HOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!

Ladies and gentlemen, can we have a massive amount of applause for Rembrandt, who has replaced in for rukland and become our 27th and final player. With that, we can now begin!

EDIT: Also, a gentle reminder to Subscribe to this thread; it will likely move at some pace now.

Dawn of The First Day
-72 hours remain-

The chandeliers of the hotel atrium cast a gentle light onto an alien and harsh atmosphere. Gone is the pleasant frolicking and copious consumption of alcohol that had been the past-time of the holidayers these past days in Sicily. Instead, desperation has set in. The tourists begin eyeing each other - tense, nervous. A piece of paper is torn into scraps, and each person handed a pen; ready to write a name and cast the ballot that will lead to the death of one of their number. As a present reminder of the need to be right, the severed head of Crab, the Irresistibly Sexy Australian Tourist, stares over them with sightless eyes.

Day 1 has begun. Day 1 will end on Tuesday 13th January at approximately 23:00 GMT.

Poor Crab, I hardly knew thee. You guys generally seem alright. I don't know how I'll ever cast a vote against one of you.

not much from the first day. usually just gotta kill someone the first day and hope we can take some info on who dies/does not die during the night

RIP Crab

Wouldn't it be better just to no lynch the first day and move the game along, then to pick someone at random to kill?

Don't discount the idea of lynching on the first day. It's true that you don't have much info to go on, but the way that people vote can help get the ball rolling with evidence to use to prove whether someone is innocent or not. The town needs that kind of info to put pressure on potential mafioso. Otherwise, we'd more or less be relying on our power roles getting info from how their actions turn out.

Well, funny story, but I've been in a bit of a similar tricky situation before (it was a while ago, in a little village in rural Russia), and there was a guy who actually wanted to die - that was his idea of "winning" this whole twisted game.

So, if there's anyone here like that, well....we have to be careful not to kill them. But with so many people alive right now, our chances aren't so bad.

That's usually referred to as the fool role. Are there any neutral characters in this game?

I have to agree that it might be best to vote no lynch since we have nothing to go on. But we may as well talk for a while just so we all know each other a little bit better.

Aww, c'mon. You gotta lynch day one. Sure, we have nothing to go on, but by no-lynching we are relying on a power role to give us some info the next day. Lynching gets the proverbial ball rolling.

Of course, maybe those saying to no-lynch know this and are mafia scum...hmm.

While my first impulse is to blindly lynch, the odds are more likely that we'll kill an innocent tourist.

But we should be proactive. And that means cracking a few eggs. We can't sit around and have mafia pick us off one by one.

I'm curious how many mafia there are. There's at least 2....and probably not as many as 17

so somewhere between 2 and 17, lol

In the few games I've played rule of thumb was 20% of players are mafia. Five seems reasonable for 27 players.

Crab seems to insinuate there are some special roles that will only be revealed after a players death or the game ends.

I really did not sleep very well last night. Dat Agent Carter premiere.

What was everyone else doing when Crab got decapitated?

So many shifty figures already... Crab was a most kind hearted fellow, did not deserve this.

When Crab was getting decapitated, Palmer, I was eating a most delicious meal at the Hotel Diner. At least, I think that must have been the same time... who knows the exact time when Crab got decapitated?

Do you know, Palmer?

Just a reminder to AbsolutBro, Duress, El Topo, Mattyg, ultron_87, Xpike, if you happen to be viewing this topic, be sure to chime in with thoughts, no matter how little they are. Inactivity does not serve the town well. At best its deadweight for the town, and at worst it's a possible sign of scummy people not wanting to reveal themselves.

I'm here.

RIP Crab, we barely knew ye. :(

I'm not really sure how to go for lynch vs no-lynch. Statistically, we are more likely to lynch someone innocent, OTOH, if we really do have about 20% mafioso, we need to get them quickly.

Was he though? I mean it was his idea to bring us all here, if anything he should shoulder some of the blame
lol metajokes

I'm not sure where I stand on the no lynch. I mean we could get lucky and manage to get a mafioso, but we're more likely to get a tourist aren't we?

EDIT: Oh man Absolut, you've made me realise what OTOH means. I've never really thought about it before now.

I dont know about lynching first day, we're gonna kill one of our own, but I do agree if we dont turn some kind of screw in the first phase its wasted.

Unless we have additional information, are we not always more likely to lynch someone innocent anyway? The only problem I see is the same that we will always have, mafiosi working together. We will only be able to uncover those by looking closely at the discussion of lynching (and by getting additional information from other roles). The more voting rounds we have, the easier it might become to uncover similarities in the process (i.e. spotting suspicious behaviour).

From what I see experienced mafia players tend to not lynch on the first day.

But I love a good mafia lynching!

Well I will use the rest of the day to visit the beach. Who will join me? We can talk about crab and how he influenced us all in our lives.
I will buy something to drink to make it more appealing for you guys!

Pretty much yeah. It's advantage Mafia if you lynch round one, as it means you lose 2 -3 tourists minimum night one plus whatever other functions they can perform.

I gotta be honest, while statistically a bad idea for tourists, lynching usually means the game ends sooner, for better or worse. Which means we can start another game!

I've never played such a large game though, nor one where we didn't know what the roles were.

What is the absolute worst thing that could happen if we blindly lynch?

We could kill our cop or doctor (or whatever other power roles there are), making it harder for us tourists.

Also, the mafiosi know each other, so in case of a random lynch they can all agree on voting the same person to get the bandwagon rolling.

It's less fun but I suggest not lynching anyone on the first day. Unless someone has a better idea, of course.

That's a little surprising. In my IRC and internet forum mafia experience, I've almost never been aware of all the roles.

Depends on where you played, probably. In most of the games I played we knew the roles beforehand, or at least how many of which alignment were around (like for example in a 12 player game, you'd know that there were 8 villy-sided, 3 maf and 1 neutral).

But being completely in the dark is pretty interesting too :)

Same here, only played it as a custom starcraft 2 game, where things went on a lot faster than here.

I will defer to reason than.

I've always played Werewolf, and always in person. 10-16 people generally. We always knew the roles because the moderator would be picking them on the spot, and explaining them to any new people in case they drew one. Don't have the luxury of PMs explaining things in that kind of game. Not to mention every active role has to be announced when it's their turn to wake up.

This feels a lot more random without knowing what's possible, but I think I'll get used to it.

Are mafiosi able to communicate via PM any time, or only when they're picking someone to murder at night?
