Maybe it's for the better. Once this chapter is over Team ICO can start working on something else.
And that goes thru the Last Guardian Cycle as well.

I'd love a statement on this. C'mon Shu :(

I love how people forgot how FF XV happened.

It's not dead.

Except:
- We still got a bit of info every now and then. Mabye a pic of the character or a comment on some of the game design, even short trailers every few years

- Square was still releasing other games. At leas they were honest about only having a small tem working on Versus while the rest of them worked on FFXIII-2. They at least had a bad but valid excuse: "We are focusing on another project right now". It's not like we are getting other Team Ico projects

How Sony has talked about The Last guardian over the past few years is a joke. Everytime some asks about the game they insist the project is "moving forward" and they are "hard at work on it". "Oh but we can't talk about the game, we can't show a trailer, we can't show a single screen shot, we can't show you some off screen early alpha footage, we can't talk about gameplay details or even show some new concept art..... but it's absolutelly not cancelled and we are hard at work on it"

They dropped a nonsensical subtitle and added XV because oh shit we need to come up with another main-line FF game and we don't have another 6 years to do it. It's still called Final Fantasy and that's literally the only thing that matters to the audience.

If you can't see the extremely obvious and relevant differences between the two situations, you are beyond reason.

This is Sony's Half Life 3-if people are consistently desperate for it it keeps Sony firmly in their minds and Sony purchases a temporary alternative.

Unless things changed in the last 4 months

Japan Studio is no different. There was a known problem, which is why they had a change of management. They also need to find their foundation, build some projects that can be lasting, and also have an impact. Once The Last Guardian is out the door, what next? It can't just end with that. This is the moment to attempt things and aim for something different, which can also be successful. There is a strong workforce there, and they can certainly build big projects, they just needed focus and guidance. Not everything has to be small like Knack.

Sony has so many other interesting IP that I wouldn't even care too much if it disappeared. Ueda should start working on something that's going to come out in this fucking generation. It's been two now.

Yeah Versus/FFXV things have been shown over the years. Also gameplay. Since 2013 we've seen a shitload about FFXV and the demo is next month.

TLG didn't really go beyond a trailer we weren't even supposed to see.

All Yoshida has been saying is 'i've seen it, its still alive'. But what he has seen has never been made clear. Then Ueda was booted or left, and they said he'll stay until TLG is finished. I don't get it at all. This means he left about 3 years ago, but hes still on their payroll for.. squat?

All this time has been a waste. They could, you know, scrap it way back and work on something different and release it by now.

It's not dead. They said it's still in development. Why would Sony lie about the game's state? What would they gain from this? Far from rational to constantly bullshit people.

I seriously don't understand why the president of Sony Entertainment would say that the game is still in development and coming if it was indeed dead. But maybe it is a recent decision from Sony. The game has to be dead, because why would they change the name, The Last Guardian is already a perfect title.
