The Order: 1886 |OT| Gears of Yore

All right so how many more chapters in the game are simply cutscenes? I'm at chapter 8 BTW and this game continues to be awesome

The first gunfight in Chapter 3 was extremely enjoyable for me, atleast with my style of run and gun. Was pretty hectic, I died a few times but the gunplay really stood out and made fight great.

Here's my run at it, minor spoilers for Chapter 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TsncB0L1pw

If the rest of the fights play out like this and the game maintains its pacing, I'm in for a treat.
This looks great! Come on Amazon, where hell is my game?

In many threads people have been claiming that RAD lied and misled people. I am not promoting the game but I don't see how?

The summary explanation of the game is:

•Filmic vision – The Order: 1886™ transports players into the stunningly realistic and re-imagined Neo-Victorian London, replicating the nuances of actual motion picture cameras and lenses for a more immersive and believable presentation

• Seamless narrative experience – Full performance capture for characters and scenes, combined with seamless transitions between action and story sequences, work together to bring the rich narrative, rife with conspiracy and intrigue, to life

So....Why are people saying RAD is being dishonest? The game is not broken or missing any portions. I'm confused?

I just finished the game, at around 8 hours. I expected to be really dissapointed, but in the end I weren't really dissaponted. While the game has some faults
fuck the stealthsections in particular
, I really enjoyed the game. Whyyyy did it end so abruptly

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that it's frustratingly worthless to look around the environments for collectables, or anything. Seems like a massive oversight, to make such an insanely beautiful world, and then give the player no real reason to do anything other than run straight forward.

In The Last of Us, not only are you scavenging for supplies, finding Shiv doors, etc, but there are also TONS of little things to find, optional conversations and whatnot. It's kind of what I expect out of a single-player campaign, these days.

Collectables don't have to be meaningless checklist items, like a Ubisoft game. Games like Wolfenstein prove that you can make collectibles worth picking up for reasons other than just something to fill time with.

I don't think RAD lied, I agree they were very straightforward from the start about this being a blend of "filmic" elements and game.

There are some interesting points that I would like answered though, like how they mentioned the physics being an integral part of the game and that we would find out why, yet it seems that part was by and large forgotten or abandoned.

Why do you say this? I've ran passed a collectible early on and when I went to explore I found it.

Oh my God I snatched the last copy of my local retailer. lmao That made a little bit nervous.

I am actually quite surprised, I had other things to do so I went to get the game after my other appointments and there was a considerably big stand for the game there so I was not worried at all. Considering the game costs a hundred dollars here in Brazil this is quite something. Anecdotal and all but whatever. Cant wait to start it when I get home.

I think I will start on hard, but I am really not that good at shooters in general so if I see its not going well for me I will change it back to normal. :p

There was 30 in my local game shop. I got the last one until Monday.

The vast majority that I've come across are directly in your path, and going down side corridors or looking around in buildings leaves me empty handed. There may be a collectible here and there off the beaten path, but not nearly enough to make it feel like you're truly missing something if you don't inspect each area carefully enough.

Played about 2 hours last night. Got to the
hospital
and stopped there. The game is giving me zero incentive to continue. I don't care about anything that's going on. I literally fell asleep playing. I wasn't expecting much from the story, but I was expecting some... spectacle at least. The lineararity is pretty glaring as well. I didn't want open world, nor expect that, but man, its like an alleyway shooter. Guess that's how you keep the game in scope. Haven't been overly impressed graphically yet either. The opening areas are really bland. And something about the chicks face really bugs me. Her mouth corners don't move correctly. She feels a lot more rubbery than the other characters.

Gunplay actually feels way better than the E3 build I played, so I'm glad for that. I just don't give a shit about the things I'm shooting, or do I quite understand why I'm shooting them. The game hasn't done a very good job at getting the player caught up on what's going on.

Did you restart your Ps4? Maybe just a loading"bug"

You can change the difficulty anytime and it looks like there is no difficulty affected trophies.

Looking at the video I would think that it's a hardware problem causing it but then it would probably show up in other games/places. Guess it wouldn't hurt to give it the usual treatment of uninstall and re-install, check other system\game\disc if possible and then last resort check with Sony about it. I will be curious to hear the results if you look into it.

