Sprites that look like things they're not supposed to

As a kid I always thought this guy was shaped like a Goomba from SMB instead of being an old man in a robe with loose sleeves.

The peon portrait in Warcraft 2 threw me off for years. Probably due to his right eye just barely being visible so I hardly even noticed it.

His left ear looked like his left eye and that he was winking or something. The left cheek was some kind of beak and the tusk his smiling mouth.

I was looking at this for a solid 20 seconds trying to figure out what it was meant to be

I am sleep deprived

This is what happen to me. What i thought was sideburn is actually his eye, the nose is actually his headphone

Never understood this one. Haven't played the game but people say you can see him different. But I don't even know what the right way is, lol.

Guess I'll do the one I put in another thread like this: The killer plant monsters in Chrono Trigger:

In their idle animation I always see them as some beaked monster with tentacle limbs holding two orbs and wearing garish clothing with a large collar and a hood. Their real form is clearer once they start moving but even now I have a hard time seeing what they're supposed to be when they're idle.

oh man, this broke me. As if meeting this bastards wasn't soul crushing enough.

I always thought they were disarmingly cute, back when I thought those poison sacs were their eyes. Like you're fighting the undead, ogres, and giant suits of sentient armor, and then these little buggers walk up to you like "Hey what's up guy?" And then you two-hand smash them with a battle axe and kick their ragdoll corpses around as you go on your merry way.

Whoever pointed this out to me ruined this sprite for me forever. I cannot unsee it. I saw it correctly for the first half of my life.

In Total Recall for NES the fists coming out of the holes to hit you look like dicks in a glory hole! Wait those are fists right?

I only figured this one out late last year. I've owned Chrono Trigger since it's first release on SNES and have completed it end-to-end at least 15 times.

Emperor Gestahl from Final Fantasy VI was the first thing that came to mind for me. He always resembled a dog to me.

I was just playing Castle in the Darkness and there's a common enemy towards the beginning of the game that is confusing as hell to look at. At first I assumed it was a zombie with poor sprite work or something generic like that, but a friend I showed the game to thought it was a dog. I don't know, maybe we're just dumb.

I have a lot of sprites engrained in my memory that look "off," though. Either I realized that the developers intended the sprite to be seen in a different way, or saw some concept art that corrected what I initially perceived, or so on. Still, it's the kind of thing that can never be unseen-- I don't think of them or even remember many Off the top of my head, but playing the game they're in instantly brings back childhood memories (doesn't seem to happen as much to me as an adult).

I always looked at it as a sword with eyes, until I noticed the guy glasses and the "eyes" are actually his hands.

Holy Mary mother of God. This is the first time I've been gotten in one of these threads, but goddamn.

Edit:
It's both:

He's holding onto it like a pogo stick. Oh and it's Mack.

The sword still has evil eyes though. Your childhood is not ruined.

oh thank god

While this 'interpretation' is kinda funny it never made sense to me because the hands have the same color as his face, and other gold stuff used the same gold color iirc.

I thought they were gloves tbh, took me a long time to figure it out.

Super Mario RPG, the final boss Smithy.

Apparently the blatant cock and balls on this "wizard" transformation were supposed to be Smithy's nose.
