Xbox One Exclusive D4 is selling like complete shit, please help me #SaveD4

I'd buy it if I had an Xbox One. It sucks to hear about games not selling well for whatever reason. Deadly Premonition was really cool.

And is that something that you can switch back and forth on a whim?

Yeah, you can change it as much as you want but it requires a reboot

For some reason most games rely on it for language settings while only a few give an option

It will change your whole console language and switch you to japan store until you switch back (another reboot)

Yeah I got it working. Thanks! Unfortunately my D4 still plays audio in English, even though everything else is in Japanese, which is a bummer. Would've loved to play this game in Japanese w/English subtitles.

Swery prob wanted Boston Accents all time in all languages

Shot up to the top of the 'best selling' list within days of hitting GwG.

Good to see it finally do well. 1m is damn good. Hopefully enough for MS to find more seasons.

I need more D.

I wouldn't say it's too bad. If MS hadn't funded the first season, we probably wouldn't even have it right now.

It's not like Swery is beating off demands from publishers to fund his games...

I mean, don't get me wrong I understand why it's an exclusive completely I'm just sad I'll probably never get to play it. If somehow it comes to PC at least I'll snatch it up in an instant.

As a day 1 buyer who loved this game, I'm chuffed that many more are getting into it.

Phil, if you have a minion trawling through GAF, get on green lighting more of this stuff.

Oh and also. This might sound a small thing, but SWERYS use of a clenched first to select things in kinect is much better than the baked in push motion.

You need to change that.

I thought it was Kinect-only. but if it's not I'll probably get it now.
It's free with gold right now so make sure you pick it up, you can use controller.

Yeah that was good, I can never get the push to work on kinect. Couldn't get past the menu of kinect sports rivals so just stopped trying, but in D4 I could actually click things.

As someone who had zero interest in the game and didn't think I would like it at all before it was GWG I thought it was decent, probably wouldn't buy it but it exceeded my expectations at least. Probably the second best GWG for me after Max.

Been playing for about 20 minutes so far...phew, I'll keep going but this shit is awful lol. Have no idea what's going on or why I'm doing things.

I'm with you. I just beat the prologue and hate the game so far. Everything that's happening just seems weird for the sake of being weird, the controls are awful and no fun (I'm using a controller) and the vocal performances don't flow properly.

I know Neogaf loves this game, so I'm gonna press on, but I'm curious why exactly Neogaf loves this game. Do people just think the story is really great, or is there actually some good gameplay to find here? I'm very much a gameplay>>>story guy, so I fear this may not be a game for me.

Started this morning... Was struggling to get into it, then Amanda showed up and by the end of the episode I am 100% onboard.

Totally weird and crazy and kinda dumb and I love it.

I sent the tweet below to Phil Spencer. Those of you with Twitter accounts might consider sending similar messages. It couldn't hurt.

@XboxP3 Nice that 1 million people playing D4 now on Xbox One thanks to GwG. I hope you can help Swery make future episodes.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I don't see what everyone's raving about, it's the embodiment of the things gamers rip other games for.

I haven't given up on it, but it's tough for me to stay interested.

GAF isn't one person... but many on GAF have also told me Vanquish, Driveclub, BInary Domain and Dark Souls are great games. I think all 4 aren't compelling.

Tastes and opinions... don't sweat it.

In any case, as a "gameplay guy" not sure any game designed for Kinect will ever appeal to you.

ok at first i didn't really get it story-wise or gameplay...but now it's clicking and it's amazing. im hooked!

Got this game during the January Games for Gold event, but haven't had the time to finish it until now.

My god, this game is amazing. It makes me wish I could have bought it instead of getting it for free. I hope if there's enough downloads, they'll make a Season 2 (and 3... and 4... and 5...) It was so unique, with its plot and characters, and had a great soundtrack (which I had heard before, which got it into my Top 3 soundtracks of 2014 with just me getting through Ep.1).

God, I hope this becomes more popular. D4: S2, c'mon, we need it.

Well, I'll be happy if it ends up being released at all. Truth be told, I never expect Swery's games to come out until awhile after he finishes the last one. I mean, Deadly Premonition took 6 years to make, so I'm not expecting D4: S2 to come out soon if it even will.

That being said, if Swery is working on S2, I hope he takes his time and makes the game just as entertaining, unique, and polished as S1.

I just finished this game yesterday.
It did start out slow and I wasn't sure about it, by the end of episode 2 i was sold.

What a cliffhanger!

So it is MS's fault that this game sold like shit? At least based on his QA he said it was poorly marketed and just dumped in the store with no prior announcement or pre-hype. I still have yet to play the game (maybe I'll do it soon) but from what I've seen it looks great, it's witty and it has a great soundtrack. Microsoft can go fuck themselves if they truly botched D4's potential success.

Kinect 2.0's failure is the real reason the game didn't sell well. MS practically stealth released all Kinect titles once they decided to make a Kinect-less SKU.

That and the game simply doesn't have mass appeal. It's a niche title, and I can't think of a way you could advertise it to the general public. It was a GWG title, and when it launched it had ad space on the Xbox home screen.

Lets be real, it wouldn't have sold that well regardless.

D4 is the type of game that doesn't really fit into the gaming climate of today, that's if it ever fit in. It was never going to turn people into fans of the new age of Adventure games nor was it going to get any of the telltale fans.

MS has actually promoted it pretty decently for what it is, especially with the games with gold month. As that's the best way to get it to people who otherwise wouldn't look at it.

It's funny seeing people reacting to the relatively outdated headline on the same page that the continued sales + GWG have meant it's "sold" over a million units in less than a year.

By the end of the first set of episodes, this game carved a weird but charming place in my heart.

Wasn't it swery himself who stealth released it at TGS so he could have a "one more thing" steve jobs moment?

LOL at the narrative shifting to evil MS berrying their own product that they footed the dev bill on less than half a year later.

The common belief is that Swery was trying to spin the stealth release as a positive, and not throw MS under the bus because he wants Season Two to get funded.

The reality is likely that with Kinect no longer being a priority, MS just had Swery wrap up whatever he had to get it out of the way. Season One being only two episodes, having little marketing, releasing no fanfare, etc were probably Microsoft's decision and not Swery's.

Here's hoping whatever hoops Swery would have to jump through to get D4 on PC would be manageable. I know it comes across as port-begging, but considering this game's niche appeal and given how it isn't exactly doing OK on the XB1 at the moment, any way of getting this out to more people would be awesome.
