Nice.

As awesome as this looks, it's bordering on absurdity isn't it? The poor schmuck's body obliterates into a pulpy mess from a single shotgun blast.

Mortal Kombat X

edit: beat twice omg no why

Are you guys 100% sure it's Mortal Kombat X?

Creaking

Also, I love how Galahad aims at the guy's elbow, the guy is partially behind cover, and yet he still gets blasted skyward into a million little pieces.

After pre-ordering this game and then cancelling twice I'm gonna go ahead and pre-order again for the third time today. Man I haven't flip-flopped on a game so much in my life. One minute it looks amazing the next a complete mess. The recent footage has finally sold me on it though.

Great news on going gold. At least you'll have time to print up the disks for a world wide release unlike Techland with Dying Light. Hope the game reviews as good as it looks.

Stop. Pre-ordering.

Can't wait for this game, preordered the collectors edition at Best Buy for 60 dollars. I even forgot I had done that since it was so long ago with what I think was a pricing error

The studio clearly has talent. It just seems some poor design choices may make the whole thing mediocre. Sound alot like evolution and driveclub in a way. At least before all the patches.

Ill probably be buying this just for the graphicszomg. Did the same with DC and in the end it turned up pretty good. Hopefully lightning will strike twice.

BTW the marketing for this game is bizzare. They have yet released a single screenshot that isnt from either a trailer or gameplay video...

It's all but certain at this point the media will absolutely savage this game.

It's what they've done for Infamous: Second Son, and I think Killzone: Shadow Fall as well. I think it's mainly about trying not to spoil anything, and I can't blame them for that.

That is what the combined power of 3 shells, Shoulder prep and the almighty Tache power will bring..nothing can withstand it!

Pre ordered it yesterday from Playasia along with Man of Steel blu ray, cant wait :)

By the way, does anyone know if the Japanese version of the game has English auido/subtitles? ?

The game is only 49.99 for the japanese version, but 59.9 for the US and Asian version.

Right? Like what the hell happened to walking into the store on the day and doing everything in one simple transaction?

I pre-ordered because if I walked into a store and bought this the day it came out, I'd likely have to pay £12 extra than the online deal I got. If the game turns out to be absolute ass then I can always cancel my order and not pay a penny in the process.

Every single screenshot from the order is taken from a video. The exact same scene. They are pretty much screencaps.

Infamous and KZ didnt spoil much yeah but they both had screenshots from scenes that you couldnt find in video material.

The gore in this game looks amazing but the guy getting shot with the shotgun and flying up instead of backwards is glitchy and breaks immersion imo.

Well Damn

You know I really don't understand why RAD chose to make Werewolves the only supernatural enemies in this game.

There is so much rich monster lore they could've pulled from.

WHERE ARE MY VAMPIRES DAMN YOU!

Seriously, why not put more monster types in this game? Was it a budgetary issue?

Watch the making the Lycans video, it is strongly suggested that there are other types of half breeds.

My concern is the AI......looks a bit dumb! I hope it will all work out!

I will be playing it on hard first run through to see what the AI is really about. Andrea suggested doing so was the best way to play the game.

3 Shotgun shells assuming slug at that range would have a pretty similar effect.

You have a problem.

Or any game at all for that matter, in my experience at least.

There's this newfangled downloading thing the kids are doing. Apparently it has infinite copies. Not sure how big of a store you need to do that but my cousin said he just gets them on the line? and doesn't need to do any preordering or waiting in line. I'm like 80% certain it's devil magic, though.

Been looking at that for ever, ha.

I think it's both. Like we've seen before, I think where he's hit is blown to pieces while the rest of the torso is blown upwards and to the right, you can still see the upper and left portion of the bloke's body intact, and I think a foot hits the ground at the end. The rest is chunky kibbles.

Yeah, but how are they going to include Vampires if they havent been present in the universe up till now? Seems like a glaring omission.

If they exist, they should, at least, make an appearance in this title.

Without knowing the full storyline/cinematics, who is to say that vampires are not mentioned along the way. We may not see them but their may be talk of them during the game.

What poor design choices do you think are going to make this mediocre?

What poor design choices do you think are going to make this mediocre?

I'm not going to answer it from the perspective of 'mediocre', but I can see how there's potentially some design choices that can be a 'minus' point for some reviewers.

Level design:

This was a quote from Ru (from the Verge):

To fix that, he took a team of around 25 people to London for a week, where they spent their days walking the streets, getting a feel for the layout of the various districts. After a week, two dozen people came back to Ready at Dawn with 150GB of reference material and a much better understanding of the city they were building. "The most interesting thing was having designers and artists walk those streets and making them realize how claustrophobic certain places are," Weerasuriya explains. "You don't get that in a lot of places."

There's a possibility that in trying to keep to a realistic feel of London, there might be places/levels that are purposely tight and claustrophobic to ensure that it feels grounded and real to the setting of the game. Unfortunately, we live in times where games that are 'linear' are 'bad' because muhopenworld muhsandbox.

On the whole 'QTE' nonsense...

On a fundamental level, I get what RAD is going for. Making cutscenes be interactive, so that there's rarely a time where you just put down the controller and watch. Adding engagement to stuff that was previously 'oh, normally you just watched it, but now you're engaged with it."

However, some of the 'critics' response to interactivity in cutscenes is well... not positive. For some reason or another, it seems to get a lot of focus, as if it's a major part of the game, even though it's just making things that was previously just 'watched' to 'interactive.' And even then, I feel like not all the implementation is well done. I don't feel like they should've made the 3,2,1, countdown be individual button presses.

Lastly on the narrative elements of the game, and its impact on the 'forced-stealth/hand-holding', etc...

It's clear that The Order is a game with a very strong focus on narrative. The game clearly approaches the moment-to-moment gameplay focusing on ensuring a very believable and strong consistency of how things flow.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that the game never 'breaks' the flow of the game's logic. Narrative ensures that the game is structured around what happens before, and what happens after. And that potential lack of sandbox-freedom in gameplay can presumably be off-putting to those who want complete gameplay freedom.

Eg. I fully understand why the forced stealth section in the airship was there. Because immediately after the stealth section, there is a story section where you reached the location undetected, allowing you to play sniper. The game clearly doesn't want to break the logic of having the dissonance of 'oh, you got detected, but it's okay, we'll pretend like it never happened', and thus the insta-fail, because the narrative dictates you stealth-ed the section successfully, no questions asked.
