Why is everyone crossing this movie off instantly? Half say it's awful and half say it's fantastic. So only the bad reviews count?

Blomkamp is wack... I don't know how he was able to make district 9. elesyum is one of my most hated movies.

The fact that Weaver and Biehn are in it doesn't make it a good movie. Biehn hasn't done anything remotely interesting since Aliens and a few other things.

yeah, I'm saying that having those characters and actors 30 years after is fucked up. I'm agreeing with you.

Well good thing I have $10 off on my AMC rewards card after hearing very mix things. I still hope it's better than Elysium. I don't want to believe that this guy is just a one-hit wonder.

14%. Holy shit, that's junk-tier. The trailers were not very impressive from what I saw, tone seems almost too upbeat and humorous for the material at hand. D9 was never that chirpy even at its chirpiest.

Hate to use this as an analogy but from the trailers the film kind of reminds me of some B-rate bro-core Gears knockoff. It might actually work better as a game than as a film.

Bah, I enjoyed Prometheus. It's an origin story.. Think of it like one of the clue endings.. It COULD have started this way....

You're saying it COULD have started this way?

The trailers for this were very unmemorable. I skipped Elysium but have been meaning to look it up to see if it's on netflix or amazon prime. District 9 was ok, but I don't have the desire to ever rematch it. Perhaps his style is just not for me.

Prometheus is official canon because Ridley Scott said as much. The whole goddamn movie is a prelude to Alien and what follows. If you don't like it, fine. But stop the canon this canon that talk. It is canon deal with it. Prometheus is how it all started and nothing will change it. The fact that people don't like this movie and do like the sound of a Blomkamp Alien is something I will never understand.

It's "currently" at 54% not 14%.

Disappointing, but not surprising. I didn't think the previews looked particularly good. It looks like an action Short Circuit film.

chappie (the robot) just isn't doing it for me. these things tend to be designed so the audience gets super attached to them but man i ain't feeling chappie at all.

Why do so many here still care what the RT score is :lol? Half of you all love Speed Racer and that's on 39

If you think it looks decent, go see it.

Boom, this right here...

People put to much into others opinions, go form your own.

Except the subset of people that just want shit to fail, because reasons. You people can go fuck yourselves...

But OP told me 14% and OP can never be wrong!

I stand corrected

It's a fun popcorn flick and if you're a fan of the director's previous films you might enjoy slightly more, as I do.

But yeah it's still the worst Alien film by far. Which...

...when you put it that way, is some ominous shit for the new Alien film.

My money and time are important; I'd rather not waste it watching a crappy movie and even though it's not perfect RT is generally (but not always) pretty reliable.

Confirmation bias.

People want to feel like their opinions on something (even if they haven't seen it...) are correct. The fallacy is that everyone is right and everyone is wrong because art is subjective.

Translation: Dumb fucking people.

It's not very often a movie is panned by critics and then it turns out its actually a great film

I want Chappie to be good too, but the reviews were held back for a reason

Eh, I'd say usually critics are aligned with moviegoers in terms of response except in two instances:

* the "good bad movie"—popcorn flicks like Michael Bay movies. I have never met someone who said anything positive about them, but they do explosions well and always make money.

* the "arty movie"—stuff the critics love that sink at the box office. Half of the time it's legitimately a good movie that failed for any number of reasons, the other half it was just a bad movie wrapped in the cloak of "well, this is art!" defense that deserved to be forgotten.

District 9 was a film I sort of enjoyed in spite of everything the film was trying to do. I'm really, really happy Blomkamp didn't get to make that Halo film.

I'm sad. I was really looking forward towards this one. Knowing that 50% of the critics don't like it doesn't make it better for me. That just means that at the best it will be an average movie and not even close to the greatness off D9.

Ugh...ugh...I'm really having some second thoughts about shelling money out to see it tonight. I just hope to god he isn't writing the new Alien movie. Blomkamp needs to avoid writing at all costs and focus 100% on his own visual style. The plot was simple enough to work very very well for D9, but every other outing where he's been involved in the writing, everything seems to fall apart.

Four

Village
Signs
Unbreakable
Sixth Sense

Yeah, you really need to cut that list back down to two. Village was insanely predictable with an absolutely dumb twist and dumber plot. Signs breaks down when you realize the aliens are intelligent enough to traverse the galaxy but dumb enough to get taken out by Earth's most abundant resource.

I still haven't seen Unbreakable, but I've heard nothing but good things from what seems to be his most underrated movie.

I can't imagine the film is worse than Elysium.

Elysium was extremely bad on a narrative and character standpoint.

Because people give professional reviews far more credit then they are worth.
If given two options: Speed racer has 39 based off of 208 viewers -or- Speed Racer has 60 based off 400,611 viewers, I'd always go with the latter.

It should be worth watching for Die Antwoord, production design, and the action set pieces. Even if it's shit, it won't be a complete waste of time.

These became my expectations as soon as I found out it was about a robot becoming a person.

I just have never liked this stuff. I hated Lt Commander Data.

I was hoping this would make up for Elysium being crummy. Hopefully I'll still enjoy it, but I may wait for it to hit digital download.

It's an amazing film, sure it's simple (as was the source material) and yes it's visually stunning, it's a well crafted movie...

So, why is it better now? internet era? please explain

There's a lot more reviews to collaborate online these days; a lot of the movies pre 2000 have very little reviews so a consensus has a greater chance of being off on RT.

Haven't seen it yet of course, but I could easily tell from trailers that the film was cliche ridden and uninteresting.

What is Neil doing? Dude was supposed to be the one... Just stahp already.

If this trend continues then that Alien film... Oh God it's going to be another Prometheus D:<

anything above 50 usually means it might be pretty good.

theres alot of movies that were in the 50 range that I enjoyed. just means 50 percent of the critics liked it. you may fall into the category of that 50%, you may not. its hard for movies to get that 90%+ on RT. And even then, it just means alot of critics like it, but the movie itself could just be an above aberage film that alot of critics like but nothing mind blowing.

OP should be updated with current RT score
