GM: I hope so. I hope the presence of The Gentry will be more clear. For instance, in the Captain Marvel comic we have dozens and dozens of Sivanas, so they can represent Demogorgunn, as they always appear as some kind of horde. Or Demogorgunn could be the zombies in issue #2 or the Superman robots in issue #3. Because they’re demons, they come in different forms in each world, so I do hope when it’s finished, yeah, you should be able to look back and find a lot of new stuff and hopefully, that’s way it’s been built.

Okay, fine, I started Brand New Day again, and I guess it's okay. I do tend to like Spider-Man stories where he's broke and everything, but they're kinda borderline trying too hard. I mean, he ripped his pants for comic relief. He lost a web shooter for a couple of issues and then... found it. Like what's the point, just to drive home what a sad sack he is again? I'm to the part where Lily and Carli are in it, Lily's dad is running for mayor, and there's a blizzard. It's okay I guess. It's better than I thought.

I don't really like McNiven's art, though, and I don't think I like Phil Jiminez anymore either. I liked him as a kid, but man. The clothes everyone is wearing look like it's 1988. And I'm not crazy about all the zany little editor notes everywhere trying to evoke Stan's charming little touches.

And what the hell is up with Jackpot. I know MJ wasn't his wife now, but she was his girlfriend and he "almost married her". Even if he hasn't seen her in a year, how can he not be sure if it's her or not? Because she's wearing a tiny mask? Whatever. So forced.

But I do like what a consistent flow the overall storyline is, and knowing there are some storylines coming up that people seem to hold in high regard has me optimistic.

I just started the Chris Bachalo issue with Wolverine in it though, and... Why is Spider-Man wearing a Yankees jacket? I always figured he was a Mets fan. He's from Queens, after all, and he's a sad sack underdog.

EDIT: Okay, Google says that Spider-Man is very clearly, well documented to be a Mets fan across various decades and media. Everywhere from 616 to The Electric Company to ASM2 to the "real life" depiction of Spidey and MJ's marriage at Shea Stadium in the 80's. Way to fuck it up, Bachalo! Lol.

Somewhere on the internet (I think CBR?) there is an interview with Morrison where he laughs about how similar the first issue of Multiversity is to what Hickman was doing in Avengers at the time.

You said that comics have caught up a little bit more to the story -- interested to hear a bit more of that, and how you view the story's place in the wider world of comics in general.

I think especially since Marvel and Jonathan Hickman's been doing this big sort of Marvel "Multiversity" story. Our first issue opens with the DC characters meeting the DC version of the Marvel Universe -- so there's now this really weird thing happening, where everyone's doing versions of everyone else's characters meeting somewhere. [Laughs] So the world kind of caught up with that one. We've got a confrontation between our own Justice League and "The Retaliators," this kind of version of the Avengers, in the first issue. It's almost as if it's happening at the exact same time as Jonathan's doing his book.
There are a couple of things that I notice; some things that Kurt Busiek's been doing in "Astro City." His latest "Astro City" stuff's really great. He's doing some weird meta thing, and it's almost a little bit like one of the books. So it kind of feels if I don't get this out now, it's going to be old news. [Laughs]

I just read the issue and I didn't see it in there, so unless it's one of the 7 unknown universes, it's not part of the official multiverse. Justice Lords universe is Earth 50, though.

Aja's art is too good for me to get mad. I'd rather have a good looking book that takes a while to come out rather than one done by a quick and mediocre artist.

Also, I'm always for the original creators working on as much of their story as they can together. Don't think anybody else can do what Aja did for Hawkeye, and I'm just happy that a finale is coming from the team.

And Xavier didn't come back...Eva Bell brought a younger Xavier to the present with her power. I suppose this could all just tie into the upcoming Secret Wars stuff, but I expect that the younger Xavier will go back in time and do something to stop the super-powerful new mutant from fucking everything up or the mutant himself will find that he can resurrect people by the end of the story.

Yeah 30k for the top spot, 10k for second and 3rd/4th got 5k each. They are getting contract offers to keep putting up work on the site. My score certainly stopped going down as soon as the deadline hit, so yeah, I'm pretty sure some people were just down rating other peoples comics.

I did see what exactly went in to winning it! Here are the breakdowns.

10% of the whole was based on popularity (theres a popularity and ratings ranking, this was probably a composite of them)

90% then goes to the judges who judge by

40% Artistry
40% Creativity and Originality
20% Ability to hit deadlines

to create their scores.
