NPD Sales Results for December 2014 [Up2: Nintendo Sales Notes]

aHF0k3t.png

Not sure what their expectations were but from what I've seen it seems like Infinity 2.0 is under performing.

Again though not sure what Disney's expectations are so I could be wrong on that one.

Consider me very surprised. 2.5 opened pretty much exactly the same as 1.5 then. Serve me some crow.

I wonder how the heck NA is the only region where KH didn't fall far off from the first game.

Isn't KH hugely more popular in the US than any other region? IIRC the first game even outsold FFX there.

Edit: I mean way back on the PS2, not the recent HD remakes.

Surprised KH2.5 did so well. I'm holding out for the eventual PS4 version :)

That FFXV demo could be a pretty big deal as well. Also its on the current gen systems which are pushing more software right now then last gen.
Since you work at gamestop, do you know if Type 0 HD pre-orders are doing well?

Very nice sales for Captain Toad. Hopefully it has decent legs.

Kingdom Hearts has always been most popular in the US, so it's not that much of a surprise. See also the vastly different performances for Dream Drop Distance between Japan and the US.

I might remember it wrong, but didn't the PS4 sell something around 4 mio. units during the holiday season? with ~1 mio. for US, we got like... 3 mio. for the rest of the world? That's actually well balanced. And japan is a lot weaker this gen.

Seems like the Xbox One has a good run, hope we will see a lot of cool games this gen, might dip for one too (after I rebuy my Wii U and n3DS).

True true, I almost forgot about the XV demo. And yeah, the next gen systems pushing so much software can only help. Type-0 could easily open up higher than much of the recent FF releases (X HD, XIV PS3/4).

Doing solid enough for what it is. The CE's are sold out so that's a good sign. Not going into specifics sorry :-\

The best selling version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare couldn't reach the million mark.

Just two years ago Call of Duty: Black Ops II sold 2.7 million on Xbox 360 and 1.7 million on PlayStation 3.

CoD drop is big, still managed to dominate US retail market. What a strong franchise.

Thanks a lot for the info Cream! Happy for Toad's success, smart move to release it on the holidays at a budged price.

Cream my man, any chance of Bayo2/Hyrule Warriors/TW101 LTD?

I was under impression DDD and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 were the same game, just the 3DS version.

Been out of the KH loop since Chain of Memories/KH2.
1.5 is the first game, Re:Chain of Memories, and a compilation of cut scenes from 358/2 Days (the first DS game)

DDD is a brand new 3DS game that takes place after KH2.

Black Ops 3 next year will help alot.

Next gen only though from what I heard so that will be an interesting thing to see in terms of sales numbers.

Anyone have LTD sales numbers for Destiny? NPD? WW? Retail or Retail + Digital?
I was surprised to see it was third in NPD sales for all of 2014
thx

I meant the region specific drop compared to the first collection. 1.5 sold much better in Japan than 2.5, no specific numbers for EU but 2.5 didn't chart nearly as well as 1.5. Considering it was 2014 december+PS3 exclusive I expected it to drop quite a lot in NA like it did in Japan where PS3 is still alive. Can't underestimate the fanbase I guess.

So... what are they going to do on 360/PS3? I can't see Activision leaving all that money on the table...

Well...........here's the last thing I heard about that title. This was back in about August though.

It looks like Treyarch were pushing for / wanting current gen only but that Activision was looking at doing all 4 platforms still. They were going to gauge sales attach for Advanced Warfare to make their final decision.

This could not be 100% accurate as of now though so take it with a grain of salt. No idea what direction they finalized going in.

EDIT: Also I'm assuming its BO3. I was just told that for Treyarch's title this is what they are looking at. The name BO3 wasn't explicitly said.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Nirolak, you wanted stats for Toys-to-Life category.

Bloomberg article below:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2015-01-16/disney-stakes-claim-as-leader-in-toy-to-life-kids-video-games.html

Disney said data from researcher NPD Group Inc. showed U.S. sales of the Infinity franchise increased 16 percent in November and December from a year earlier.

Activision Publishing Chief Executive Officer Eric Hirshberg disputed the claim, saying Skylanders “continues its leadership position as the No. 1 kids video game franchise globally as well as in the U.S. by wide margins. As the creators of the ‘Toys to Life’ category, we are thrilled to continue to lead it, in the face of increased competition.”

The Skylanders franchise as a whole was 30 percent bigger than its nearest rival in 2014, Hirshberg said, and the latest version outsold the competition by 17 percent worldwide.

Disney said it sold almost 1.2 million of the starter packs to its most recent version, Infinity 2.0, in November and December, an increase of about 10 percent from a year earlier.

In essence, Disney Infinity numero uno in US market; Skylanders numero uno worldwide.

Next we'll have Disney Infinity 3.0 with Star Wars (the final trump card this decaying series has) and if the Star Wars fanboys don't come through this series will be brought to an end. Meanwhile, Nomura's masterpiece will continue to sell and thrive under harsh conditions.

Interesting that both of the top 10 software lists don't have a single ps4 or xbox one exclusive.

Goes to show that so far this generation exclusives don't matter but price and marketing does.

It would be better if we got individual top ten.

AW is a good game, but the movement has put off a LOT of people. All that people want is the classic call of duty gameplay. The giants maps and instakills of Ghosts put people off. The increased movement put off even more people that stuck around after Ghosts bombed.

Activision just needs to make a Black Ops 3 that doesn't stray off from what what made every CoD before Ghosts a success. I'm sure that Treyarch would like to make a WaW game, but it would be terrible timing to pick now to go back to WW2.

Promote Captain Toad to General Toad for those type of sales. Best selling month for Wii U was led by Captain Toad!
not really but Toad kicks ass.

Top ten has been looking the same since forever now, minus a few new games.

Safe, familiar, boring and predictable. This is the mindset of the mainstream consumer.

I swear, Minecraft hasn't moved off of the top ten since its release on the Xbox 360 back in 2012. It has the longest legs in the game industry.

It's nice to see that this is the Wii-U's best sales month in its entire life cycle up to this point, though. Even if Nintendo didn't have any games in the top ten.

After 14 months:

Wii: 7.4m
PS4: 6.7m
XBO: 6.2m
PS2: 5.3m

Next month, the PS2 (at 7.3m) will finally cross streams with the PS4 (and the Xbox One again).

PS2 holds the record for home consoles* second December for at least another generation with 1.95 million. Wii did 1.35m.

*Overall best second December is GBA with 2.1m.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

But Nintendo has games in the top 10 if we take individual sku even more so looking at creamsugars last post.
