Week of December 8th to the 14th, 2014.

Fighting Games Weekly is the weekly discussion thread for all things fighting games. News, events, streams, videos, players, drama, everything fighting game related.

Don't know what to watch right now? Check the FGCPros Twitch Group or Jaxel's Stream Viewer. If you want to watch multiple streams at once, you can use Jaxel's customizable multiviewer as well.

New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

Last week's thread. An archive of previous FGW threads is available here.

On GAF we have various members that stream fighting games from time to time too. If you would like to add your channel to this thread, send me a PM.

Often, some fighting games can seem intimidating to players new and old. Below are a bunch of resources that may be of aid to new players, or handy as references.
  • Learn How To Play Fighting Games Free eBook from Shoryuken is a fantastic primer for new players to the genre.
  • Footsies Handbook is a guide to the potentially elusive, but integral part of doing well in any fighting game.
  • NeoGAF's Arcade Stick Thread is the place to go for questions about anything arcade stick-related.
  • Step Up Your Game is an editorial series by Justin Wong that covers a multitude of topics, notably focusing on strengthening your mental game and playing smarter instead of harder.
  • Tips for first time competitors will help you straighten out those nerves and expectations when you head out to your first tournament.
  • Domination 101 is almost a cult classic article in the FGC, which has Seth Killian telling us how he really feels about the idea of "cheapness" in fighting games.
  • Team-building Guide by our very own Karsticles, which helps make it easier to approach team-building in MvC games, and games with similar synergistic elements.
For a list of NeoGAF OTs for specific fighting games, as well as a list of non-GAF fighting game communities that may be of interest, check out the FGW Archive where these resources can be found on separate sheets at the bottom.

Five Guys is solid, but there's this place called Crave Burger in town that has ridiculously awesome burgers.

Five Guys is a sin man, those cajun fries they make are delicious for cheat meals, however, their burgers are whack. Haven't really found a place that has burgers like the one's on man vs food, one day... one day.... I'll find it.

Also FGW related, I can't wait for SFV, it is looking really good. The links are looking pretty snazzy and heavy. Might be because of sound but Ryu's light punches in the trailer look like they have more frames than in SFIV.

Found a place called SmashBurger near me, better than Five Guys imo

It knocks you over the edge.

Can anyone confirm this Eventhubs translation?

Ono: With that said, we're planning to share another secret detail about Street Fighter V next week, so fret not [as it won't be a repeat]. (Laughs)

...

Lastly, could you tell us more about the concept or unique selling points for Street Fighter V?

Ono:
Right. About that... earlier today we said that at next week's Capcom Cup, we'll be doing a live demonstration with a playable build. I think that once the users see the demonstration, even if they're a gamer who's played a lot of Street Fighter in the past but not so much recently, that they'd love to come back and start playing SFV.

Do you mean, for gamers who previously spent a lot of time with Street Fighter 2 in the arcades?

Ono:
SF2, SF3, SF4... Or any installment in the series, for that matter. Gamers who've thoroughly explored the games in the past, and had been super hooked on it before, I hope they'll look forward to the game demonstration next week. I think they'll likely get very excited once they see it. They'd understand it and go "Ah, I've always wanted to be able to do that in the game."

I think this is my least favourite thing that happens in burger discussions online. Everywhere seems to have this local best burger place that's so good it makes more popular chains suck.

I can't eat it, I don't care.

Holy Chuck in Toronto makes the best burgers in the world though

My burger place can win EVO free, it just doesn't come out to majors.

Late but:

I think most of FGW gave up on Smash already. Xrd comes out for most of us next week.

I still play. I just don't post enough when I do. Also, no messaging so I gotta pray and get lucky I get in a room with someone here if I'm not near my laptop/phone. lol

There are like 2 dozen burger joints in a 2 mile radius of my house.

I never did like you Busaiku.
My jealousy is on another level right now... Being in a poor area is horrible... No diversity and only bodegas for miles to see and chains...

well, melee players yes. Brawl players, no. dunno about PM players.

90% of brawl players I've introduced and had other friends introduce their friends to PM had trouble learning the game during the first few matches. However, they catch on quickly and love the game to death, my circle for PM players just keeps on getting bigger ad bigger even though the scene for it tournament wise isn't as big (at least from what I've seen from the couple of melee-oriented tournament I've watched).

thats cool. I'm glad PM players are liking it so they don't get left behind since Nintendo is seemingly interested in being involved with the smash scene

Thinking it over, I really hope SFV is like Alpha.

I think that's why they made Omega mode to introduce people to what they might be planning for SF5

I've always wanted to OTG in Street Fighter.

I need to start those ranbats!

I just don't want it to be a SFxT-style flop.

you really want air blocking, CC's and alpha counters??? man for me any one of those three with the possible exception of alpha counters would be a huge bummer.

By CC do you mean chain combos or custom combos? Because I want the former, but not the latter.

Isn't air blocking already confirmed?

EDIT: I also like the idea of -isms.

You misunderstood my post, my mistake for not clarifying, all my friends hate Smash 4, well most of them. They'd rather play Melee and PM. Some are still struggling, hoping for the meta to improve throughout the coming months, its a fun game though so it'll garner its audience.
I'd be pretty hype if Nintendo did something acknowledging PM instead of ignoring it but knowing how IP's and business works, that ain't ever happening ;_;

Are you serious about air blocking? God dammit.
