What will be February's biggest flop?

So your premise is all those people who thought thought there was no way Destiny would flop were proven wrong because of your personal opinion.

modern video game opinions in a nutshell

dammit, not worthy for top of the page...

The average number of reserves for the game across 4,200 stores is nowhere near that on average. Not even close.

The Order should do well enough for what it is, and if it reviews well and has good word of mouth it can be big.

As of now though I'm not convinced it will beat Evolve in NPD. Though it might.

Multiplat vs exclusive is not really a fair fight. It doesn't have to sell as much to make more money though.

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
Best games of the month so far are Besiege and Darkest Dungeon, both early access games, one a kickstarted game.

Goes to show focused, small scale development continues to produce exceptional games while big studios release middling stuff that costs 50x the budget to make.

However Monster Hunter 4 is absolutely excellent so far, so what do I know.

Really this is the level of hate it's getting now? You seem like a sad little person.

Wow the fanboys are out in force. I might seem like a sad little person to you, but thats only because people like you tend to project their sad pathetic existence onto others.

Think most people already said it, RE:R2 is showing signs of being a disaster.

I would've otherwise have had The Order pegged, but it's not exactly a flop; graphics aside it's just going to be overwhelmingly average.

Sales - Evolve
Critically - Order 1886

1886 will do great, lot of bored Destiny players looking for something to play and Evolve was a bit of the same thing (multiplayer FPS) whereas 1886 is very different.

I doubt Kirby will do even close to Toad or Bayo 2 numbers, everyone who owns a Wii U is going to be too busy waiting for or playing majora on their new 3DS'.

I think Battlefield Hardline in March is also going to hit it out of the park sales wise and get panned critically, its coming out at a perfect time with little to compete against.

Kirby. Maybe I'm just outside the sphere of Nintendo's marketing, but I hadn't seen or heard a peep about it until yesterday - when I saw a related image here on GAF.

So which is it? Is the order getting a lot of hate or not? Thats what i meant when i said that most people are panning the game not necessarily saying it will sell poorly. But expecting some basic reading comprehension out of some of you is just waiting to be dissapointed.

Most people are panning the game?

Yeah one more vote for Revelations 2.
I'm just not seeing much hype, and with it being episodic I can see a lot of people just waiting for the whole thing.

The Order will do fine. I'm expecting mixed review but Sony has been investing in advertising the game, plus it's one of the first high profile Ps4 exclusive in quite some time

Ask the 10 or so people on this thread nentioning all the hate the game is getting.im done playing games with you.

Hah, with me? This the first time I've replied to you.
Someone's a little touchy.

Little tip for you, pay more attention to the impressions of people that have played the game rather than those who obviously haven't and probably never plan to. :)

Have a feeling The Order could get an 80+ MC score and sell 3 million + copies and daft people here will still call it a flop.

It will be this year's Destiny.

I never made any sort of judgment on call on those people. I dont see whats so hard to understand here.

Someone claimed the game isnt going to flop because sales. I said that it seems most people saying it will flop mean that it will do so critically. They dont seem to like the game.

Result? Fanboys attack.

Thought I was dealing with adults here. Guess not.

Mate, you need to take a deep breath.

You said the game was getting panned by most people. I questioned how you came to that conclusion.

Anecdotally using comments in this thread from people who were probably never interested in the game to begin with isn't really a good way to back that up.

Nor to dismiss people buying the game as buyers ignorant and naive about the quality of the game - or to swiftly reduce logic to drought or whatever excuse resonates with the agenda being pushed when evidence of success pretty much suggest the opposite. It's like blindly denying reality - "accept my rethoric - ignore the real world".

"I think everyone is saying the game is going to suck." - WTF is that? The people who invest $60 of their hard earned money (not rhetoric on a forum) right out the gate tells you all you need to know about how isolated that negativity is and the expectations of people going in - in other words, positivity. But logic is nowhere to be found and will never be found, even if vindicated by review scores - which are still not predictable, nor is it inclusive of the masses but a select few who write about games for a living - an opinion, educated opinion in some instances, nothing more, nothing less.

