PS4 Firmware 2.50 (Yukimura) coming March 26

Just moved and hooked up my PS4. In a temporary location mind you, which has a bad wifi signal. Wanted to play bloodborne, which has been teasing me in it's plastic wrap for two days! Only got an hour before I'm travelling away for the weekend. I'm probably the only person who didn't want the update now :(

EDIT: Done!
But jesus christ there's a 2.7 GB update for Bloodborne... "2 hours left"

Everything is done. Super fast, back at the live area.

It said rebuilding database when it restarted after installing, anyone else get this?

Because both the center of the industry and the majority of Sony's user base are in the west. A team based in Japan is not going to have a proper understanding of western culture and the needs of western consumers to create an ecosystem that can properly fulfill those needs..

What a load of shit.

That's not location: you're saying that the Japanese in general can't build a UI that caters for Americans.

now that i finally deleted 0% trophies, can we please get an update to delete the 1% ones ?
And then 2% ? and then what ever we want to finally manage our trophies as we see fit ?

Thanks.

I really like the way it now displays the online status in the "Friends Who Play This" area. It'll be great when trying to find online partners.

Maybe because the vast majority of people don't have 100's of people in their friends list?

They already have that useless and annoying notification that alerts you when a friend joins a party so why the hell can't they simply add a notification that alerts you when a friend logs on?

They can even make it optional for those super social butterflies that have a billion people on their friends list.

You must have not had a PS3 at launch because that thing was straight up anemic.

What a load of shit.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to upgrade newest firmware for either system, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel Yukimura for PS4 & Vita or you can kiss your business goodbye.

OS is so fast now, awesome update.

DLNA and we are mostly done.

Nah, there's still a lot to go. Biggest thing for me is cleaning up the entire UI. Things like folders and pinning will help but I'd really like to remove all the apps and media stuff and keep it separate, maybe in the top menu. Maybe they could give you an option to keep that stuff out of the main game menu, so that people who want stuff like Netflix front and centre can keep it there but I just want games there.

Well as you say, there is more you want, each to their own.

For me, DLNA feature and I am good, none of those cosmetic issues concerns me personally.

Pressing Options in the Trophies screen, it seems you can set it so others can't see your trophies in individual games.
"Exclude Trophies from These Games"

It took about 12-13 seconds to resume my digital copy of The Last of Us (in the middle of game play) from the time I pressed the PS button on the controller to wake the system. Nice.

I think that's been the case for a long time - I think it was to buy time until they let us delete trophies.

And folders.

IMO, it would be better if they just put more default categories in the library to distinguish between games and demos, betas etc. (like they already do with apps).

I adjusted by downloading demos only with another PSN account. That way once I delete them they won't show up in my main account anymore.

Else I don't know much I would do with custom folders TBH. Maybe one for games I play more regular but I would have to manually maintain that and those games would show up in the 15 tiles of the PS4 OS anyway.

Voice search a game's name is very useful and faster than any other solution I can think of doing with folders. I got now really used to it especially as you usually don't have to say full names but like "Ground Zeroes" and it will jump to MGS somewhere down in my library.

Also, the PS4's games library is alphabetically sorted which makes it already better than the PS3 which for some reason never got that...

I'm always in favor for more customization options though, so bring it.
But I don't see how it's something urgent.

So, has anyone measured the power consumption with a suspended game ?

I just find it odd, that the PS4 also starts instantly while previously it also took around 25 sec. to boot from standby.

But maybe that just found a way to improve the boot up process from standby significantly.

Installed the update fine and it seems to be fairly stable. Avatars are fixed in the friends who play this section for each game but not in the what's new section for me. Oh well.

Can anyone figure out where the remote play high frame rate setting is on the PS4? I found it on the Vita and I found the share play high frame rate setting (start a party, go to party settings, video quality for share play).

The back up feature will surely come in handy. Got myself a SSHD today, guess I will be able to install and restore everything without a pinch during the weekend.

For those that care about such things. PS4 firmware:

Rest mode with these settings now has an electricity usage cost of 4.5 Watt:
  • Supply Power to USB Ports: Disabled
  • Stay Connected to the Internet: Enabled
    - Enable Turning On PS4 From Network: Enabled
  • Keep Application Suspended: Enabled

"Keep Application Suspended" set to Disabled makes Rest mode have an electricity usage cost of 3 Watt, as it was before the Firmware update.

The new Application Suspend functionality costs an additional 1.5 Watt.

From the other thread. Thanks benny :)

Suspend resume works well enough but can anyone explain why it's so slow and clunky on both PS4 and Xbox One and yet so smooth and instant on handhelds and phones? On Vita you press the power button and it sleeps instantly. Press it again it resumes instantly. On PS4 it takes a noticeable amount of time to sleep and even more to resume.

Awesome!

I use the same settings because USB charge uses like 8W constantly and I don't need it because I have two controllers which fixes pretty much any battery problems (one controller is always charging while I play with the other).

For reference:

In Germany, leaving your PS4 in rest mode in Benny's settings costs you about 7.60€ per year (3W, 0.29€ per kWh which is an average price I believe). It's actually less because that's calculated for 24/7 and obviously you will also turn it on to play.

If you suspend a game for a whole year it would bring the costs up to 11.40€.

So that's like nothing, especially considering the amount of time you save from having updates etc. download in the background and not loading up the game&apps again (plus literally money you save from not doing that when the system is fully powered and thus drawing more power).
A high energy consumption would have made me think twice of when to use suspend/resume but now I will adjust to just use it all the time :)

PS4 firmware took about 6 minutes to download (the other day it took 5 HOURS to download 300MB of a DA:I update...). Vita firmware which is about half the size of the PS4 firmware says it is going to take 6 hours. Love PSN speeds. Sometimes it will use my entire connection. sometimes close to 1%.

That's really weird. I downloaded the Vita update in less than a minute. Are you sure this isn't an issue at your end? I can't say I've really noticed anything like this before.

Holy fuck. Resume works flawlessly. I just used it on GTA V, and it booted in 8 seconds from complete rest mode. I have upgraded the drive to 2TB but its still only 5400rpm.

This is actually a useful feature. Well done Sony.

I'm sure it's been asked already, but that PSNow icon will eventually disappear to my library when I never use it right?

Just installed it. Started up Bloodborne and loaded up my game so I can suspend it until after work. Was hoping to see Spotify snuck in somewhere... I really freaking want it :(.
