If your opinion is that the The Last of Us was "rather bad," then I think I can, for me personally, disregard your opinion.

Thanks for the impressions though, how long did it take you to finish?

I don't think he's played it himself lol. He said from what he has seen, presumably watching videos online.

It genuinely does look like a good game, "fun" if anything. Not sure if I will pick it up right away as still have barely started Dragon Age inquisition, 50% into Res: Evil and just at the beginning off Dying light, so yep, im fully booked!

Thanks for the reply. I haven't played Gears of War 1, but sounds like a good mix. Still undecided whether or not I should get it on Friday.

The game might be the best looking game ever released on console and the sound design is outstanding. If that's what you're looking for: Buy it.

The gameplay is very "traditional". If you're not burned out on Gears/Uncharted gunplay and if smart AI and unscripted events aren't at the top of your list of things a game has to have: Buy it.

Otherwise, wait for the reviews. I have a feeling this game is going to be very polarizing.

Haha, oh man. Gameplay impressions from watching Youtube videos are my favourite.

I also see we've once again reached the point where TLoU had "bad gameplay."

I'm actually getting this form both Youtube playthroughs and what my friend said abotu the game. Which isn't much. Just about the shadows and the scriptited and very limited destruciton. He thought the weapons were going to be abel to demolish stuff, based on the previews.

Wow. WTF is this? Bizarro world.

I guess by now everyone knows if interactive movie game "x" is somehting they want to pay $60 for or not.

Well, maybe not everyone. My friend got it early too.... and let's see... yep, he's right now playing Darkest Dungeon on Steam. Figures.

You really do like to play with fire dont you.

just wow :\

Uhm no. All I said was that given what reviewerts had been saying and early videos, that I'd skip the game and probably watch it on youtube.

I was banned because I ticked off the people in the thread for saying that,a nd some moderator too I guess.

Kinthalis you clearly have no desire to play this game whatsoever, so why do you continue to try and stir the pot.

Move the fuck on.

What am I doing wrong now?

Not allowed to share my and my friend's impresisons, in an impresisons thread?

what impressions, it sounds like your using his/her actions with not actually playing the game to further your "opinion"

this thread continues to deliver. ban stalker discussion lol.

EDIT: my personal play time for the order now consists of game time + at least 10 hours of neogaf thread goodness. 10 hours of this metagame is worth it. game is already goty contender for me :p

So obviously some of the stuff a lot of people were thinking with this game are graphics and destruction: the early demos showed off some building explosions with the thermite.

So far, from what I've seen, the graphics are pretty damn good. The materials based shaders look pretty amazing. Shadows are so so. Most are baked, but the dynamic ones are solid, rather than softer the farther away from the oclusion, like from a last gen game, some are aliased, and some kind of appear and disappear feet away from the camera. The mesh quality - the hair for once! All really nice. The character faces look outstanding as well.

Destruciton is super scripted. With half a building coming down in one scripted spot, and then firing the same weapon at a nearby windows does nothing.

Even the incredibly basic puzzle elements aren't really puzzle elements at all. They just want you to move up to some "thing" and hold down a button. Then "puzzle" solves itself. Like someone thought of a way to engage the player, and then someone else completely gutted it, 'cause fuck no, we don't want the player engaged.

Really, the "Gameplay" in this game is laughable. And I thought the Last of Us was rather bad, well it's a friggin Bioware RPG + a telltale game in comparison to this. The only actual gameplay are the short shooting sequences, but they are like something out of a COD campaign 5 years ago. Shooting galleries, with scripted events. You cna almost see how things trigger the moment the character steps over some invisible line.

I think the length is fine. How much more insta fail QTE's could a person take?

This thread is for impressions from people who have actually played the game, not watched it on YouTube.

hahahahahahahhaha you're the worst troll there is, can't believe you just got off a ban to come and post "impressions" of a youtube video and then give us some bullshit about your friend playing another game, WTF.

Because it's good at what it is? I'm tempeted to stop watching and borrow it from my friend. Which is weird. I don't like the "gameplay" but something about it justd raws you in. The characters, the world. I don't know.

I'm critical because I think it could have bene a lot more than just cinematic game x.

:
Maybe there should be a bit more of a clarification. This thread isn't just for people who have played the game. But it is not a thread for people who haven't played the game to talk about assumptions which might confuse the matter. If people are interested in certain aspects of the game, they are free to engage those who have played it. If people want to draw conclusions based on the impressions, they're fine to do so, be it positive or negative. But like anywhere else, we discourage trolling, low effort replies, metacommentary, and dishonest engagement.

I honestly don't understand how one could hate an unreleased video game of all things, that they've never even played, that much, that straight after a ban they'd come back to criticising it in the same context they literally just got banned for. It's baffling. Oh well. Are there any more GAFers who got the game early?

My friend owns it. I don't.

People relaly get defensive over this game. I don't understand why. I don't think you'd get this much hate if you went into a lor dof the rings thread on reddit and screamed: "THE EAGLESSS".

I LIKE the game. Well, I like elements of the game.

And I think I'm going to just play the damn thing now. I like the world, I liek the characters. But the decisions by the devleopment team on making a movie with some interaciton I think, were just wrong.

This game could have been something amazing, if they had given you more agency in the game.

I think it goes to show how little people are interested in tlaking about the actual game, given that so far, all of the responses to my critisicm have been personal insults or dimissiveness because of what I said ina thread a week ago. Instead of rebuttals or any sort of debate or engagement of my points.

It's 41 pages long. A lot of early copies, I guess?

Yes, because people can discuss the game based on the impressions we've gotten from other members, good or bad. It's another thing to come into the thread giving off your impressions like you've actually played the game yourself. Do you not see how it could make things confusing or muddy the waters when you're giving impressions from watching the game on YouTube (you didn't even specifically make note of this) in a thread where we've been getting genuine impressions from people with early copies?