Now the real question is why is he still hellbent on writing about the negativity surrounding the game, specially after a ban for blatantly trolling/hating on such game. In defense of opinions, trolling is an opinion.

My thoughts from the clips released =P

They never have failed ME but people is different so what I may find enjoyable other would find boring, I am keeping a eye in it mostly because when I buy my PS4 later this year I want to buy some games with it and The Order looks like a good introduction and the story bits they have released seems interesting. Maybe in your case the better is to wait like a week after release to gather impressions from other people and reviews.

Edit: And DON'T limit yourself with only OT and Impressions threads, seek more opinions from other places since OT and Impressions threads can act like echo chambers that would hide things that you later would find annoying =P

I haven't been in the spoiler thread so I have no clue as to the details of the story. People seem to be enjoying it so far and I haven't heard any complaints about the story from the impressions I've seen.

There's impressions in this thread if you look at the more recent pages

Thanks!

I don't have PS4 now, but when I do get one in a year or so, I will pick it up if it turns out to be good as I like shooters with a good story, and it sure has caught my eye!

This is 100% true, and you never know, Order could end up being pretty big. I actually think critical / consumer reception to quality on this one will be very important. A lot of people I talk to are somewhat waiting to see how it plays out in terms of game quality. If it turns out to be a great game, who knows how it will perform.

I simply responded that way due to someone mentioning that massive stack of games is the number of copies pre-ordered at a location. I was simply clearing up, that this is not reflective at all as to the quantity at your average store.

I'm so proud of February, normally we get nothing. The Order, Dragonball, Evolve this month was better than almost every month last year.

Does anyone know how big RAD is? From the scattered threads on the board, I get the impression that it was a pretty small endeavor. I'm not sure how well the order needs to sell to be profitable.

Same with the new kirby.

Does anyone know how expensive these games were?

Well, Evolve is on multiple platforms so I imagined it would probably beat out The Order. Or are you only speaking with regards to the PS4 sku?

The geniuses at Namco decided to launch Ace Combat + alongside Monster Hunter 4G and Majora's Mask.

It was never going to sell great, but they might have just sent it to die.

I think people will be pleasently surprised by the order. I think Kirby won't do well and I think RE will do pretty decent sales wise.

If you have been paying to most threads about The Order you know there will unfortunately be many hoping the game fails. Hopefully some salty crow will be served in a few days.

Honestly I wonder if people have this thing against games that don't try to "innovate" or some bullshit like that.

It's like, people people want diversity in gaming, they want more choice of games. Yet say a game tries being cinematic, somehow that is bad and they wish they were doing more "regular" games. Which is funny because that sort of behavior is doing exactly the opposite of what they want. They want more types of games, but will fight against any they don't like.

At least that's how I've been seeing it.

You are accusing me of being a fanboy when your the one wishing a game to fail because it's not of your liking. Instead of doing what most grown ups do when they encounter something they have no interest in and ignore it, you hope it fails.

It may be a flop in some regards, but do we know how much the game needs to make? Since it's a "plus" version, how much does it need to recoup the costs? Is it a low budget release?

Sales-wise I think Evolve will be the biggest disappointment. Kirby won't sell well at all but it's a WiiU exclusive so I doubt expectations were that high in the first place.

In terms of sales, I think Evolve will do reasonably well but its performance will disappoint Take Two. I imagine they'll be expecting 4+ million sales and it'll probably come in around half that. I bet it's had a pretty big marketing budget too, and probably won't hold a very large community after the first six or eight weeks.

In terms of literal sales, I don't think most of us even realised there was a new Kirby game out soon, so that will no doubt crash and burn.

As for The Order, anecdotes seem to suggest it's enjoying strong pre-orders. I think it will do well for a new IP (3-4 million) and the average review score will be between high 70s to low 80s.

Have a hard time believing the order will outright suck. Sales should be OK. Above drive club anyhow.

Revelations 2 would be my pick for critical disaster.

Sales: Evolve, which will hopefully serve as a lesson to 2K.
Critically: The Order, which will review like other mediocre Sony franchises where IGN and PlayStation Website 367 give it 8-9 while Eurogamer, Edge etc. give it 5-6. It'll sell well regardless because people are starved for first-party support and ooooo shiny bauble.
