Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

Yeh the game looks very impressive. But some people were settings themselves up for disappointment with unrealistic expectations, the gameplay was never going to look the same as that cutscene

I think that it's just that a lot of people were saying it will look exactly like that first trailer and it set many people's expectations too high. I knew that it wouldn't look as good as that trailer if only because of the difference in animation between a cutscene and actual gameplay.

Nevertheless, it's an absolutely stunning game and I can't wait to play it. Uncharted 4 was one of the biggest things that drove me to get a PS4 at launch...just knowing that it was on its way.

They are either almost hitting it and some places not hence the 30hz lock for demo purposes or have decided 30hz is their new target. We don't know for sure right now but the Sony blog and Tweet from Naughty Dog made it clear the demo was 30hz.

If they don't quite get 60hz then fine but please Naughty Dog have an unlocked option like Killzone SF and Second Son and provide the option of a lock.

I feel like it might be that they are running above 30 but not quite near 60 so they just decided to lock it at 30 for the demonstration. That's a fair reasoning I think

How can they have lied if all they ever said was they were "aiming" for 60fps? They aimed for it, and by the looks of the recent footage, couldn't reach it, so they went with 30fps instead.

It's just suspicious for them to tell us they are "aiming for 60fps" so close to this demo that clearly shows they were not even close.

Oh well I wasn't honestly expecting 60fps so it's not a biggie for me. The encounter design seemed pretty great and the area was nice and open. I love the bushes that allow you to stealth after being spotted. Uncharted gameplay is at its best when sneaking around and taking out fools with melee. The shootouts behind cover get boring fast.

The best part in the trailer.

But lets hope it is not a scripted moment.

Its just the rope mechanic....you can see the place where the rope is hooked (sure there will be many places around levels) and the attack probably works like the jumping attack in UC3 where you have to time it right.

But yeah best part, everyone was like woah lol

Yeh, it seems like it.

I wonder how hard it would be to time the explosion of the grenade with the jump, since it was a live demo. Bruce might have basically memorized everything except for the slight hiccup :p

Seriously, looks at his skin and shirt details ,,, this is the best character model I saw on a game.

Yep, this looks amazing to me. I'd love to know how many polygons are in his ears alone. Just an extremely impressive model, with a whole jungle environment to go along with it.

Now bring in some nice cloth physics and day one purchase for me.

Guys i have a queston and i need an answer right now.

Please, please.... don't tell me the entire game will take place in this f*cking jungle ??

Its a fantastic model, but I think Elise from Assassin's Creed Unity is not only a more ambitious model, its a far more detailed one as well.

Looking at the other cutscene in the demo, is seems the models in general aren't up to par with ACU, but this is pre-alpha so god only knows what's yet to be implemented lighting and complexity wise.

Silhouette (adaptive) tessellation is being used by ND.

There are are already cloth physics (for the first time now), look at his shirt reacting to the wind and his older brother shirt and jacket too. Clothes now are no longer simple overlapping normal maps like in the previous games.

I hope the 30fps just means its the most stable build they had at this time and they're gonna keep pushing for 60, they have time

Where I have said 60 fps in TLoU was unexpected at the beginning, please? The level of stupidity we have reached start to be annoying.

Agreed.

Your post looks like you are saying TLOU remaster was only pushed to be 60fps in the last week.
Not that it was the original choice.

I feel that it was a fantastic demo. Yes, it didn't look overly polished and only at 30fps but it's in pre alpha for gods sakes.

I think it was so effective because there was emphasis on points that people regularly make against the uncharted series and this game.

People complained that Nate was a mass murderer so they showed him not going for the kill and moving on.
People were worried about the tone of this game and it looks like the fun, more lighthearted style we have grown to love. This is particularly shown by the drastic change in lighting.
People didn't think this would be real time and I personally think that fall was on purpose just to showcase that fact.
People felt that the platforming was getting a bit old and they add in the new pick mechanic and the added stealth, combined with more lifelike AI make it less of the "corridor shooter" game that it often is labelled as.

Absolutely cannot wait for this to come out.

I don't think it's cloth "physics", could be just a canned vertex animation like in MGS2/3/4/GZ, or that part from Metro Last Light where a guy uncovers a buggy.

I haven't read the thread, but I'm not the only one who believes that the death-glitch was planned am I? I think they intentionally didn't finish the bottom of the map and instructed the demoer to fall to prove it was real-time. But it seems to have back-fired on them...

What do you mean? TLOU wasn't a huge step up from U3 but is considered one of the best games of the generation. U4 doesn't look much better than The Order from the YouTube clip imo, which is not damning the game by any means. Please get off Naughty Dogs dick.

The Order looks great and all but what we'll be able to do gameplay wise on U4 with that level of fidelity, easily makes this the biggest game on PS4 so far. How do you expect to me to be when this studio churns out masterpiece after masterpiece?

Seriously, this gameplay trailer hyped me way more than I thought it would. I mean, it's "just" Uncharted. There's nothing "new" to speak of. But it looks good. It looks fun. And dat ass. It's all I need.

Well, I'm having a tough time deciding between these two shots. Elise gets bonus points for hair that obviously Steve Drake is not going to match, but when I was playing Unity I thought the other models were not up to her standard.

60fps at 1080p still sounds too good to be true. I suspect the game will be similar to Infamous SS in that regard.

It looks really fun though. Definitely picking this up.

If you didnt even find that somewhat impressive I doubt you will have a change of heart when it releases. And on what fucking planet does this look "pretty bad?" Where the fuck am I?

Dust going off the rocks when shot, water effects and the smoke after that grenade blew me away can't wait for the final version!

I gotta watch this vid on something besides my phone. I'm so hyped now. Actually, haven't felt this feeling in a long time. Next year is going to be awesome.

It is not even close...the one on the left looks far better. Lighting is a bit basic on her face, but is there actually any SSS? If there is it is pretty poor in comparison. Unity character's are well below what was shown in U4. Skin shader looks a bit weak. Her hair is the most impressive thing about her...Everything else is not that impressive (well impressive for an open world game to be sure and a big leap for AC).

In metro it is just a scripted animation (juts like a custscene but in gameplay) while in Unhcarted 4 it just continues to interact in the gameplay.

Yeah Ubisoft did a great job with her for sure. The black dude in the "club", the old lady, and a couple other I can't place my finger on are also on par, looking damn near photorealistic at times.

I'd say the ND models look cleaner, with better textures, but when you see Elise and the others in full view with the intricate backgrounds and NPCs still bustling' about....I don't know man, just not seen anything yet on that level of sheer detail (ESPECIALLY the lighting, laaaawd).

Again Uncharted 4 is pre alpha, so let's see how things progress; being as close as it is indicates a fantastic start no?

It's not even close. UC4 blows away Unity in regards to character models. Just look at what you just posted, night and day.
