I have an iPhone 5s and I'm looking at XCOM. Worth playing on that device or would the controls on the smaller screen something that would drive me crazy?

Definitely manageable. If you're used to the screen you should be fine with it.

Just don't play it on an iPad as well, bc then going back will be a nuisance (my mistake)

Need a game recommendation. I typically don't like playing games on mobile, preferring to play on Vita or 3DS, but I got an iPhone 6 Plus and have downloaded a couple of games: Monument Valley, The Room Two, and 80 Days. I've now beaten Monument Valley and The Room Two (I had beaten The Room back on iPad when it first came out) and am looking for games that are similar in quality and content. I'd also potentially be open to other games, but I honestly don't want anything too terribly involved like some kind of strategy game or something. 80 Days is neat, but there's lots of reading and I don't read well when there's noise and distraction around, which there would be at the times I need to kill a few minutes to play.

So, can anyone think of some recent games that are more puzzly in nature like the two I mentioned that I might enjoy?

Thanks! I forgot I just heard Idle Thumbs talking about Framed, so I think I will check that one out first.

Want to take my first drive into ios gaming, not sure how to go about it. Looking to buy a resonable tablet/pad that is primarly gaming-ready/focused. Want to kick off my experience with the recent SMT port. Will probably want to check out those SE RPGs as well that are exclusive to the scene. Point me in the right direction! Thanks.

Not sure if you are asking for game suggestions or tablets? If you're still asking about tablets, I'd recommend the iPad mini 2. You can find some deals on the 16 GB model and no matter what size you get, it's always at least $50 cheaper than the mini 3, which the only difference is Touch ID for unlocking or saving a few seconds for App Store purchases. Otherwise, it's exactly the same.

You might find a decent price on an iPad Air, but if you want "reasonable", that probably counts out the Air 2.

I'd advise against any of the regular iPads - 3 or under. The 3 is probably good for now but all of them, will start to lose compatibility quicker than the three I mentioned above.

Going to have to fit KR Origins and Hitman Go on my GOTY list. Origins is the best TD game I've played in a while, definitely my favorite KR, and Hitman Go is the gold standard for how to adapt a series for mobile while still staying true to what made the original games great. A perfect distilling of Hitman, with a stylish board game aesthetic

So my new years resolution is to crush my backlog and have a major purge. I am sick of having analysis paralysis when I am looking to play a game. I end up not playing anything!

After having 3 generations of iPads, unless you watch movies/songs I would not get a 128GB. It is like buying a too large house and having crud piling up in every corner.

I am going to clean out my appshopper, both my game own list (about 900) and my wish list (about 500).

I know I am not alone out there!

How can you see how many games/app you have?

I used Appshopper to keep track, but you can see what you actually have in the settings->usage tab.

Think he means everything you have from all time. And settings/usage will only show what is currently on your device.

Of course you have your purchase history but that doesn't give you totals.

I personally think the number of apps/games I have is probably in the thousands. And, sadly, only a very small percentage of those have ever been finished.

I too should make it a New Years resolution to play through my backlog before buying anything else -- but it's too freaking hard with all the new goodies that come along. Would have to stop myself from looking at any iOS forum or news site for the entire year and still probably would have a backlog. LOL.

It's an addiction and there needs to be an iOS Gamers Anonymous.

I'm on the final level of Swords & Poker Adventures and it looks rather insane, twenty plus fights (the large levels to this point have had nine or ten). The worst part is that there's a perfect clone fight before the final boss. The shortest path looks to be thirteen fights before the clone. The enemies are SLIGHTLY toned down from the last few stages (at least the first few), but with that many, it's actually the first time in the entire game where I feel like I'll need to spend gems. Thankfully, I've earned enough gems in-game to buy over twenty refill chips, so I am still going on record that the game doesn't have a mandatory pay-wall.

My closest estimate is my Gamecenter count. I deliberately keep all my games in GameCenter even after I delete for primarily this reason.

So, going back to 2010 and becoming a hardcore IOSer around late 2012, I have gotten +1,200 games

Holy crap, I just looked at mine: 1,826 games!!! And remember, there's quite a few games, especially older ones, that don't have GC.

Saw that Hitman is on sale but then discovered that there is a lot of IAP, which makes me hesitant to buy. Thought you would get the complete game. :(
Okay, dedicated the day to play Hitman and yeah, the IAP is nothing to worry about. Just playing through the game, not even needing to perfect every level, you unlock those packs easily.

The IGN Free Game of the Month is Kingdom Rush Frontiers - we hve both the standard and HD (iPad) version:

I'm having trouble redeeming this on my ipad, if I do it through itunes it says it is already redeemed but if I do it through my ipad it wants me to use the camera to take a picture of the gift card. I'm so confused, anyone else know how to fix this?

