Letter from Bonnie Ross in regards to MCC (Halo 3 ODST SP free to MCC players)

No plans for firefight atm though it seems. Hell I remember firefight being terrible to play on 360. I remember trying to go for that vidmaster achievement getting to set 5. Many times the game fucking up just before that. One time JUST set 5 was beginning to load... So if they do bring it back, just make it run good...again...

Starting to wish I saw this thread earlier. I've had MCC sitting wrapped in my desk since launch but haven't played it waiting for things to smooth over. No free XBL month for me :(.

I guess I get 1 month gold for free even though I returned the game for being broken? Not interested to buy again until they improve coop campaign, which I doubt will be ever as they'll focus on MP

I wonder if there will be more achievement added for ODST. So far one of my favorite parts of the collection is getting all the story, terminal, skull and easter egg achievements. I would assume there would be.

Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT!

So to clarify, Microsoft are 'giving away' a half decade old, last generation £1.59 bargain bin game and suddenly they are redeemed in the eyes of their fans? This lack or accountability is why Halo 5 will be an even bigger travesty than Halo 4.

I haven't played it yet but bought the copy day 1. So that means no ODST for me? :(

Goddamn, I'm in complete shock.

The best Halo campaign is coming to X1. Forever preserved!!!!

If I am not eligible to receive “Halo 3: ODST” for free, will I be able to purchase it from the Xbox Game Store in the future? If so, how much will it cost?

We may share more details in the future regarding the potential availability of the campaign for “Halo 3: ODST” within “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” other than as part of this offer.

Sounds like it's coming as DLC, with those who have MCC getting it free.

ODST is a great way to make things up to the fans!

Dedicated servers for TMCC would be a great cherry on the cake though, the game is super laggy for me.

It's an HD remaster of one of the best games ever released on the 360.

So yes.

THIS 100%.

Why are people acting all happy? The game still has a laundry list of problems. Fuck compensation. Fix the damn game first before throwing more content that probably won't work right at people.

Because:

1) While 343i is a HUGE company dev-wise, most of them are working on H5A. The team behind MCC is comparitively tiny compared to the H5A crew.

2) ODST isn't being worked on specifically by 343i. It's most likely being outsourced to Ruffian Games, who worked on the Halo 3 and 4 ports. (and are most likely having to now divert development time from their own upcoming game, Hollowpoint, to do so.)

3) Not everyone at 343i CAN fix the game. Not every developer is experienced in P2P Netcode and Azure Cloud server technology. I'm quite sure that although there have been many issues, The devs that ARE working on the netcode are working as hard as they can on a solution.

4) Jeez, dude. Free game and a Month of Xbox Live as a "We're Sorry we fucked up, we're working as hard as we can" apology, and it's not enough for you? That's the friggin definition of Gamer Entitlement.. (hell, at least 343i didn't demand you don't sue them, unlike Ubisoft!)

So yes.

But they already released broken versions of some of the best games released on 360. I'd wait to see what the quality of this port is before jumping up and down with glee. If it is as bad as the other games, then it's hardly compensation.

I would imagine the people working on the ODST campaign have not been coding MCC online multiplayer, I can't see this taking away from the initiative to fix problems.

Halo 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ODST for $60 in higher resolution and framerate than ever is a deal even if they had never included online multiplayer. I don't regret my purchase, even though I'm disappointed with them shipping the package with broken multiplayer. It was a bad move, but it isn't worth being salty about.

Depends who is developing.

Will it he Saber? Ruffian? 343 themselves? Or maybe a new contender has appeared!

I'm curious to see whether ODST will be added to the MCC main menu proper or if it'll be a separate app that you can launch outside of MCC.

My guess would be the latter tbh.

Seems likely that it'll be Ruffian handling ODST porting duties seeing as how they ported Halo 3 already. (and both games utilize the same engine, basically)

, however, the re-mastered version of the campaign for “Halo 3: ODST” and the re-imagined “Relic” multiplayer map will launch through “Halo: The Master Chief Collection.” So players will still need to own a copy of the game in order to access that content when it becomes available.
I'd say former.

It's not entitlement to expect a product you buy to actually function as intended. None of what's on offer fixes the game, many people say it's still broken.

Compensation is nice but let's not pretend this makes everything ok now.

Ah yes, the good old fucking gamer entitlement argument again. Oh god, how DARE I expect a game I pay $65 for on day one work properly? How DOUBLE DARE I expect this game to work properly 5 weeks after release (which is still does not)?

Give me a break, dude.

Wait if I didn't play MCC online before yesterday I don't get ODST? I bought the game the day it came out and had to put up with numerous bugs and patch issues. I didn't bother trying multiplayer because of the all issues. Fuck Off Microsoft

If you booted up the game, you get it.

Yikes. If your XB1 was connected to the internet at any point during the last month or so while playing any portion of the MCC, you're getting ODST for free.

Assuming ODST isn't a broken mess (and the rest is fixed in a timely fashion), it makes everything ok to me. frankie can spit in my cheerios for all I care.

i get back the month i lost and my favorite game added to the collection. i don't think they're "redeemed" but i feel less salty about buying a paperweight now.

If you got patches chances are you were online

Goddamn, did not expect this. Well done 343, looking forward to playing ODST.

Now we just need Reach and the collection is complete.

I bought the game at launch but I've never played online yet as I know there had been problems. Am I entitled to osdt? Played single player mcc

Because the game didn't/doesn't work. I was waiting it out. I have a ton of other shit to play.

Just seems weird to me to just take other people's word for it and not even bother to pop in the game you just paid $60 for to try it out for yourself, even once.
To be clear, I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I just genuinely don't understand. Like, the way I see it, if you cared so little that you didn't even find it worth it to open the box based off the word of others, why buy it day one at all, especially given that you have a ton of other games to play?

You're perfectly fine expecting the game to have worked day 1. that's cool.

But they didn't. They fucked up. They said as much, have apologised, and they're working as hard as they can on fixing the issues.

Yet you're acting like they're just sitting on their butts doing nothing.

You just got given an apology by a major game developer, a promise (from said major developer mind you) that they are working as hard as they can on a fix (which takes time, you can't rewrite the netcode for a AAA shooter title in 5 weeks, let alone a day), a Month of Xbox Live (compensating you for the time so far that it hasn't worked), and announcing that they are adding one of the highly requested Non-Mainline Halo campaigns, For free, mind you, in a couple of months.

What more can you possibly ask them right now? And Realistically. No "They Should Haves", because that's in the past. No "I want it fixed NOW", as that's not possible and you know it.

That is what I mean by Gamer Entitlement.

Lol, so it's UNREASONABLE and GAMER ENTITLEMENT now to want a game to be fixed 5 WEEKS after I gave them $65 for them to hand me a broken game? You're a riot, man.

Oh boy, I got an apology from an indirect, unpersonable press release from Bonnie Ross! Yay! Meanwhile, they got my $65 and vacation days from work I'll never get back for something that DOESN'T WORK.

Serious question: do you work for 343? Because you fucking sound like it.

It's not unreasonable at all and the game should have worked on day one but it didn't, so they're trying to make it right in the meantime.

If that's not good enough for you, fine. Get a refund and move on.
