Halo |OT 23| Thruster is Love, Thruster is Life

Just had an awful first game of the day on Pegasus, woof.

Red team didn't leave the top stairs area the entire game, didn't see any way to break it with radar active, lol.

I WAS semi-pro, not sure what happened with the switch between early access and the beta but the patch fucked me I'm pretty sure. So not sure what you mean by git gud...

Nice contribution though.

My complaint was me having a 2.0kd nearly all 10 of my games and only dropping 2 and getting Gold 1 when the people I played against were Gold, Onyx, and only a few qualifiers.

git gudder

This is what I'm afraid of for release. Ranked games will be nothing but this gameplay and unranked will be dongfests..

Nottttt looking forward to motion tracker for full release when coupled with Halo 5's sandbox of increased range and more powerful weapons.

Oh my god Spartan Ops is such a piece of shit. Played the first mission on Legendary and it's just infuriating almost. What were 343i even thinking? Gah. It has no redeeming qualities at all.

/repressed memories :lol

Now imagine if you didn't have to worry about motion tracker displaying your every move to the enemy and could be more creative in your approaches.
I actually enjoy no radar more than radar matches. It makes things more intense and allows for more stealth. It also gives more ability to the individual.

I can also see the potential advantages though.
For one it can be useful for seeing teammates and if tweaked properly I can see it being a skillful ability (like the tagging ability I proposed).

Usually nerfing something is bad in video games, especially a first person shooter, because unless the thing is completely game breaking meaning there's literally no counter to it at all, the mob decides it's OP and protests for a nerf. Hell, the HCE pistol to many people today is still considered OP, but it's not. No matter how you explain it, show video proof, show pros playing, show stats, etc, people will still call it an OP weapon. Why? Why is the HCE pistol OP? Because it can kill in 3-shots? Ok, the avg Halo player, how many times can they actually land a 3-shot kill consecutively? They can't and won't because their level of skill aiming-wise, just isn't there, over time they probably eventually will, but the avg Halo player's level of skill isn't there.
One thing some people don't seem to consider when mashing the NERF button is that unless you want to tweak the rest of the sandbox (though this holds true to most any adjustment), you risk making the weapon either ineffective or flat out useless. Nerfing should be one of last suggestions imo.

It's not really round based though.

If a team wins an arena they advance forward a step, if they lose the next arena they move back to the previous arena.

The single life per arena thing would make it move a lot faster. The biggest worry I have about it would be having a match stagnate, with a single arena going on for too long. I think it could definitely work with unlimited lives, it would just be a much slower paced game.
Ohhhh...

Okay yeah I thought you meant that the zones were captured all in one round and it was a content push. You would win the round by pushing your zone to the other side. So there would be territories you fought over and once you captured the territory it would expand your zone.

So MCC still doesn't work 2 months in.

With the MCC, I had one hope. That it was all of the games, together on one disc, working right out of the box. No patches required. I wanted to be able to put this thing into my console ten years from now and have it work flawlessly. As a re-release of something, I figured 343 was up to the challenge.

I've got a better shot of getting my 360 working in 10 years than of playing MCC again.

That kinda is how I thought it would work.

Think of Battlefield's Rush mode, expect replace the things you have to blow up with territories and make both teams attacking and defending at the same time. In Rush when the attackers win the defenders' spawn points are pushed back and the attackers' spawns are pushed forward. In my idea it can go both ways. It's kinda like a tug of war, except pushing instead of pulling.

Obviously if you had a single life per arena it would have to be round based, but that was just a thought. I quite liked the idea of a dynamically moving battlefield. You capture their zone and move forward, they capture your zone you retreat.

Usually I can get what you're saying, but I disagree with this quite a bit. The nerf of the AR has less to do with the fact it's a beast at low to mid range, and more to do with the fact that when scoped is ridiculously more accurate and deadly over hip fire. ADS on the AR promotes camping style gameplay. Maybe you're a higher tier and don't see it, but most of my deaths started to become people just waiting and watch motion tracker while sitting scoped. Coupled with stabilizers, the game is rewarding them for turtling with a spray and pray gun.

The CE pistol used a lot more skill in OG Xbox to use. The AR here especially with scope uses very little. Just point and hold down trigger. Chances are, if you saw them first, were waiting for them, you're going to get the kill. Even more so if you have SMG.