Bought it as well. Made quite a few purchases this Christmas since I got my mini 2 a month ago.

Neither of them are working for me either. :(

Could be they ran out of keys? But I remember having issues a month or two ago when Hitman GO was free, too, so I'm not sure...

I'm having a great run on the final level of S&PA, eleven battles complete with 164/208 HP left, two more battles before the double bosses. I did use the free refill chip already, but I was guessing I'd be through two by this point. So right now I'm planning on buying a refill chip before and after the clone battle, but if I can get a few heals in in the next two battles, I *might* be okay to take on the clone without refilling. But I need to have a ready wild card for the clone, as that's the only advantage you can have against that thing. And even then.. oof.

Edit: I beat the next battle and am up to 174/208, woo. If I can stay around there I'll probably be okay for the clone battle as long as I can take the combos over it.. but damn, it might be too risky. I have more than enough gems to not be stingy.

Finally bought 1849 and I'm glad I did. It's an amazing city builder without any iAP bullcrap (well except for an expansion pack that's well worth the asking price). It features a great campaign that eases you slowly into the game and a sandbox mode with quite a number of different parameters that you can tweak. That with the expansion might make it the best city builder on the appstore right now.

Continuing my Swords & Poker Adventures final level sportscast.. the battle before the clone has a Joker in the center spot, I thought about pulling it into my hand to prevent the CPU from using it, but I saw a good opportunity and got two really good heal attacks from it and walked away victorious gaining another ten HP. So I took on the perfect clone at a twenty HP disadvantage and managed to VERY CLOSELY eek out a victory with twenty HP leftover (basically, if my final attack failed I would have been toast).

So I managed a thirteen battle gauntlet plus a perfect clone fight using only the provided free refill chip. SCORE.

The final boss though, his stats are TERRIFYING. 16 - One Pair, 32 - Two Pair, 42 - Three of a Kind and from there it's just ugly. Thankfully, he only has one weapon skill; Discard on Straight and above. That would obviously suck here, but I can block it using a shield four points less than my current one (which at his damage numbers, is too tiny to care about).

I'm pretty sure it's going to be better to bring in my healer weapon, the low attacks do less damage (mostly for One Pair) than my best weapon but go through shields. The high attacks do more damage AND heal, between twenty and forty, depending on the attack.

He also has a recharging Quick Magic, which means I'm probably screwed for taking combos.

My conclusion, either I have the devil's luck or I will need to buy a revive (possibly, frightfully, two). But since I only bought one refill chip (and the gems aren't of much use after this besides attempting a full clear of this level), I'm down for this.

I will take him on tomorrow so I can get a nice achievement on Christmas.

Do you guys think $75 is a good selling price for an iPod 5?

I sold one I got from Apple for free for all the cellular data issues I had with my 5S. It was a 64 GB and new but I got $277 for it when all was said and done (shipping was included). Pretty damn good since it only retailed for $300. And paid for most of my iPad mini 2.

Used, you can start at $75, but I would certainly hope you would get more for it. I'm assuming your talking about Ebay.

Not actually that important

Yeah but don't even consider a 16GB model, waste of money really unless you're only interested in using it for uber tiny apps and using iTunes sync to DL and install your stuff instead of downloading straight to the iPad.

I sold it to a friend for $75. I had originally said $85 but I was feeling generous.

What would you recommend then? I'm just looking to download and play a few games (SMT, Ghost Trick, some Square-Enix stuff).

IF you plan to only use it for a few games, you may be okay with a 16 GB (although some of those games you mentioned can be pretty big). Unfortunately, a 16 GB model probably only has like 12-13 GB of actual space. It that's still enough for a bunch of small games or 5-8 bigger games (some Square Enix games can be close to 2 GB or more).

But if you want to be safe go for a 32 GB. And if you have the money, a 64 GB.

I've been pretty happy with 32 gigs. But I also have had only 8/16 GB phones prior to it. I also have a Shield Tablet so I have more than enough mobile games between them.

I only mentioned the 16 GB model because that's usually the one I've seen some deals on. But the bigger the better unless gaming is secondary.

Wow. He got a deal. Mine was on EBay and it was bidded up from $0 to $277 and $250-$275 was about the going rate for a new 64 GB.

......... How long ago was this??

I thought it seemed like a good deal since the iPod 5's are frickin ancient internally

Edit: Just checked out eBay. Ugh. Oh well. Initially I was avoiding eBay because I just wanted it sold quick and didn't want to pay the listing fees
