The Order 1886: 15 mn of B Roll gameplay video (direct feed)

I just noticed it looks like that gun doesn't actually go with that holster. LOL

That's kind of neat if the character actually is doing that on purpose as a way to just hold a gun he may have picked up. (maybe I missed him putting it there in the video).

This is assuming it's not a glitch.

Regardless of whether it's a glitch or not, it's a nice catch! :)

I cannot believe a primarily previous handheld game developer has made what is essential one of the most beautiful games of all time. The technique they utilize puts black bars that remove some of the screen space, but it's a pretty clever approach since the image we do have is clear as a result. And the framerate mostly holds incredibly stable, something Ryse - the big XBO visual showcase - does not even come close to doing. On top of that, there is some psychopath AA going on, you can hunt for jaggies and find it if you look hard enough, but it's probably one of the most polished visual presentations in a long, long time, outside of the way Nintendo has been doing it on Wii U.

The character models are astonishing. Their facial animation is pretty good most of the time, but I personally thought there were a few rough patches here and there. The gun battles looked suitably intense, and had relatively decent breadth of options presented to you to take out the enemies. So, linear yes, but decent use of floor space to create an intense exchange in an otherwise inherently limited area.

The QTEs still annoy me, they look as bad as they do in every game. Also insta-kill steath segments be serious Ready at Dawn. Be serious. Delete that shit

I agree. I honestly don't see how the Order is doing anything worse than the plethora of other TPS out there, yet they don't seem to garner the amount of hate for their shooting aspect that this title is getting.
The shooting looks really good too, with several routes for flanking, a variety of weapons to choose from, and they shootouts look suitably chaotic.

I've played other games that have many moments like the QTEs and prompts on screen but with shooting that was far worse than this looks(Tomb Raider 2013). If this can pull off the pacing and story it'll be a damn solid TPS and it's been a while since we got one with very satisfying gunplay.

For their first foray into the genre and their first AAA console title, it looks much better in the shooting department than I ever expected with an excellent setting, atmosphere, and visuals. I loved RaD's approach to storytelling, interaction, and QTEs in their GoW games and much of that carries over here.

I liked what was shown. Except for this auto-aiming section at 8 minutes 40 seconds, but I just noticed that it was a bullet-time effect and you have a bar for it in the bottom-right that drained fast while in effect, which is decent.

They are actually using 4xMSAA?

4x MSAA with a custom post solution to deal with temporal and shader aliasing.

It's not in the shooting or melee department, it looks just as good as GoW and TLOU.

The concerns of the insta death stealth and melee sequences shown are legitimate, but most of the comments are trolls saying "boring" or "generic".

I'm guessing because it looks so mindfuckingly good people want to find something wrong with it.

The stealth section doesn't even look hard at all.

The image quality and the amount of motion blur make me wonder if this could be played at 24fps without noticing the low framerate at all.

Every single pic is blurry just like movie screenshots.

Maaannn, people going insane over the visuals in this footage.

Just wait until February and you see some real setpieces.

it definitely has to be one of the biggest visual generational leaps internally between the space of one single game for a developer.

RAD went from handheld to Naughty Dog watch out, that's some serious ish

I have heard by many people close to the game that some of the breather moments are truly astonishing.

The thing is lots of people expect innovation at each new game. It's simply not possible but they still expect it.

And this type of viral criticism is so selective. Almost every major release these days is 95% recycled mechanics from previous games either copied or mixed and matched.

I mean Uncharted essentially combined two gameplay mechanics with little change, The Last of Us is pretty much a GoW/Resident Evil 4 TPS. Yet they were never given this level of hate.

oh my god cant wait, i also want to see some non combat areas filled with NPCs like those concept arts just to soak in the atmosphere and learn more about the world and lore of the game, it would really improve the pacing.

I also want to say that this, Bloodborne, and Uncharted has renewed my faith in next gen and re-ignited my interest in my PS4, which I was growing remorseful of getting instead of just updating my PC.

Agreed. TLOU is not innovative... at all, yet is still one of the best games I've ever played.

Feel the exact same way. TLOU is hands down one of my top 3 games last gen. It combined proven gameplay mechanics with great gameplay scenarios, an incredible atmosphere and a story that doesnt just stand above other games, it towers over them.

But at its heart it is literally a copycat game.

I have said it before but it feels like The Order is a rehash of the same irrational criticism that plagued Tomb Raider before release.

Yea, they've been developing this engine for a loooong time. It also helps that they have some extremely talented individuals that work there. They've had no outside assistance on the game, everything 100% completely in house.

100% in house tech these days is almost unprecedented. Serious effort on the part of RaD.

Isn't SSM on the game though?

Still got my fingers crossed for areas packed full of NPCs. Desperately want to see the hustle and bustle of alternate Victorian-era London.

This is what's really put me off the game. Those stealth segments really need to not make it into the final build.

.

Do you honestly believe that could be anything but a QTE sequence or a non-interactive cutscene?

Ru said it was gameplay so I will go with what he said so far RAD have been very upfront with what they are doing.

Edited to add.

The way Galahads hair reacts to the wind is absolutely ridiculous. So subtle and not overdone just looks amazing.

RAD will keep getting better and better IMO, this is their first original game and hopefully they will learn a lot from the feedback from the fans etc. I hope the game sells well and gets a sequel.

I also hope they don't sign up with EA or Activision in the future. :p

The camera angle is all over the place for purely non-qte gameplay.

Some short clips when he's facing the monster look like gameplay. Maybe they cut and mix...

You know what. I could believe this is gameplay (mixed with cutscenes - say once you've done enough damage to trigger it, or whatever).

The transition from attack to ducking under the monster's swing is really impressive, almost too impressive in some spots :p

4x MSAA with a custom post solution to deal with temporal and shader aliasing.

Seriously commendable.

They seem pretty focued on building The Order as a franchise so they'll be working with Sony for the forseeable future since Sony owns the IP.

Not surprisingly, the person playing in this footage makes the gunplay and movement look so much better than the off screen footage guy.
