America not getting regular size N3DS, confirmed.

But the XL is better in everyway. At least the OG 3DS compared to the XL. I have both, definitely N3DSXL for me.

I wonder if this is due to something as dumb as America having no (official) point of reference for the Super Famicom/Euro SNES button colours?

You guys ever thought rhat Nintendo marketing realized that the regular 3DS don't sell as much compared to the XL sizes?? America loves "BIG" so Nintendo catered to the majority. Can't blame them for selling the most popular SKU.

Kind of pissed about this. Worried about the low DPI. Which is already pretty bad on my OG 3DS in comparison to my iPhone6+, Vita, or 4KTV.

That said, I still just bought the MM Edition.

You guys are nuts for not thinking NOA would pull this BS.
Reason why I want regular size over XL is because it probably won't fit well in my pocket. :/

I'd be surprised if they don't release it eventually, but the sales data probably tells them that only a very small niche would have been interested in the smaller model.

Such a shame that the nXL doesn't have faceplates.

A delayed launch, after the XL, shall kill it dead in the water, regardless.

This is so incredibly fucking stupid, it beggars comprehension.

Everywhere else gets it?

Seriously?

I can't even muster the fucks to give, anymore, Nintendo.

I understand the retail store concerns completely. If the 3DS XL sells and the 3DS doesn't, then it makes sense to only offer the N3DS XL. What I don't get is why they don't also offer the N3DS from an online store. Sure, there are warehousing concerns, but it couldn't be that big of a deal.

Not including an AC adapter is bullshit, but then so is using anything other than Micro USB.

Count me among the people that would would have preferred the smaller version for streetpass and image quality reasons.

Reggie is president of NoA, idolised to no end for seemingly no reason then makes decisions like this and gets away with it?

Reggie was instrumental in this decision and everyone knows it. I don't really get the massive amount of respect he commands

Was he? Dude is just a figurehead as far as I'm concerned. He's not the guy that said "You know what? NA doesn't need an XL." It was probably a business decision that most of NA already buys the XL and the costs they'd save from only having one NA model outweigh the loss in sales from not selling the n3DS. Half the people here reacting "I'll never buy one" will be changing their tune eventually.

Well I'll tell you what makes me mad about the no AC adapter thing. When I moved last year, I lost my 3DS adapter in the move. Went to Gamestop and the the only one they had was $20 ones, which I would not buy simply on principle. The big box retailers didn't even have them, I ended up getting one for $7 at a local game store, but the point is they're not always easy to find. Around me anyway. Which didn't even make any sense to me.

At the very least they should allow Nintendo fans to order a regular n3DS direct from Nintendo. Similar to the Ambassador deal in Europe.

NOA sucks, what else is new?

Didn't have any intentions of buying this, but it sucks for those that did, and wanted the more compact system. Why not give people a choice?

Region locking finally making a huge impact on part of the western world.

I hope a serious anti-region locking movement springs from this.

I was conflicted about getting one of these because I figured a new handheld wasn't too far off, but no regular size makes it much easier to say no. Lame.

it's funny for all the ways that nintendo has screwed up, not releasing a console with faceplate and colored buttons that is not likely to sell in the non-niche market is the last straw for some people

I feel like a huge chunk of the goodwill that Nintendo won back with their recent string of Wii U games will be evaporated by this boneheaded decision. I think we'll look back on this years from now as a huge Nintendo blunder.

I swear this company just searches online forums and does the complete opposite of what their fans want. It's really fucking bizarre.

Fuck you NoA. That's it, I'm going to learn Japanese as fast as I can. I can't deal with more of NoA bullshit.

I never, ever consider replace a working unit for a revision. The first time I really want to get one, you do this to me.

Sorry, I'm not giving their marketing numbers the benefit of the doubt after all these horrible decisions dating back to how long it took to get the wii RPG over here

Go to Amazon and search on 3DS USB Charger. They cost about 4 or 5 bucks and they allow you much more flexibility than a wall charger.

I'd be OK with this if not for the FUCKING REGION LOCKING

If I want a non-black Vita, I can just import one from Japan and it will run all my existing games.

Fuck you Nintendo.

Ever since they hired reggie NOA has been out of touch with there fans i want the fucking regular new 3ds. All well ill import one from japan and use gateway to remove the region lock.

Especially considering that Iwata is CEO of NoA now.

Honestly, just when you think Nintendo starts to listen and actually care for their dedicated fans, they go and pull something like this.

Forget the fact that the regular n3DS isn't coming to NA for a minute - the fact that they're selling an electronic device without a power adapter is just confounding. I mean, honestly, how many people are going to purchase the new 3DS XL, go home, unbox it, only to find out there is no power adapter?

Wait..... what?

So those Famicon/PAL SNES buttons still won't see the light of day in the US.
That is a shame though. It kind of matches the rumors Nintendo had production issues, and they decided only XL for US.

Not likely to sell in non-niche market = available in every other territory globally?

No, he was absolutely instrumental. As President, no decision as important as that one doesn't happen without his direct involvement. Corporate groups like NoA aren't democracies. There wasn't some vote in a board room where Reggie could put his hand up as a dissenting opinion.

He was a party that ultimately decided this, and it's anti-consumer, let alone stupid.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Ha! Well I guess I'm not buying Day 1 anymore. Nintendo got to Nintendo.

The GAF market is very small and weird, you see. Nintendo is not considering them and judging from the hilarious invective around here, I can't say I blame them.

I can't even remember the last time I was this disappointed by them. This was literally the worst move they could have made this year. If there is some kind of petition, let me know so I can sign it. I'm already sending them tweets and email, and encouraging you all to do the same. I'm not buying this XL shit. They need to know they are losing sales.

I have an XL. Time has revealed that it is too heavy, and the nature of it being too top heavy, the most uncomfortable combination. I never want to play it too much because it is laborious, and that is the opposite of what a handheld should be. The screen size is also unnecessary, and often more easily reveals dithering and stretches out some fonts. Furthermore it is just a bit too big to be carrying in my jacket, so I only have it in my bag. The smaller size would open up options.

This is also a no buy for me now. The XL is just too big to be considered portable for me and I don't want to give up the sharpness of the tighter PPI of the smaller screen on the regular version. I was liking the colored buttons ala EU and JP SNES pad as well.

I just don't understand this, if "confusion" in the market is the case they would have stopped selling the original 3DS as soon as the XL came out if people can't tell the difference between a clearly packaged and labeled NEW version of a console on a shelf from the older version. Although the iPhone 6 and 6 plus seems to do fine without confusion.

I am very dissapointed in Nintendo and NOA for this decision especially considering there will be games that can only played on the new version. If this was just another revision I wouldn't care as much of a lack of sizes but seeing as it isn't I just can't understand the reasoning.
