Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

The same person announced a new visual novel and the title is "Anonymous: Code".
It says its a "Science Visual Novel". The main lead character is said to be a hacker.

Yes, and occultic nine, another visual novel in the same world.
I want them all like Steins gate(limited ed and english please)

People already went overboard, which is why the mods are waiting before letting another thread start, which seems reasonable. It's not like there was any productive discussion going on in that thread.
Yet we're still talking about it here. I think leaving the thread open now, especially in light of the update which seemingly confirms a pattern of sorts, would of been helpful.

It'll be nice when we actually have some more concrete info though, and don't have to worry about this is it/isn't it stuff.

I will wait for more news. This could be awesome sauce or it could be nothing.

You know what, this raises a question for someone like me who hasn't played SG or watched the anime (but owns both). Is it usually a good idea to play the VN and then watch the anime for it?

I'm think the first part of the Grisaia trilogy (Fruit) will have its BackerKit close soon - and I don't know which version of it I will be ordering XD. It seems like getting the adult version will be better than taking a risk at knowing what they could cut out for the All Ages version.

The order doesn't particularly matter. The VN is the better experience, so I'd probably read that first, but it's also a larger time investment.

I'm excited for ALL These VN and hope they all get localized and ported to everything, including PC.

CHAOS;CHILD

Synopsis:

Synopsis: On 7th of September 2015 a man suddenly dies
while streaming a video from his web camera. Later,
on September 19th a street musician dies the same way while performing.
Miyashiro Takuru, a member of Hekihou Academy's newspaper Club
is tasked to investigate those incidents. His friend, Shinji Ito,
directs Takuru to a clue - both incidents took place at the same day
as the first two incidents of "New Generation Madness" from 2009.

Takuru tells this to Kurusu Nono, a vice president of the newspaper club,
but she doesn't believe him, saying it's all just a coincidence.
Takuru continues to stand his ground" "There's a way to prove it's not a coincidence.
The third "New-Gene" incident happened on September 29th. Which is... today".
That instant Takuru's cell phone rings. It's Onoe Serika.

Trying to calm down his violently beating heart,
Takuru gathers the other members and goes to a place Serika told them to...

Also, is it just me or does it seem as if 5pb are trying to chase some of Persona's aesthetics and signature jazz/funky music? xD.

I'm not even sure what the point of bringing the Infinity series into ZE3 would be. It certainly makes little financial sense to tie them together, especially if the game is aimed at the West, where the Infinity Series only exists through fan translations and an ancient release that can't even be bought anymore.

Maybe Infinity could be somewhere in the subtitle of ZE3, like Hope 4 Infinity or something (OK thats very cheesy but you get what I mean) :)
I dont think it will last 3 months, that seems too long for a teaser.

Oh good that answers my question. I wonder why they went with the ; format, then?

I wonder whether the teaser on 4infinity could be about Root Double (from the director of the Infinity series and sounds similar to 999 imo)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b4leQpcTKs

Looks cool and interesting, if its this, I hope it comes to a console I have (PC, Vita or 3DS)

Seems very interesting and in the website http://www.yetigame.jp it says ps vita and extended version, also I don't find a ps vita version of the game on sale so i supposed that it hasn't been released yet? Anyways in the worst scenario we're going to get a visual novel translated so that's good news.

Alright, so I'm highly anticipating Steins Gate coming over since I've never played it and ive been told its amazing.

Also the new DanganRonpa. Honestly, I've found myself loving VN after binging on the entirety of Ace Attorney series back on the DS. DanganRonpa gave me that extra love of serious, dark murder mystery undertones and I'm eager for more.

I've been recommended to play a few that are km Vita (can't remember for the life of me the names :|, I think zero escape or something to that affect?)

Anyway, can you guys provide me with some quality ones on vita that I can play as soon as today? Also I went into that vndb list. Super dense! I had no idea android had VNs (such a nooblet)

Pretty sure they can run on my Nexus 5 if any suggestions.

Cheers and much obliged!

I remember Root Double. The game starts with a bang, first route is great stuff. It gets less interesting further in, and the final route was almost unreadable thanks to a bazillion flashbacks that completely kill the pacing and interest in the outcome of the story. There is a version with a fixed final route so you don't have to sit through the never ending RAM flashbacks, but I only read through the original game and it was horrible.

Anyway, finished the third game in the Bishoujo Mangekyou series. These games are just the best. Their existence basically makes no sense. Even though they are low-priced the production values are insane. You get amazing art from Happoubi Jin, awesome soundtracks and really nice stories. It's always the same with these games, you come for the porn and stay for the interesting tales presented in such an aesthetically pleasing way. This new entry is probably the best so far. Really liked the post-apocalyptic setting and heroines. And that mutated animal Dorothy keeps as a pet was a hilarious mascot character.

I know several people who think that he's the best artist currently in the business, although I tend to respectfully disagree and will gladly make my case for G-Yuusuke being number one.

I haven't actually bothered with any of the Bishoujo Mangekyou because of the combination of the apparent focus on H (which I don't care about 99% of the time) with a low price tag, but maybe I'll have to give them a chance now.

I/O all over again.
It seems Regista doesn't learn from past mistakes.

In regards to the Zero Escape series, I'd definitely recommend them. There are two games in the series currently, the first one is 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors for DS/iOS and the second one is Virture's Last Reward for 3DS/Vita. The recommended version of 999 is the DS version (the iOS version removed all the puzzles and some other DS only stuff) and the best version of VLR is for Vita. (The 3DS version has some annoying bugs that can corrupt save data.)

