iOS Gaming Dec/Jan: GET

It's still playable (heck, I just spent an hour playing it) but you still feel like it could have been so much more... And I could play that much because there's a launch event that adds 30 energy to the energy bar.
Otherwise I'd be a lot more limited.
Oh, I'm sure it's still fun to play, but one of the best parts about OFDP was when you'd just nail down that flow and you'd just tear through levels flawlessly. And I'd always retry again and again until I perfected a level before moving on. Sounds like with this kind of F2P structure, that kind of experience is lost

works for Gamestop (lol)
Anyone happen to have a spare VVVVVV code from Starbucks? I don't drink coffee... Thanks PixyJunket!

Also, seems like some $0.99 drops are coming tonight. Infinity Blade 3, Goat Simulator, and Terraria

Edit: On sale now for $0.99

Infinity Blade 3
Goat Sim
Surgeon Sim
Terraria

Kingdom Rush Origins also on sale. $0.99 iPhone, $2.99 iPad

Cross-posting from the broken iOS games thread:

Good news, Chaos Rings 2 has been fixed. Whole series is working on iOS 8 now.

It's also on sale like the rest of the CR games, I might as well buy it now. I want to beat it before CR3 is released in English and I'll be playing it asap (before it has a chance of breaking again at least...).

This reminds me that the localization of CR3 hasn't been announced yet, although I don't think that one is at risk of staying Japanese-only.

Galaxy Trucker Pocket is out for those poor iPhone owners like myself who had to look on in envy as everyone raved about Galaxy Trucker
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id947402822?mt=8

And I just nabbed it on Android today (guess it's been out for a few days on it). Awesome game. I was concerned about getting it originally because I wasn't sure how "board gamey" it was, but with the launch sale I figured I'd see what the hype was about and glad I did. Great adaptation and highly recommended.

Oh, And someone was asking about Madout: Metal earlier. I LOVE car combat games and so I decided to give it a go. No it is't the most polished game in the world and has some occassional frame rate issues on my mini 2, but I think it's pretty fun. If the dev puts some more work into it, it could be a really good game. Biggest annoyance for me is that racing is one type of game I actually prefer tilt controls and this doesn't have that option. Still, if you like the genre, I think it's worth picking up for a buck.

I tried searching for this and couldn't find it. Could you please provide the link? I'm just getting started in mobile gaming and would love to know the cream of the crop, thanks.

Excited to see Valiant Hearts for 99c...until I notice that it's episodic (so I presume it's 99c for the first episode only); is the PC version also episodic in nature, or the iOS version is actually a completely different game?

It's also episodic, but totally worth it. Think it's $8.99 for all episodes.

I'd say try the first episode for buck and see if you like it (you will :) ).

PC version isn't episodic. You get the whole game with your first purchase. Actually if you're also into PC gaming, Valiant Hearts is currently $5.99 on Steam

Oh, that's so tempting but as one of the few who don't like Out There, I'm afraid this wouldn't be up my alley either. And it looks even more daunting for the screenshots.
The two aren't that similar. Out There is all about resource management and exploration.

FTL is all about ship to ship combat. It's a sci-fi tactical roguelike with RPG elements. It's basically what Star Command wished it could be. If I had to rank my top 10 indie games of all time, FTL would be on that list
It's one of those games where every playthrough is a thrilling story worthy of a Star Trek episode. Here are two good ones:

Hell, guess my buying spree will continue..

Now, don't get me wrong. It can be daunting. You have to consider your ship's power and oxygen and your crew and manage your shields and weapons. But it's a much more expansive and action-heavy game.

You're directly controlling your crew and targeting enemy systems and making the desperate choice to sacrifice shielding power for faster weapon charging. Or maybe even sacrificing some of your crew when you need to open the airlocks to stop a raging fire, because you're fighting in a nebula and your on-board systems are out

You can do stuff like teleport your crew onto enemy ships, or get boarded yourself. You can mind-control enemies and make them sabotage their own ships. You can swap your medbay out for cloning technology. The list goes on

It's not an easy game, since it is a roguelike.

I'm not sure why everyone compares Out There to FTL because the only thing in common is that they are both set in space.
They are (IMHO) both great games and they work perfectly on iOS but:

1) Out There has a deliberate slow pace, it's about exploration, resource management, risk/reward chance and exploring the story with the different endings.
It's TURN BASED and there is no combat (well...not entirely true but let's just say this).
Each play through is different and you won't carry anything between play through.
The most similar game I can think of is King of Dragon Pass.

2) FTL is ALL ABOUT COMBAT, it's FRANTIC, story is almost non existent, you will unlock things that carry over.
IT'S REAL TIME with pause....basically the core of the game is rearranging power in real time to cope with various combat situations (like fire, hull breaches, invasions...), getting new parts, upgrading the ship to reach the final 'stage' and kill the boss....you will feel like Picard against a Klingon cruiser.

The interface in FTL is very well done and the port is excellent.
Not 'easy' or simple like in Out There, but it's a non issue imho, even in the most frantic part (that's the fun anyway).

One of my strongest GOTY candidates, not only on mobile <3 It's short but incredibly sweet.

Not actually that important
Forget it's a mobile game, how good is Space Age? The screens look so appealing to me, like a Mother 3 meets Lucasarts adventure mash up. But that's just my imagination, I have no idea how the game plays

I picked it up but haven't gotten into it yet. The music is by Panic's Cabel, if I remember correctly. Everything about the game looks/sounds awesome. Just need to play it now!

It's a neat adventure game that's a bit too short. But it's really really sweet.
