After reading this entire topic I'm not sure if I'm impressed or disappointed that no one really had a list similar to mine at all, at least from what I could tell. I'm sort of pleased with myself for having unique tastes but I'm also disappointed there wasn't anyone with similar enough tastes to the point where I feel like I could take recommendations from the person in terms of games from this gen that I haven't played.

Forgot about this thread. Meant to finish my list when I wasn't as tired but forgot.

If I remembered to finish my top 10 (only had 4 done before I fell asleep), it would have been all over the place. Nothing necessarily rare, but it'd have an action game, an adventure game, an FPS, an RPG, a platformer, etc.

This was really difficult, I'd have way less problems with any other generation. In particular the number one spot, I'd know it in an instant in the NES/SMS, SNES/MD, Wii/PS360 generations, in N64/PSX it'd be a battle between only three games (Majora, Mario and Banjo), but here, every game in my top ten, and even some below, could be in the top spot. It was both, a very strong generation, but it also lacked the one extreme stand-out title to rule above all others.

Felt the same way about that gen myself for the most part(well, I didn't have any trouble with my number one at all, but anything below that was a bitter battle). I feel like it was overall the strongest gen, it had a surge of experimentality in game design at mid to high budget levels at the onset of 3d becoming standard at the same time as online play was in its infancy(and people weren't assholes online yet). It was the perfect storm, a combination of many factors that lead to some really interesting games.

Actually felt the same way myself, my list doesn't have much in common with most lists either, but I think it's the product of there being a lot of stellar, unique games in this gen.

I just saw your list - I was this close to including Monkey Ball and I feel the same about SA2. I don't know how I even forgot Kirby Air Ride and wish I could go back and edit stuff now, it's one of my favourites from that generation. Mario Party has been a mainstay for much of the generation and should've gotten an honourable mention from me at the very least. Melee is my number one too (and I played Game&Watch quite often when I didn't pick Pikachu) and I have Pokémon and Fire Emblem on my list.

It's tough to get a good match since this is across a whole gen but I feel there are similarities. I don't know if you played Megaman Battle Network 3, but that might be worth checking out. Also, I like both turn-based and realtime strategy games so if you like the latter, check out Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD, an HD update to two of my favourites from that generation and they run well on modern computers, it's on GoG and I got them for something like 2$ each.

I've only played Mechassault on there (and I loved those games) so I can't really help, sorry =/

This was one heck of a vote to do. As I said in my entry, when Half-Life 2 has to fight to even get on the list, you know it's fierce competition.

Will there be a link to the results thread in this one? Would be easy for those of us who subscribed to the thread to find rather than catching it on the fast moving first page.

Regarding Metroid Prime: You guys keep forgetting that AniHawk's in charge. :V

I'll honestly be surprised if any game from the least popular platform makes it into the top 3.
I don't think anyone voted for Tapwave Zodiac stuff!

I think I was one out of 2-4 people who added a Wonderswan game to their list in some capacity, tho.

Haha. To be honest, it looks like MGS3 has it in the bag anyway, but RE4 and Prime seem VERY close. Maybe we'll have to double check his count ;).

I couldn't convince myself what I wanted to votw for since my tastes have changed considerably since the gen. Should I have voted for what I enjoyed then, or what I enjoy now? I couldn't decide, so left it alone.

I just hope Super Monkey Ball and Soul Calibur are represented.

Just reading the last few pages I think SOTC may actually have a chance topping RE4. The right answer should have been Metal Gear Solid 3 though.

I did my part on the latter. More should have.

So where the heck are the results already?
I'm 100% kidding. I know these take time. Once again thank you for doing this and God Speed!

small update - this should be ready to go in the next hour or two.

Here is hoping RE4 wins it. Either way it seems like my top 3 are gafs top 3. Proof that I have amazing taste In games. :p

I am bugged that WW will beat out TP, feels so backward, but that is Zelda for you, opinions are all over the place.

WW >x1,000 TP

But it's probably that many people just think of it as a Wii game.

Looking through some of this thread, I am going to assume that Nintendo fans and Gamecube owners were more active in the voting.

I would have voted for TP but I only played it on Wii (It will certainly be on my list for Gen 7). But yeah, I'm in the camp that find's WW to be the worst 3D Zelda.

Actually, Ani said there were far more votes for PS2 exclusives than either GC or Xbox.

There were a lot of lists that didn't even have a Nintendo game in their top ten. Kind of pity them for missing out but oh well

It's safe to say that many people were satisfied with just a PS2, and it's hard to blame them looking at the huge, diverse catalog of amazing games it had.

I'm actually a Marth main, I have a G&W avi because I like playing him in Smash 4 :p.

Thanks for the recs though. I should probably check out those Stronghold games, I have difficulty playing anything with an interface designed in mind for PCs (I'm fine with PC gaming but pretty much the entire reason I originally got into it is because thanks to Steam and the widespread adaption of the 360 controller as a standard PC gaming controller you can basically play PC games as you would console games at this point). As for MMBN3, maybe I'll try it some time, I played MMBN4 and that kind of soured my taste on the whole series, I know everyone seems to say that it's the worst in the series but I feel like my issues with it weren't really issues I'd just have with one game in the series.

Wait what, I only played it on wii but since it is part of this list I included it. I never know what gen TP is and I see most don't either. well now I have a perfect excuse as to why WW is in the lead, TP voting was like Florida in the 2000 election.

The fact that you think it's impossible for someone to play Metroid Prime or F zero and NOT consider them within the top 10 of that gen. You're critiquing the concept of having an opinion. Celebrate diversity, you'll be happier.

not my problem their opinions suck

maybe they should learn to like better games

Not really. Played plenty of Nintendo games that gen and while I enjoyed some of them, this list would need to be like top40 I think before I would be able to put one Ninty game into it.

I think only 10 games for a whole generation was a bit low. Especially for 6th gen. There were way too many good games.