I decided against getting the CE and just went with the regular copy. I can't wait to get home and play it tonight since a friend is picking it up for me while I'm at work. Now I've just got to fight the urge to rush through preparing dinner so I can play the game (no burnt pasta!).

Really enjoying the game so far, played around an hour, maybe hour and a half.

Also thanks to guys who suggested switching system's language, it indeed changed the game's language to English. It should be an option without this workaround, but that's better than nothing.

Mine is getting delivered to my work address... UPS best show up before my departed time at 6... or else I'm going to be "working" late tonight while I wait for it to arrive.

ups fucked me over and said I asked for it to be left for pickup which is bullshit and now my game is acting all weird :(

How do I know when its fully installed? I have it on disc, I'm usually a digital only guy but i got the collectors edition

I usually just get up close to my PS4 and see if I can hear the disc spinning. If it's installed it will stop.

Though I think if you hit options on the game on your XMB and go to something like "information" it might show you....not sure

I would honestly bet many of those were in the planning stage, and the production calendar made it too much of a challenge for getting the finished product out to release. The obvious upside of that being that any subsequent games would have a leg up in the planning phase for things like that. Destruction puzzles worked in alongside shooting gameplay can be really fun. Considering some of the mini-puzzles RaD put together for Ghost of Sparta were some of my favorites in the God of War series, I think they have the right minds in the right place.

It blows my mind that people bought this game with the intention of mowing through it and selling it back within a day or two. Why the hell would you not just rent it??? Seems idiotic to me.

Anyway, going to pick up my copy during lunch in a few and proceed to stare at it on my desk all day :| Looking forward to playing it tonight!

Hey buddy! I was thinking the same thing. I do know some folks have no rental options from there locations but yeah otherwise, might as well just rent it if/when possible. I'm keeping this regardless. :D

yeah i hardly have any games on disc :( but yeah the only thing thats been acting weird for me is the download speeds never really seen any shit like this before and yeah I know when shit like this happens it could fail big time

Wow, you really mixed it up with that approach. I simply stayed on the upper level picking everyone off from inside/outside the room and slugging it out with the shotgunners that made it up the steps. Gonna give your method a go next time I play that chapter. Heh.

I'm already sold on the game but that looked like a lot of fun. Hard difficulty?

I picked up my CE during my lunch break. Now I wait for the work day to end. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this tonight.

So those finishing the game, are you keeping it? Going to pick up my copy after work today.

Edit: Wonder if release day would be a good time to announce some sort of DLC or plans to have people keep the game.

I've been playing the game since this morning, my ps4 just froze and turned itself off.

Should I let it cool off?

Scared for the safety of my system

Just started Chapter 4 and I'm having a good time myself. I like the characters a lot (Galahad and Igraine's relationship feels genuine), the atmosphere is super thick and I really feel like I'm in Victorian London. I'm not sure why many think the combat's boring, I love it. Guns are punchy as hell and movement is very smooth. I've died more than once on hard, if you're too eager the enemy AI will make sure you don't get far. The AI seems to try to flank me whenever they can too.

I've been reading every newspaper (enjoying getting more backstory on events happening in the game) and looking at every detail I can because it's all meticulously crafted. Cutscenes blend seamlessly in gameplay and vice versa, it doesn't bother me much at all really. My only complaint so far was that fight with the rebels in Ch. 3 lasted longer than I would have really wanted it to. That and, well, having tutorial prompts come up every time for an action is pretty unnecessary lol Have to take a break for now but can't wait to continue. The soundtrack fits the game perfectly as well.

I can't really comb through the thread at the moment but payday just hit and I'm deciding if I should abandon my better judgement and bite on this.

A few months back I told myself I would read the review scores but a lot of the fan opinion and critic opinion differ really heavily so should I just pick it up?

I don't mind a shorter length (as a film student actively studying and writing a script, shorter, conducive experiences are pretty welcome.)

TL;DR- Should I buy it?

All I would really ask for with this is solid visuals, a solid story, solid performance, and a fun steampunk action romp with fun shooting mechanics.

That's only for following the background download progress for a digital copy. There's no way to see the installation progress from disc, so listening if the disc is still spinning is the only way.
