that's just my laptop and 60hz video playback problems).
I've never seen that being mentioned as a target before - so I just found it curious.

I can't believe it took almost 200 posts before someone brought up the fact that the trailer was in 60FPS...

GAF is slacking lol

That tells me we should expect some good news regarding Morpheus support.

You read the details? Unrealistic expectations? I expect what they've straight out told us. We start off at the edge of the galaxy, and the goal is to journey to the center. The closer to the center you get, the more dangerous things get with the environments and animals. There is mining for resources, you can buy ships, upgrade your suit in ways like bettering it's protection against certain hazards, jetpack. You can upgrade your weapon (or multi tool) with resources you gather. There is space combat, ground combat and of course the exploration.

How is expecting that from the game putting on unrealistic expectations? Yes you are spewing BS. It may not appeal to you, and that's perfectly fine... But don't try to go claiming that other people are wrong or "over hyping" the game soley because they find certain things compelling that you might not.

The only people truly overhyping are those who may not read info about the game and just come up with their own vision of how the game will be like. Honestly the crazy part about this game is what they've been showing and explaining to us, the generation, the seamless planet/space travel, and the no loading times. I'm hyped because of the gameplay mechanics around that. Although the generational stuff is really cool, I definitely wouldn't be too hyped if it were literally just exploring.

DAMN! This could be my dream game!!!

One question though: They say captured in real-time. FROM WHERE THOUGH? A PS4?

Dont think they've shown PC yet, have they?

Probably because NMS isn't a game some/many people will enjoy. It's not a game designed to appeal to the widest possible audience. To some people, that makes it a poor game. To others, it makes it sound AMAZING.

This is the dichotomy you are seeing, where half the people are yelling "GET IN MY BODY!!!" and half the people are like "Yeah, but what am I going to do, because the thought of discovery and survival bores me?"

Looks great and technically impressive, but I'm loosing interest quite fast on the lack of details of what your supposed to do other than explore. As frankly that will get boring fast. They keep showing these impressive graphic demos with no meat!

Best thing about NMS trailers is the use of 65daysofstatic's Debutante.

The planets and scale is great too, but I am still wondering what substance will be there other than walking and flying.

And please let us configure greater LoD distance on PC :(

But what I don't understand is that there are games like elite and star citizen that don't exactly have a goal per se but people seem to take issue with what to do in this game... It's not much different. The actual hook to this is actually being able to land on planets in real time and explore. As far as I'm aware that's not ever been done before and for me that's something I've always wanted from a Sci fi game.

So every time I've seen their ship jump to a new location or exit the atmosphere, there's tons of capital ships there. Whose are these? Player-controlled? AI? Is this part of the robot enemy they've talked about? They don't seem to really react to the player's presence at all.

The game's tag is procedural. In other words, the game is similar to Minecraft in how the world generates on the fly. The art direction was specific in the sense of no large and unique textures on disc that would limit the scale of the game.

The universe is generated by the usage of a mathematical formula, and the player is probably one of many variables that affect it. The game's file size won't be anything out of the norm, but the scope, and scale of the world in contrast to everything else will be.

Procedural world generation is definitely next-gen IMO. Doing more with less, I'm totally enamored by how simple the tech is, and how beautiful the game is. Few can nail both. Hopefully the gameplay is as solid.

It looks neat, but I can't get excited for something that is procedurally-generated. It gets real boring after awhile.
Similarly with handcrafted worlds, it gets bring Asher awhile because you quickly find everything.

Also make no mistake, the procedurally generated stuff in this game is a lot more guided in rule sets than say in Minecraft. So far everything they've shown looks like it almost was hand crafted. And for a game about space exploration, it had to be procedural generation.

GSG Flash

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
So fucking hyped for this. Granted, I'm the type that likes to play Minecraft just to build shelters/towers and explore caves, this game was like tailor made for me.

I love the music in the trailer too. It's a damn shame that I'm just finding out about 65daysofstatic for the first time.

I mean the game may suck for one reason or another. We never know until it's out. Though it seems like a lot of people are claiming that people are overhyping it because there's apparently nothing to do in the game except fly around aimlessly (when there has been sufficient info out for quite a while) which just gets annoying.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Joke post, right?

I mean surely, after about a dozen previous threads since the reveal last year, a ton of articles about it after E3 and now the GI article and the two threads it spawned here, you can't actually be serious about this question?

I don't understand some of the hate this game is getting. Everytime I see or read new info I get more and more excited. The Gameinformer info, the BTS video posted earlier today, this new trailer, and the performance by 65daysofstatic has me incredibly hyped for NMS!!!!

Man... I don't know what to think.

I love the concept; exploring the universe and undiscovered planets sounds like something I would love. Finding new wildlife, fauna...

I also HATE minecraft. I hate games with no clear objectives. I think it is a product of being older and having so little free time and patience, but if I don't have tasks to complete or an interesting story, I lose interest -- fast.

I also am very wary of games that try to do many things and do none of them well. The fact that I haven't seen any combat (supposedly it exists?) is worrisome.

I used to have this dream as a kid where you would travel from space to a planet without load screens and explore -- this appears to capture most of that.

I don't know what to think.

Also, they clearly mask distance pop-in with "warping", etc, which is a bummer. I thought it would be seamless.

Music, presentation seem top-notch!

The main concerns I have with this game are from how they said something about planets only having one resource. Maybe it was their wording (maybe i'm remembering wrong, but I know I was disappointed in the moment.) I think it'd be fine if most planets had "generally" one main resource and then some of other resources, but I think it'd be pretty lame if each planet had one resource main resource and whatever other resources on the planet would be extremely scarce. I could see why they wouldn't want too many resources on one planet because then you could just get everything you need from one place and would discourage going to other planets. They just need to find the right balance.

Also, from all of the videos we've seen, it seems like each planet has one biome, which would also be lame. Although there are 2 screenshots, one of a grassy, springy area, and another of a snowy (or maybe it's salt or something) area, and they both have the same planet name. Hopefully there is some decent variety in biomes in the planets.
