What's the string of combo to locked them?

R1 spam of course.

Also, I just want to say, why the hell do my bullets and vials not refill after an invasion. I keep having to go back to the Hunter's Dream just to refill my bullets, that is so annoying with these horrible load times. Some of the design decisions are so questionable, it's like they set out to annoy people at every turn.

Guys, help me. I can't make it to the 2nd lantern and always lose my blood to the big beast that is pounding on the door :(

What tactics are you using when facing him? My advice is to lock on and keep just out of his reach. When he comes in for an attack, or when he winds up and you're in his striking distance, just hit a side step and you shouldn't get hit. Like someone else mentioned, you'll have a window of time to get off a few hits, but don't get greedy. An R1 and L1 combo is probably as much as you should push it before doing a back step. There's a good chance he'll be trying to attack you as you hit the back step, and when he misses run up and hit him with another two piece. Just remember to stay locked and utilize the side steps. Try not to fight him unlocked and don't let him start chasing you around with your back turned.

And also like the other guy mentioned, this is a great chance to practice parrying with your ranged weapon.

Hemwick first. You get an item at the end of it which you should really get.

cheers man. That's the one near the door where i fought amelia correct?

if im facing the Amelia door - i think the entrance is to the area is to the left correct?

I saw another entrance to the right but no idea where that went.

Darkbeast Paarl
gave me the most trouble so far. Targeting the head and not noticing basically made the fight impossible, that target spot is an asshole. Once I switched to the body target spot I was able to actually dodge in and do damage, though I still had issues actually hitting
Paarl
. Weird god damn body shape, ended up going with
Tonitrus
despite it seeming like the boss should resist the attacks. Gave me the best chance of actually landing attacks and just went with it.

That
Electrified mace
is so amazing.. Loving switching from it to my cane. Beat a couple more bosses tonight and made some excellent progress, got over 20 insight and did a bit of PvP.. I am so addicted to this game.

I agreed that that this would be a lot less frustrating with shorter load times, and I can see the argument for estus flask over blood vial, but disposable items have never refilled back in any of the other souls games even after invasion/summon. It wouldn't make sense that your bullets over anything else should replenish.

Anyone got tips for
Amelia
? Attacks hit so hard...I get one shotted a lot.

I'm level 29, btw.

Hmm maybe youre underlevel? When I fought her, I was able able to take 2-3 hits depending on the attack. But I tend to be OP for most battles haha.
Stick close to her legs as mention. She normally attack with her right arm. When that happens sidestep to the right. Sometime she attacks with her left arm, but that doesnt hit as hard and lacks the range as well. Careful of the ground pound attack she does. Normally she uses both hands together before she does it. And make sure you have Numbing Mist in your quick items ;)
Good luck

R1 spam of course.

Just keep in mind that the first 3 R1 attacks of the Blades of Mercy are slower than the subsequent slashes. As such, other hunters are able to get away by dodging during this time but if they dodge wrong and get caught in the spam afterwards, good luck to them.

When should I fight paarl? I'm already a lvl 43 and have beaten the witches and amelia. I found whatever boss that was in the forbidden woods but bounced thinking I shouldn't do it yet.

If you're facing the door Hemwick is to the left. The one to the right is a dead end for now, but you might want to go a little bit in there just to take care of two annoying enemies that won't respawn back.

i think my biggest problem in this game now is just figuring out where the Hell to go next. I killed
Vicar
and now I have just been wondering around for an hour, i feel like in circles, trying to find out what to do next.

Ran through the hellhole before him and found Paarl. First try just like the previous 2 bosses. Only one that's given me any trouble so far is BSB. Kinda disappointing but I had the same experience with Dark Souls lol

Anyone have tips for the hunter in (mid/late game)B
yrgenwerth? Just getting decimated and can barely get an attack in before I'm either being whipped or had lock on magic spewed at me.

Use Ludwigs blade....dont transform it with L1 and start spammin with quick attacks. She wont be able to respond quickly enough. Also, it would be great and extremely helpful if you use Blood of Arianna since it'll restore your stamina quicker..

Also, goddamn!! Am I the only one that hasn't summoned any help from other hunters online? I've been beaten bosses by myself so far and I've just beaten ROM..too by myself....bastard gave me hell but once I figured how to out maneuver his ice boulder attack and spam the dodge button when he unleashes that blue implosion, I fuckin rekt him good. Ludwigs holy blade is useful when when you drop his health in half but using the Axe in its transformed made it easier beating ROM considering the swing radius and hitting nearby spiders if they try to creep in your space. So yeah Im happy...now forward I march to the
Unseen Village...once again...last time that hooded menace killed me and sent me to the prison like place. Never again...