You've gone off on a wild tangent of assumption for some reason. I've probably been top player or positive for almost 20+ of my last games. I honestly don't give a shit if I drop neg bombs, if I was out shot or out fought. I routinely get out worked with the BR by better players and I see clips from guys like Funk and Ram and know they're better than me, but nothing grinds my gear more than some guy just hiding with AR scoped for some reason. I feel as if it's a cheap kill. If they keep spread and damage/TTK the same as hipfire for AR/SMG, I wouldn't care as much.

So your issue lies with the AR and SMG having an increase in accuracy when they're ADS?

I don't know if many know this, but the BR and DMR have the same mechanics applied to them. I stood at a wall around mid range and shot the BR unscope for any entire clip. Moved over a few feet, shot an entire clip in-scope...the spread was much tighter scoped in, same goes for the DMR, I did the same test.

I don't mind the AR and SMG getting accuracy boost when ADS, because when they're shot, they get descoped, but what I would disagree with is the default COD-style controls where if you just keep the LT down, you automatically get placed back into scope when fired on. I've seen countless kill cams where this is being used...so the penalty of getting descoped doesn't do much in my opinion when holding down LT negates it.

This post at gaming side makes me cringe:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=147044855&postcount=10330

AR+BR starts is an improvement over sole BR starts, but my favorite was by far the AR and Pistol spawns. The Pistol is a weapon that is high risk reward and pretty fair, while the BR is a powerful weapon ranged weapon. I don't want Halo 5 to have BR starts. I'm saying that flat out. If it does, it should be contained its own play list. Halo is boring when its 8 people running around with Battle Rifles and not scrounging for weapons on the map. The best part of the Halo 5 beta was the initial days when teams were actually sticking together and working together to control parts of the map for weapon spawns and/or high ground and cover. Since BR starts were introduced its the same old, same old Halo, which is still fun, but gets boring and frustrating quickly.

I pray 343 do not cater to these people.

The beta is more important I guess

Sure seems that way. MCC was just a contractual annoyance, a market imperative for the parent company's hardware sales.

Could you imagine the MCC debacle ever being allowed to happen to Halo 5 proper? Can anybody here envision a situation where Halo 5 doesn't work 9 weeks after release? They wouldn't let it happen to their baby.

It would kill the Halo franchise.

Much like how I predict Battlefield Hardline is going to flop in sales due to the bad launch of Battlefield 4.

Franchise ends there. Microsoft would not be able to turn that disaster around come Halo 6 if they stick to a 3 year dev cycle. Consumers would look to other yearly franchises (CoD) and never look back at Halo.

HLGNagato, who happens to be a Halo 3 and ODST speedrunner, plays The Covenant on The Ark. Previously he played The Covenant on Floodgate...

How does this even happen?

Ranking system blows. I've been blowing kids out of the water for days now and I'm still stuck in Bronze 3. My KDR is 2.10 and I've won nearly 50 games now. The system is broken. Or maybe it's just working.....as intended.

I threw about 5 clips together and am just waiting for XboxDVR to have the video and then I will post it for the montage. You can tear the clips apart if needed.

Anyone here think the rockets need a faster rate of fire? I'm not digging the delay between shots...and I know that puts more emphasis on aiming correctly in the first place, but I feel like it's a step backwards with there being a delay between shots.

You need to be able to fire the rockets faster when exiting an ability like sprint/thruster/clamber.

I hate the ROF and how long it takes to reload and pick them up. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the rocket reload animation moves your screen around.

Yeah, the 19th I think. I should probably play some more of it but I'm completely addicted to Unity at the moment. This game is faaaar better than everyone claimed. Loving it.
I was actually doing some four player coop in AC earlier. Very fun. And the DLC is coming out soon so I've been slowly finishing up the story these last few days

But yaar. I should play a bit more of the beta before it finishes, I suppose. Just need to get a group or something together I think. No fun alone

If only there were more Spartan IIs left...

It'd be funny if you could customize your multiplayer character to be a Spartan II, III, or IV.

Then have the Spartan IIs just cross their arms and glare at the camera/their overexcited comrades on the victory scenes.

I knew I wasn't going crazy about the rockets. Sometimes I hit the trigger and it doesn't fire, requiring a 2nd press, feels very janky overall.

Slight change of plan re: Montage - if people could PM me links, that'd be great. I often read the thread on the train or at work, and I don't want to miss any clips.

I'll accept throwaway triples if it's all you got. I do want the best content, obviously, but I also want everyone active within HaloGAF to be involved.

Will happily accept clips from Frankie, Tashi and Josh too...

;)
