iOS Gaming July 2017 | A day late, and 32 bits short

I just can’t get into any survival games like NEO Scavenger, Don’t Starve or any of that stuff. Closest I got was Crashlands. I especially despise the whole crafting element of those games (Crashlands made it bearable).

Neo Savenger is a turn based roguelike. It has strong survival mechanics (dont go to sleep in the rain with no shelter because you'll die from hypothermia in your sleep) but it isn't a survival game like Dont Starve or Crashlands

It's more akin to a Cataclysm DDA in how you can interact with stuff and build your character

It's a hex based roguelike with the brutality and ruthlessness of The Road or The Last of Us

It's a game where you can cover your tracks to hide from and then ambush bandits

Wonderputt got updated with 64-bit and universal support. Always was a cool little game and now that I rarely play my iPad Mini 2, it’s nice to have on iPhone.

Just tried Vista Golf and it’s also pretty nice.

1Blocker seems to be working, finally, on iOS 11 PB3. It’s still by far the best ad blocker of those I’ve tried, including Purify. Seems better at blocking ads while also allowing things like comments to show up. Just my 2 cents.

Also, after reading Steam reviews, picked up Linelight. It’s absolutely brilliant. Gorgeous music and puzzle gameplay that feels like an flowing journey. Highly recommend it.

Into the Dead 2 teased by Pikpok:

Warhammer Quest 2:

Phoenix II has been updated with new ships, plenty of UI and balance changes plus 120hz/fps support and HDR support on iPad Pro. That's the first mobile game to do so.

Wow, wasnt expecting Linelight to get a port. That's a really slick puzzler

Wow. WHQ2? That came out of nowhere! Favorite iOS game ever getting a sequel! Hopefully it's good...

Also, PPKP update!

The energy issues are only prominent at the start of the game. After you've got some time into it, you don't notice it because a given run takes a good chunk of time. I've cleared all the content except the last stage. No idea how to get to it because I keep getting blown away by this giant monster.

WQ2 was announced a little while ago but this is the first trailer FYI.

This game... whatever it may be :| ... is a pretty big development for us relative to our other titles. Looking forward to revealing more.

I got the impression from that teaser yeah, looking forward to it! (And still hoping for Shatter one day :D)

Good luck Mario!

Shame the UI is far too fiddly, just tried it and although it has a zoom feature it's still pretty clunky. At least you can try it for free...

I looked at Mighty Quest using the link above and now I'm stuck on the Canadian App Store, because apparently I have funds in my account.

Why did it let me switch away from the US store in the first place then? Bah.

At least it's just my iPhone.

Edit: Got a prompt to switch back when updating apps. Non crisis, averted!

Some cool looking releases:

Aero Effect by Jundroo, LLC

Time Crash by 8SEC

Galaxy of Pen and Paper isn't out yet so it probably will release tomorrow morning to coincide with the Steam release.

EDIT: And just as I finished posting this it releases, figures.

Galaxy of Pen & Paper by Behold Studios Jogos Eletronicos LTDA ME

Has anyone tried Galaxy of Pen and Paper? Seems really cool

How is this? I know I can just try the free demo included, but I'm more interested in the long term of the game.
You should try the demo. It's a love it or hate it kind of game, since the controls are kind of janky and unintuitive, and don't feel like the best translation to mobile UI-wise. But it's deep and tense and can be quite satisfying if you get hooked past the controls and steep learning curve

Here are some threads about it by me and Toma from a few years ago

I was wondering this as well.

I liked the first Knights of Pen and Paper, but never finished it because the novelty of it kind of wore off. Like the sci-fi aspect of this one but fear the same will happen again.

iOS 11 PB 3 has been acting really weird the last few days. Storage keeps filling up without new things being downloaded keeps getting full. I’ve been having to “offload” apps and it still keeps coming back. Have gotten rid of like 5 GB and the problem won’t stop.

Thought maybe it was downloading a new beta but says my iOS is up to date.

Anyone else on iOS 11 having issues like this?

Have you tried plugging your device into iTunes to see the storage breakdown by apps, music, etc? That might give you an indication of what to look into next.

Edit: If "Other" is taking up a lot of space, try doing a hard reset (hold power and home buttons until your device restarts).

Yeah. actually, iOS 11 shows that breakdown right in the storage settings. There’s actually quite a bit more storage functionality in it.

But it’s “System”, which I think does display as other in the graphical breakdown, that is skyrocketing through the roof. Think it was originally ~10 GB. Today I saw it grow to 14 then 18 and now over 20 GB. Something funky is going on.

Might end up having to try to revert back to iOS 10.3.

Has anyone tried playing stuff like Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape: Torment on an iPhone instead of a iPad? Do they scale their UI at all for the smaller screen size, or do you basically need to have a capacitive stylus in order to play the game with any degree of accuracy?

I'm finally considering getting an iPhone later this year after having an iPad Mini 2 for quite a few years. My Mini 2 has been fine, but I really don't use it that much anymore since it's not that much bigger than a large phone.

They're some of the only games I care about for playing on iOS that are obviously more built for larger screens (I think that recent Battlezone game is iPad only too). I guess I could just hang onto my iPad Mini and have it as my "Tablet" game system, but I do like the idea of having as much stuff as I can on one device.

I picked up an iPad Mini 4 128 GB the other day and I'm excited to finally dive back into mobile gaming. I fell off sometime in 2014 when I got really into my Vita. Storage was also a hassle on my iPad Mini 2 as it was only 16 GB so I'm looking forward to being able to keep quite a few games handy at all times.

I'm planning to pick up Severed and possibly Layton's Mystery Journey (it'll be my first Layton game). But I'm also interested in visual/sound novels I may have missed on iOS. I already have or have played:

Ace Attorney Trilogy HD
Banshee's Last Cry
Corpse Party
Everlasting Summer
Fragment's Note
Ghost Trick
Higurashi
If My Heart Had Wings
Juniper's Knot
planetarian
Steins;Gate
Tears 9, 10

Anything you think I've missed?

Might have missed or forgot about an earlier discussion on this, but all radiangames stuff is gone from the App Store (and apparently has been for months)?

This is devastating. Not even able to pull them up in purchases. I hope they plan to return. By far some of my favorite dual stick shooters on iOS were made by radiangames.