Finally fucking beat VA. I was getting frustrated that i was getting hit by her sweeping attacks even when I dodged, but by playing it more safe than I usually play, I beat her fairly easily just dodging completely out of the way and keeping my distance until she recovered from her heavy attacks. Also swapped from a faster weapon to my heavy ludwig form. Tedious, but it worked -- staggering VA was pretty sweet. Probably the longest boss fight (4-5 minutes or so) since I beat the previous bosses in 2-ish minutes once I knew what I was doing. It was kind of nerve wracking in that way; I felt like I could only chip damage VA down compared to previous bosses where I could parry them pretty easily. Even my charged heavy attack didn't make a significant difference.

Then I took a stroll through the woods and found two different shortcuts which are both pretty damn cool. Finding both shortcuts won me like 60+k souls too, which is fucking ridiculous. I can easily jump forward like 7+ levels now lol

If you're in the church right now, leave and look to your right. There's a forest down there that's technically a side area, but has some valuable items, especially at the end of it. If you want to advance to the next area, go down to the circular graveyard with the two giants and a door will have opened up after beating
Amelia.
That's where you're supposed to go next to actually advance, but I recommend the path next to the church first

To
the door that needed a password, in the big area between the cathedral and the church theres an exit to the right
.

The game is not even obtuse with its directions, it flat out fails to tell you the general direction of where to go. Its bad game design really.

what does logarius's wheel's L1 do?

Opens up the sides and it swirls energy, and then you can rev it up using l2 for more dmg but at the cost of draining your health (quite rapidly too)

This game really encourages you more than any other to explore and look around at your environments, but I agree that its really easy to miss that one.

Spoilers about an NPC you can rescue in H
ypogean Gaol

nseen Village
...

She can apparently kill NPCs in Cathedral Ward, including the old lady as well as Arianna (which would suck), so I just offed her.

Vials and bullets should refresh just like when you die or go back to the Hunter's Dream after a successful invasion, or even a failed one, this game makes it a point to refill them, anyway. All it does is waste time and annoy people by not doing so. 2 loading screens to do something that should be automatic. This is like if they kept sending my shield to the storage and I had to port back to retrieve it every single encounter.

And honestly, I don't care how the older games functioned, because this isn't those games.

So apparently Adella the Nun can
turn on you.
Here's a video of it. That's creepy as hell. How exactly is this triggered? I've also heard that she can
kill Arianna.

it's rare in these kinds of games to tell you where to go. To find the next new area you simply look for areas you haven't explored. Or if you've been there before, you'd remember that you needed a password and revisit it. But of course I can say that because I went straight to the
open courtyard area
and found the next area to go almost immediately after the boss. Lucky I guess :O

No but by that point its just backtracking to areas to see if something will now happen. Theres no reason to think you have a
password
when you get it.

Same as opening up the
Cathedral
in the first place. You have zero reason to think random door #85 opened up leading to that path.

He won't aggro you, I talked to him after joining the covenant & gave him the
unaddressed summons
, when I went to the
queen's lair
, he had already
killed her
, so I took her
heart & revived her at the altar of despair
, & it was like nothing happened.

It's contextual clues: I figured there must be something up with that area because of the
large guards standing down not doing anything.
Explored further and found the path.

Finally beat Rom. Second playthrough and still the worst boss in the game.

I actually just beat it myself. I died just as I struck the last blow. No matter how I dodged, ran or jumped I couldn't reliably avoid the ice storm shit. Not a fan of that fight myself.

The pig in the tunnel is scary ;__; I didn't know what to do when I encountered it, dodged his attack and ran into the tunnel. Found a new a area ^___^ I fucking love this game.

I disagree with the Cathedral part, considering there's more than one way to open it up. You don't have to backtrack to open it up, even if the other way involves 10k blood echos.

People like having a consistent universe in these kind of games, even if it sacrifices convenient features for that consistency. I won't defend all the design decisions, but I can see why its implemented the way it is.

would be friendly? He just told me to turn back.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Beat Rom. Game is surreal and weird and awesome.
Rom took three attempts, the first being my test run where I wasn't stocked up on shit and just ran in blind to see what it was like. Really didn't find him too bad and wonder what difficulties people are having. Crowd control is key; try and take out as many spiderlings as you can before taking on Rom. Both Rom and the spiderlings are have weak heads, but their sides a buttery and deal huge damage. I was one-two hit killing the spiders from the side, three with a front on combo, and they're not too difficult to slowly isolate or dodge away from. Rom too is fairly simple, circle around and lay into his sides, watch for the slam. Annoyance was the projectile summon, but some quick moving and dodging worked wonders. Like, I was able to go in with a clear strategy and patience and it worked fine.

It's not even the same universe. If it's supposed to be consistent, then this lantern 2 feet away from me would refill them no problem, which is also a bad design decision.

I was trying to summon my friend to a boss. We put matching passwords and were speaking on chat. When I got the notification a chime was discovered I was expecting him. Instead an invader took his place. It was so weird.
