I have the game pre-ordered and will get day one; however, these impressions are startling. Gaf impressions I find most honest so my guess is this game is gonna get shat on by the press, drive-club style. IMO, of course.
No love for Lafayette? He's the character that jumps out at me most.
Swaaaaag.
Yeah you can see that here

That is not usually the case for most games. When it takes them million years to make a product, that is the least I would expect.
I'm a few hours in, and I've gotta say this game is a playable movie. That's precisely what RAD intended this to be.
It's almost like a point-and-click adventure game built on TPS elements. The levels themselves aren't levels, they're "sets" where the scenes you control play out.
Finding easter eggs and collectibles don't feel like such in the traditional sense, because the game is so strictly linear and paced and scripted.
There's very little in the bit casual/spontanueos exploration and findings.
If you're okay with sitting along, doing some solid shooting, taking in the artsyle, getting some damn good dialogue fed in, then you will like it. If this restricted form of storytelling videogame offends your free spirited nature, or your idea of game design or...*cough* next-gen game design, then steer clear.
But, it's clear RAD's poured their souls into this. It really does show. It just feels like an old times videogame that happens to be the best looking/most stylish thing you've ever seen.
If you're looking for a bullet point to add to your argument of whether or not games are an art form, this is it. The grace of this game's presentation puts most films (and games) to shame. Ironically, with its old fashioned take on interactivity and player agency, it vindicates the medium in its own way.
I'm sure anyone who's foreign to videogames will take a look at this and say, "well, that's how it's done."
Great start by RAD. They're showing great potential.
Gripes ahead:
It feels a little fluffy on back story so far. It's asking me to take a lot of things at face value as far as the presence of lycans goes, and the history of the Order, etc. It still doesn't feel solidified. For something that strives to be as grounded in reality as possible, the conflict doesn't feel that tangible due to the lack of proper exposition thus far.

How many hours so far? And you are playing on medium right?
Just finished it this moment, played it on hard.
I always change the setting before I start the games for the first time.
How many hours ? I don't know exactly i think it's around 12.5-13.5 hours.
No way near the stupid rumors that plagued the developers said.
Cant shake the feeling it ended right away once the game actually clicked together.
I'll write down my final impressions in a bit.

But the impressions in here have been very good...?
So I'm guessing a medium playthrough would be 8-10 hours. Par for the course.
Definitely playing on hard. Based on what people have shared with me on PMs. Hard makes a big difference to how fun the gameplay is[/QUOTE]
You know sir, The Last of Us felt like a whole new gameplay experience for me when I played it on Grounded for the first time in the remastered edition. Will hopping into The Order on HARD!
From what i have read over, the impressions are mixed at best, with negatives coming on the gameplay side of the coin. Is what it is. Can't wait. Looks dope! But the impressions in here have been very good...?

Also, don't be so liberal with the spraying; the shootouts play out with a little bit more strategy than you'd think due to enemies flanking you and suppressing you, especially if you run out bullets.

Huh? Are we reading the same impressions? From what i have read over, the impressions are mixed at best, with negatives coming on the gameplay side of the coin. Is what it is. Can't wait. Looks dope!
Obviously it's weird how opinions differ, because how Rapier described the game is almost exactly what I wanted from the game:|
That's not what I wanted from the game, at all. But I saw it coming from miles away. Oh well.
Only Gaf impressions, bud. That is my home, where the gaming elite thrive. Gafs opinions are the only ones that matter. Savvy?Mixed at best?
What threads are you reading? Link?

How is any of that different than most other 3rd person shooters?:|

I am cool with this. It is not even close to being as offensive as something like Heavy Rain. What I have seen has some great looking gunplay, mixed with more interactive cinematic moments and it looks to be blended together quite nicely.
The graphics are gorgeous, but kind of inconsequential to me.
The story has to be phenomenal for this to be considered a success, and some of these early gripes have me really worried.
Little short for my tastes, might wait to pick it up. Can't see this getting average scores, I can see it getting upper 80's metacritic.
Very excited, I'm sure it'll go down in price rather soon after launch so I'm not worried.

How would you say the game is overall? well worth picking up?
Wobblebottle is the new MGS2 trailer. This was posted in earlier pages in this thread, dropping it here once again to those who are finding the wait painful!
Heh sounds like Drive Club.It is for me. I'm a sucker for well produced games, and this is so laser focused , I can't help but commend it.
Like, I just said on the previous page: it's definitely not for everyone. It's an old timey game, in that it creates opportunities for you to play and intertwines it with narrative, but its novelty is that it maintains its film like presentation and production throughout. That is, it's always looking stunning.
I can see it definitely drawing a lot of snobby "archaic game design" criticisms.
Fair criticisms, though. Everyone's got their tastes...
But what's here is pure quality.

agreed on the review aspect. the length though is fine for me,get bored of games that feel like they never end.

oh some reviews are going to be a blood bath. DC was old timey too in that it was just a distilled racer and that didnt pan out well with many reviewers.