Most people, myself included, will say it's imperative to play the games in order, as starting with VLR will spoil almost all of the major plotpoints/twists in 999, and you definitely don't want to do that as they are quite spectacular. If you like Ace Attorney and DanganRonpa, then you should really like these ones as well. And we might be getting news on a third instalment to the Zero Escape series soon, so now's a great time to jump in.

Looked though my VN backlog and there are a few games I bought sight unseen just because the cover art/description reminded me of other VNs I like. Has anyone played those games? Is one of those either really good or a total disaster? Here's the games and my assumption on what kind of games they are in brackets.

51twaxvcegl._sx385_0duv3.jpg

The "Tsugi no Giseisha o Oshirase Shimasu" series (similiar to 999/VLR ?)

screenshot0027-03-29a0luee.png

The "Ichiyanagi Nagomu Trilogy" (same protagonist, murder mystery in remote location = similiar to Kamaitachi 1-3?)

20121108154849560ngu7u.jpg

"Missing Parts the Tantei" (Famicom Tantei Club, Phoenix Wright?)

Also, I've never heard of Root Double, but it certainly sound interesting. Am I right that there are only 360 and PS3 versions? No portable version?

Apparently Aquaplus is going to be announcing a new VN soon. Too bad it'll probably never be localized.

Time to break out my cookie clicker bot, haven't used that thing in ages.
Utawarerumono sequel?

edit: We just broke off another piece at 25m, I think I'm right. I don't actually know the plot of the game (I haven't played it) so I used spoiler tags just in case.

If by similar you mean "setting is a locked room with murders" than yes. It's actually a pervasive theme in these types of suspense novels.

Only finished the first one, but remember it was interesting enough to get the second one. (GotoP art helps a lot too)

There's also a PC version.

Utawarerumono sequel?
Considering Utawarerumono 2 and Jasmine were the two next projects along with TtT2, it's not surprising that it's one of those two.

Any news for Higurashi Steam?

This is the latest news I think.
Yes, Onikakushi will be released very soon. We'll be announcing information at Anime Boston next week. We also expect the following arcs to take less time since many of the delays have been resolved.

AND Aquapazza. I'd love Uta2 but would be best if they somehow also released an updated version of the first one... Maybe, somehow, Atlus would localize them both.

I'm very hopeful.

The problem is the platform. How dead will the PS3 be in the West by the time a localization is viable?

Well, PS2 stayed relevant for a few years after PS3 came out. There's still tons of games getting localized for it last year and this year. Only a couple companies (K-T, Capcom, Bamco) have started to shrug off PS3 physical copies in favor of PS4, but the games still come out.

PS3 is still doing ok, so it's hard to say.

Thanks for the info, sounds like this will leave the backlog and move into the PSP.

There's also a PC version.

Interesting, with those cheap Windows tablets, this is pretty close to a "real" portable version.

We also will participate in Comitia 112 at Tokyo Big Sight on 5th of May 2015, where this release will be sold as physical media. Visit booth こ29a for your own hardcopy of KS.

We're sure many of you have been looking forward to this release. Hope you'll enjoy Katawa Shoujo!

Man, I so want to play Princess Evangile. Curse my lack of funds... oh well, I guess'll get it sooner or later. The demo is holding me up well so far, at least, though the poor performance on some transitions on both my tablet and laptop(!) is very odd

The engine sucks. It does that even on my gaming PC. Apparently there were limitations that prevented MangaGamer from porting over to their Unity engine and they had to use Moonstone's crappy one.

Is Japanese the only new feature of 1.3? Either way, will download.

Yeah, all the updates have been centered around just translations and bug fixes. I think 1.1 also had some typo fixes and a new version of a song, but this is only a language update.

One other question, a while ago I read about a visual novel that was being created that was inspired by Katawa Shoujo, but I can't remember the name of it. I think it might have been called Stand by? Transmission? there was a preview gui that looked pretty awesome. If anyone can tell me (if it's allowed) pls let me know. haha.

Still waiting for a Miki Route patch, but the Japanese update is pretty cool. I know someone who'd want to go there and pick up the physical disk but might not be able to, so hopefully they hit Comiket too.

Short Aksys teaser update/summary:

No change today => good news, means the counter is not going: 3 days - 1 week - 3 days - 1 week…

It started as 0303[03] => changed after 3 days to 0302 = > then after a week to 0301

Weekly updates seem very likely (feels like going on “4infinity.∞“ ), we’ll know by 16.15 EST this Friday.

If the teaser site is still up after April 1st, we can eliminate the idea of this being the most cruel April fools prank ever perpetrated on mankind

After that, it’s either: 03(months)03(weeks)03(days) OR (0303weeks)03(days). We’ll know Friday after next, depending on the change of the counter. If it's the latter, digital roots idea seems likely.

Conclusion: It’s still a marathon, but not as obtuse as when it started (pictures A and B are useless). We correctly predicted the last change, if it works again then all that's left for us to do is wait.

Is this something that's been hinted at, or just something we all desperately want?

I'm worried they might be saturating the Science Adventure series with this many new projects at once, but if they can maintain the quality, more power to them.

They're sticking to what does best for them, I'm surprised it took this long for 5pb to start releasing so many.

Miki has a lot of fans, but we probably won't get anything real. I think the creators are pretty adamant with their position of "the game is done, it's what it is, and we're done as a group," aside from a few minor changes. There was a preliminary/draft route for Miki, but it never made it in; the closest we've gotten is when Miki's draft got released by it's author last Christmas.

That's a shame. I'm sure her route would've been my favorite :p

Well, apparently they've got this new category called Science Visual Novels which is not directly associated with the Science Adventure series. Occultic;Nine and Anonymous;Code fall into this category. Plus Steins;Gate 0 and Occultic;Nine are at least partially based on existing content, so they've got a strong base to work from.
