My friend is at the "bringing Nathan Drake to PS4" panel and here are some pictures (sorry for the bad quality).

Thanks for these, wow Uncharted 3 looks like shit now.

After seeing the updated model, the anime doll eyes are made incredibly apparent.

The scene where the grenade is thrown close so he jumps off the ledge, throws that hook and throws himself at the dude below I grab his gun and start firing at the 2 guys above was epic as hell.

The leaves and plants and lighting are blowing my mind. Finally watching this on my TV and it's glorious to behold. And still a year to polish and enhance this engine. Anazing

I cannot wait for this game, seriously. I need to rewatch the gameplay again. The grapple hook looked so awesome -- I hope there's more tools Drake gets throughout the adventure that build on the gameplay like that.

And visually, man... this game really makes me want a UC Remastered Collection including UC1, UC2, UC3, and Golden Abyss all in glorious 1080p/60 FPS. Shit would look so good and keep me busy until UC4 drops. I really hope they're doing it, it'd be so nice to have in the spring or next summer where there's usually so little games released.

honestly i vastly prefer UC4's style. That scene was my favorite part of the whole demo due to how painterly it looked, and the artists talent shined through so hard it was difficult not to gasp.

I looooves it

I noticed that too when I watched the video, I'd be surprised to find any of that was photo-reference. There's some amazing texture art being done on this game for sure. Even though it's not as "realistic" it looks so good and speaks to the level of the artists.

I've watched the clip several times.

Positives:-
New animations and melee
Has that Uncharted 1 vibe (jungle setting l love it)
Best anti-aliasing I've seen - stunning in fact
Kinda like the rope (Nod to tomb raider)
Like the metal clip used for climbing - makes for more interesting and potentially challenging traversal
A.I move around more and jump (nice)
Real time cut scenes (at last)
Area feels more open and possibly more paths?
Superb sound - guns sounded amazing and great voice work (feels like more variety)
Foliage allows stealth (very nice - Crysis 3 vibe lol)
Thought the smoke was nice
Nice DOF
Liked how the A.I hung onto Drakes foot wonder if they can climb back up??
Faces look amazing - SSS shader??

Negatives:-
Didn't think much of the water when panning around at the start (water fall was nice though)
You can see the grip points on rocks (seems a bit too obvious). Would like to be able to climb anywhere but that's probably too ambitious
30hz (one hopes they are still targeting 60 fps but doubt they will hit it with graphics like this)
Some of Drakes animations feel twitchy
Some rocks in obvious places
Some foliage pop-in - strange this one. On PS3 Naughty Dog use to bring in detail on a polygon by polygon basis (very clever l thought as it was damn subtle) now some of the foliage just pops-in (although rocks seem to draw on a polygon by polygon basis it didn't work with subtlety)
No ambient occlusion??
Needs a little motion blur (can't really tell if it's there and if so it's too subtle right now)
Some frame dips (makes me doubt the 60 fps target)
47 seconds into the clip noticed the holster belt pop/swap/settle in???

It's already pre-ordered since 10 June so day one for me!

I haven't preordered it, but I am definitely getting it on day 1. (preorder closer to release probably). Anyway, your analysis is spot on in my opinion. I have pretty much the same observations. Game looks gorgeous overall and like a lot of fun.

The engine has been done and pretty much solid already. They ported TLOU to PS4 and UC4 is using the same engine. I see the new tricks they have in place: dynamic GI in caves with flashlight and the sphere-intersection based AO for ambient shadows. I don't think they are going to spend the bulk of their time next year optimizing rather it'll be used to continue making content to finish the game.

The most impressive things for me by far are the physics and collision detection. Very nicely done and definitely needed to be a step higher than what we are currently seeing.

Work is never done on a engine so of course they going to be optimizing it more.
Plus people that working on the engine not going to be same people making content .

Here are some info too:

NaughtyDog said that "a considerable time" has passed between UC3 and 4.

"Every single hair moves with wind and water. Hair has true physics, can get wet, move around the head as you run..."

Drake on PS4 has 800 facial combinations. Drake on PS3 had only 120. There's a video down below.

thanks for the info.
wonder if anyone from gaf there that can tell us more.

Yea, i noticed the holster belt jerk as well but I painstakingly scrutinized the rest of the character during the same time and there is no difference. I'd wager it's an animation glitch.

