Paradox has gained at least 160MM SEK / 18.5MM USD in revenue from Cities and PoE

I really hope Pillars is doing well for a long time. It certainly should be one of those games that has legs especially once it hits good steam sales.

Their track record, as a publisher, was below par before March, but certainly changed with CSL and POE. Hope they're able to capitalize on this success.

As far as I remember, they have released a lot of really crappy games between CK2 and Cities: Skylines? Or at least some stinkes, through publishing.

These two games are sweet and awesome though.

that was all before CKII. They even cancelled some games that didnt meet their new Standard after Swords of the Stars 2

As far as Paradox goes, I want to see them take on The Sims next. That is a franchise that could potentially sell millions upon millions that is completely ripe for pillaging off of EA.

It's funny cause already Cities:Skylines is a better product than SimCity 2013 (an EA property) and then you have Pillars of Eternity doing one hell of a nice job in the party based, IE style RPG space when EA has BioWare under their control.

Kind of shows how out to lunch EA is with things these days it seems, or at least how EA has no desire to capitalize on any of their franchises with PC roots.

It will be interesting to compare lifetime Inquisition and SimCity 2013 against the respective Paradox published releases.

I know SimCity really trailed off due to extremely poor word of mouth and Inquisition had a mixed reception. With the RPG community detesting it, but the mainstream seemed to enjoy it. To be fair, Bioware is targeting the latter demographic at this point.

Think you are forgetting that EA's similar games sell just as well too.

Also keep in mind that this profit came in with under 50 developers in total.
If I got the right numbers, Cities had around 9 and Pillars around 15 devs?

I enjoy it when dev/publisher finds it niche and is successful in it. Hopefully all of them can continue on their streak :)

Yea, well deserved. Cites Skylines is an awesome game. I haven't played Pillars of Eternity yet but I'm sure it's an awesome game as well based on reviews/impressions.

Wow, great numbers for Paradox!

And they deserve it I have both games and I frigging love them. Some of the best games I've played in years.

Paradox is really shaping up to become my favourite publisher.

Many congrats. Their range of games is diverse and exciting, and most are well-built and have been supported appropriately. Glad to know more than anything that city-builders are still a commercially and critically viable genre.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Congrats, just don't lay off all your workforce immediately!

Great news, it's always nice to see deep PC games find success, shows that you don't have to follow trends to make a great and successful game.

Very well deserved. Cities Skylines has made me an addict.

As expected. Both games serve a mature and wealthy audience that is being purposefully ignored by major publishers.

I'm not wealthy nor mature, but I was hooked on Cities Skylines when I read the reviews and saw the gameplay. My friends, who also have the game, are not wealthy or "mature" either. It's just that we love this type of games.

Yeah, with all the mod support of Skylines I am guessing it'll do really well over the long haul, compared to how SimCity kind of burned real bright at launch and flared out.

With Inquisition, I'll be curious how it fares over the long term but I imagine we'll never hear about those numbers unless its EA saying how happy they are with its DLC or something.

Sure, I would just be curious as to how much relative profit they're getting. Something like Skylines probably cost a whole lot less to make than SimCity. Same goes with comparing something like PoE to DA: Inquisition, although that's more apples to oranges considering Inquisition is trying to go for the big graphics and so on.

Still, I'd just be curious as to how bigger publishers like EA see these smaller games considering so many of the bigger "AAA" publishers like EA or Ubisoft seem stuck in this vicious cycle of only making fewer and fewer bigger, more mainstream blockbusters that rival Call of Duty or Skyrim numbers. Obviously something like PoE probably isn't going to ever get Skyrim numbers but given how its likely a whole lot less expensive to produce than something like Inquisition or Skyrim, at what point would some executive stop and think maybe putting out something like a PoE with a smaller team and budget might get them some nice returns? I think "never" is the likely answer since big publishers are only doing the blockbuster approach but I'd be curious nevertheless.

Fantastic news. Paradox is quickly becoming the go-to for PC-ass-PC games, and amazing ones at that. I purchased Cities: Skylines to pass the time before Pillars of Eternity released. ;) Not only is it a fantastic city-builder, but the ease of modding is going to give the game crazy legs.

I would have liked to see more detailed information on the sales for Pillars of Eternity, but congratulations to Obsidian. The game is nothing short of incredible. I'm roughly ~43 hours in, and still relatively early (Act 1; Yes, I'm slow :p), but from what I've played thus far, it could likely be my favorite game of the past decade or more.

I am happy for Colossal Order, Obsidian and Paradox for their well deserved success. I am more than happy for the people that got to buy the games and enjoy them.

Happy for Obsidian and Paradox. I'm knee deep in Bloodborne and mh4u right now, but will be picking both of these up soon.

I wonder what's next for Obsidian?

Their last handful of games have been amazing.

South Park, New Vegas, PoE, Alpha Protocol.... all great games. Are they still doing that MMO? :/

Paradox games and the recent crpg renaissance have gotten me back into pc gaming. It's cool because they make games that I associate with pc's and which are specifically designed for them. Was never really interested in owning a pc to play console games with much better performance.

Way to go Paradox. Now get going on Crusader Kings 3.

To hell with that, we need Victoria III

I'm glad Paradox are doing well, they're really good guys, with continuous support with free content as well as DLC, which is always an afterthought.

There's the expansion and likely a sequel for Pillars of Eternity. A Pathfinder and a Chris Avellone project have been hinted at. In an RPG Codex interview, Avellone had this to say:

mindx2: Apart from the card game with Piazo anything else in the foreseeable future?

Chris: We have Armored Warfare, helping out with the Skyforge MMO and there’s one other unannounced RPG… am I forgetting anything…?

[someone]: Expansion…

mindx2: [towards Chris] Is the unannounced RPG your baby?

[At this point, there was some cross-talk while I was asking Avellone my question, and I clearly heard someone say “Is it one or two expansions?”, and someone else replied, "with an 's', right?". When I asked if there are two expansions, they tried to cover it up, but I wasn't buying it. I said that I had clearly heard an 's' after the word "expansion", but all I got in response was some uncomfortable laughter. Giving up, I repeated my original question to Chris.]

Chris: No it’s not.

Paradox has been extraordinarily smart in terms of how they've marketed their games recently and it doesn't hurt that they've signed some good games in the meantime.

Cities: Skylines practically marketed itself. Man, word of mouth is powerful when it comes to good games.

Give them all the SEKs!

Paradox's approach to both development and publishing has been really impressive of late and I hope that they continue this trend of being awesome for quite some time. The success is very well-deserved.

Didn't streamers and bigger personalities get early access to the game to drum up some more of that interest?

Ah yeah, that's true. Never would have looked into the game prior to release if I hadn't seen that one guy create a giant lake of poop only to have it flood his entire city.
