PS4 Update 2.50 “Yukimura” Preview: Suspend/Resume and More

i really hope sony was diverting a heavy amount of resources towards getting suspend/resume going, and from here on out meaningful firmware updates will be more frequent

That was my exact line of thought earlier ,getting shareplay and suspend resume out was probably priority for Sony so yeah hopefully things run more frequently now

I'm not too optimistic about that unfortunately. Last gen the community was very vocal about the updates being too frequent.

i understand the idea of spacing them out a bit, but if that's the sole reason then their should be more features added in each update. these updates are pretty solid, but they aren't so great as to eclipse the meaningful updates that microsoft is releasing every month. they want to release them quarterly instead of monthly? cool, but include 4x the updates then!

I've had PS+ since early 2011, so I have lots of 0%'s. Can't wait to erase the past (of games that didn't hold my interest).

I was hoping the next big update would include a data transfer utility. It was listed on a previous update list, but apparently removed before it came out. I have a 2TB HDD I want to upgrade to, but I don't really want to have to re-download ~400GB from PSN (including both games and patches). Does anyone think this is coming soon, or should I just upgrade now before making it worse by downloading Bloodborne (another ~30GB)?

I wonder how Remote Play at 60 will work on Vita because of the awful Wi-Fi chip. Unless they've massively improved the compression or something :/

The 2.50 has backup system similar to the PS3's.... that's all I will say...

Also here is a better look at rest mode resuming....

Just curious, any news on Spotify coming in this update, or at a (much) later date? Just really want my music on PS4 through Spotify.

here is a tweet from Sony Enteratainment Network about an annoucement for Playstation Music (of which Spotify will be apart of) coming later this month

https://twitter.com/SonyEntNet/status/575687647328268288

18 seconds to the splash screen, 22 to gameplay.

Wonder how much difference an SSD makes.

From brief observations resume time can vary depending on various things like disc vs digital and if media app is running in background along side game (GTA5 disc with Netflix was loaded in that previous video)

Here is digital Saints Row 4 with no Apps in background

I wouldn't say a bunch. Going back through that website you provided:

1. Ability to change User ID
2. PS4 compatibility with g25 steering wheel
3. DualShock 4 compatibility for PS Vita Remote Play
4. Convert PSN Sub Account to Master Account
5. Enhance PS4 Video Support
6. Delete trophies with 0%
7. PS4 notifications for friends sign-on/offs
8. PS2 Classics on PS4
9. Arabic language and keyboard support
10. PS4 YouTube app
11. PS4: Pause and prioritize downloads
12. 3D Blu-ray Support on PS4
13. Quick PS4 game/chat invite
14. Display total time spent playing
15. Offline Trophies on PS4
16. Game gifting on PlayStation Store
17. Let PS3 friends see me on PS4
18. DLNA support
19. Option to put games in “folders”
20. Multiple accounts on PS Vita

Some of those hey already had but a lot is still missing. I don't even see suspend/resume as most requested on that website.

They don't accept ideas about features already announced, naturally.

Read this on the blog earlier and couldn't stop laughing. Perfect response, good to see official comments taking this sort of attitude at times.

Interesting, that's more like 10/11 seconds to splash, 12 to gameplay.

Seeing as you're jumping directly into a HDD-access-heavily application both times, a faster drive could cut another second or two off.

Just want to clean up the main screen with folders, custom wallpapers and media playback app. Think I'm all good after that.

A bonus would be custom avatar system. Or the return of Home mii style.

Holy SHIT, 11 seconds. (I'm so happy because it's the only digital retail title I've bought thus far LOL)

Yep, that's really nice. Was just thinking how much of a bummer it is to go back into Raid mode each time, loading, checking compatibility, checking dlc, etc.

Slightly off topic, but I need some help.

My ps4 won't boot to the OS, and instead is telling me to reinstall the firmware via USB drive. I've downloaded the firmware, put it on usb and it's saying it can't find the update file. OK, so I boot into safe mode, and select to update from there. They give me the option to do it from the internet, and it doesn't work. Tried the option via usb, doesn't work. I have no idea what is going on. About 10 minutes before this started I was playing Alien Isolation with no issue. Came back to power the system on and this is what I was greeted with.

Any help at all?

Edit: I see Rebuild Database, but that scares me...

Edit 2: Ok, I can't even Rebuild the Database. Is my last option a system wipe?

There are two versions of system software: Full version (under small black "DOWNLOAD NOW" button) and update version (under "DOWNLOAD UPDATE" button).

If you downloaded the update version and the PS4 is not recognizing it, try the full version.

Will do! I just found out you had to create a folder labled "ps4" and within it create another labled "update" and place it in there. I tried it with the small file and the ps4 read it, but said it couldn't use it, so that's progress I suppose. I'm downloading the full one now.

Thanks, I'll report back!

To me the media apps load fast enough, however hulu always starts at the beginning when I suspend it for gaming. Will probably still do that, hulu doesn't really implement on the ps4 and vita as well as Netflix does imo.

Unplug the power cord, wait a while. Reset, choose the first option (restart ps4 or something). My ps4 stuck on the safe mode loop as well, and this worked for me.

It didn't work :(

Thanks though. There is only a few minutes left for my firmware download, so hopefully this does something.

Oh shit...

It worked, I think, but in the worst possible way.

The ps4 will be initialized. All users and all data will be deleted. Are you sure you want to continue?

[No] [Yes]

What do I do!? I don't want to lose all of my data!

Edit: Tried it in safe mode and it said a serious error has occurred. The safe mode looks really out of wack though to be honest, like it's in 480p or something. It's not the usual blue screen safe mode.

Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.