Well, his hair line also shifts at his neck, and it looks like reflections change on the rim of his watch (they all happen at the same time). Might just be a graphical glitch, or some really clever asset swapping (or not so clever). Aside from the shirt going static, there doesn't seem to be any difference in IQ. You have to figure that they are swapping assets at some point though; the video that highlighted the skin on the jaw moving over bone and muscle when the other guy talked, yeah that shit is crazy and it would make no sense to have that level of fidelity outside of a cut scenes; it would be a waste of resources and wouldn't be noticeable. Either way, it looks absolutely amazing.

I don't see why they had to redesign his face. Surely they could used all that new skin and muscle and bone technology without changing his facial structure. He just looks like a different dude now. They Uncharted-3-Elena'd him.

Because the proportions before in the previous models were not true to life. They were always slightly cartoonized with exaggerated features.

Using the same facial structure would hamper their goal to achieve more realistic looking character models.

Downloaded the gamersyde black levels fixed footage. Played it on my 65 inch Plasma. Insane the level of detail. The amount of things Naughty Dog is pulling here is crazy, from the foliage, to the lighting, shadows, physics, you name it. Not sure The Order is pulling as much as U4 with such limited scope.

Need to see some quality footage from RAD and their PSX demo to compare :)

anybody that knows me knows that Uncharted 4 is basically going to be the death of me

I spent like 65 hours in Bioshock Infinite just admiring all the amazing artistic work, and 50 hours in Last of Us lol

Uncharted 4 seems like every little fucking rock is an amazing piece of artwork. So basically I'll never leave the game, one big tourist trap haha

Game is definitely, no question, a disappointment graphically. That first trailer set such a high bar. I'm a huge Naughty Dog fan, but they should've done better here. Sony is General is pretty much shitting the bed this generation, aside from Second Son, first party output has been, and continues to be underwhelming on a technical level. Not to mention just merely good (not saying they've been bad), but far from great. Even LBP3 was flaccid on arrival. I like underdog Sony much, much better.

Its a fantastic model, but I think Elise from Assassin's Creed Unity is not only a more ambitious model, its a far more detailed one as well.

Looking at the other cutscene in the demo, is seems the models in general aren't up to par with ACU, but this is pre-alpha so god only knows what's yet to be implemented lighting and complexity wise.

I think they are pretty comparable. I really love Elise's hair though. I haven't seen any other character model in any other game have long hair that looks that good.

i mean even if you thought it was true they were a disappointment on a technical level so far, The Order pretty much stomps that narrative out :p

What?. You have to be trolling. This game looks absolutely amazing, and dare I say, maybe even better than Assassin's Creed Unity. ..

The only thing I think was lacking in terms of visuals was the introduction area inside the cave. The geometry is relatively simple and it doesn't seem quite as impressive as the vast and beautiful foliage that scours the landscape elsewhere.

Everything else was pretty superb.

Loving these post showing close ups on how incredibly detailed Drake's model is for UC4. Little details like his hair becoming lopsided when soaked by water and his sternocleidomastoid muscle contracting when he turns his head just boggles my mind! Really shows how keen Naughty Dog to the subtle details that immerse you even more into the game.

Shockingly, I haven't play any of the previous installments of Uncharted (only owned a 360 this past generation), so I'm hoping that Sony brings them to PS Now or releases a remastering of them for PS4. I want to be up-to-date with the entire story before playing UC 4.

Thanks for this. Thread was getting creepy with all the talk about mounting naked Drake.

Not really, this is still a terrible post.

Uncharted games have always looked great environment wise... just very consistent. You're not going to get to see model in up close detail during gameplay so why do people care that much? The Uncharted 4 environments really impressed me from what I've seen in the demo. There's a ton of detail and the foilage looks great, especially when Drake moves through it. It's large upgrade over pasts Uncharted's, especially because of the IQ. I also like all the particle effects from the bullets hitting the rocks that Drake is takes cover behind. The water looked amazing too. But, no one seems to care about any of that because of the E3 teaser though, lol.

Plus people that working on the engine not going to be same people making content .

The company works like any other company during a dev cycle. Content gets created and bugs get squashed some new features in the engine get implemented (as we've seen with the physics). Every other game has shown demos over a year before release and most of them end up looking the same. Some get downgraded due to FPS problems, some get upgraded.

...the more screens that are posted of ACU characters, he more obvious it becomes that it is definitely not up to par as U4...They look good, no need to denigrate them, but the comparison is doing Unity any favours...
