Amazon Kindle |OT| of eInk superiority

Hi, guys

I ended up getting a paperwhite 2 and a voyage so I'm selling my paperwhite 1 with the amazon paperwhite case. Anyone looking for a kindle?

They haven't canceled it yet. I'm not to familiar with amazon pricing mistakes so I have no idea if they honor it or not.

Seems to be too much money for them to honor it so I'm expecting a cancelation email

I ended up going with a Fintie case for my Voyage. It has great reviews....I'm just not a fan of PU Leather. I hope it's good.

If Amazon doesn't cancel my 60 dollar Voyage, I might splurge in a real nice case

A few people have posted asking about the origami case for the Voyage. I didn't like the look of it from photos but I grabbed one anyway.

Glad I did as I LOVE the case. Yes, the front looks a little odd and tech-y for a Kindle cover but it has a lot going for it. The magnetic pinch and fold stand aspect is great and works easily. Unlike the case for my old Kindle, this one is magnetic so it pops in and out easily if you want to read case-less. It's not so loose that it will drop out or anything but it's just a better experience than the older cases where the device is jammed in. It also automatically turns on when you flip the case open. I opted for the more expensive leather version and it has a nice, tough feel.

I had an Amazon giftcard burning a hole in my pocket so I felt OK splurging on this. It seems worth the cost anyway but YMMV.

I'm finding plenty to read right now. Easy to filter by genre.
I'll have to try doing that then, did find the Handmaiden's Tale which I've been meaning to read for years.

Really enjoying reading on the Nook Voyage as the text is a lot sharper in comparison to the original Nook which I've been using since 2009. Still think it's a shame that this Kindle doesn't feel as premium as that first Nook with the great construction and color screen on the bottom for navigation. Wish Barnes and Noble hadn't started to focus exclusively on the low end market but given their financial situation it makes sense.

Hopefully by the time I next upgrade in 5-6 years color e ink will have risen from the grave

Edit: Half a month later but I obviously meant Kindle Voyage :p

I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite. Really awesome device. Any tips for a newcomer? Are there publishers I should avoid? Some books have multiple releases. I should probably buy the ones that have the most ratings and reviews, right?

Just got a Kindle Paperwhite. Pretty happy with it so far. Is there any way to show how many pages I have left in a chapter? Also, is there any way to get more font options?

thinking of picking up a used Kindle 2012 for my misses since they are dirt cheap these days, I presume they still work regarding amazon account etc...

There seems to be a deal on the basic kindle model right now to celebrate the national reading month, where you can save 20$ on either type of offer. So the special offers version is 59$ and the one without is 79$.

So I've noticed lately that there's a pretty strong discrepancy in the top and bottom parts of the screen in terms of the lighting. Is it too late to switch it out or will they even let you? The Voyage was nearly $300(I got the 3G version to replicate my original nook) plus the cover I ordered so it's a bummer to see and really starting to distracting me while reading.

On top of that the auto back light said screw it and stopped working half the time.

Contact Amazon. It cannot hurt. The auto light feature malfunctioning might be enough. There is a one year warranty. And generally Amazon is really good about replacing Kindles.

I had the tinted display and got a replacement which was actually worse. Ended up sending them both back and getting a PW2 instead.

My mom reads a lot of books but for awhile she's just been reading them on her iPad so she gave me her old Kindle Keyboard 3G. I love this thing. I've wanted a Kindle for awhile so I'm really happy about this. Anyone else still rocking the old KK?

Paperwhite is definitely good enough, but I feel like the Voyage is finally the definitive version of the Kindle and I really have no desire to upgrade until a possible color model.

The flush screen and auto-brightness feature are the big standouts for me.

Voyage only if you want to splurge... I prefer it but it's not a fair comparison since the prices are very different.

I don't think amazon can rejustify this same price to me unless there are much more significant changes in the next model. I think they over charged for the Voyage by a lot.

Yeah, Voyage seems more for those who either read A LOT of ebooks and want an optimal experience or those with money to burn. The benefits for the money are a little nuts.

Paper White or Voyage? I can't decide.

I don't have any experience with the Paperwhite but I replaced my old K5 with a Voyage not two weeks ago, and I think it's absolutely worth it. As has already been posted, the flush bezel and the ambient light sensor make reading on it very pleasant, and I especially like the return of the page turn "buttons". Wouldn't want to go back to anything less than this now.

anyone looking into a Kindle should really compare the models closely on amazon.com's listings, especially the paperwhite Gen 2 vs the Voyage.

You may come away wanting a Voyage, you never know. It's more expensive but it could be worth it for you. the haptic feedback is cool. I also like the fully flat surface (no raised bezel), which makes the touch interface more user friendly. it's also faster but not like a night and day difference. It's smaller than the paperwhite models but the screen size is the same -- they shaved space off in other areas.

It is the best Kindle I've owned so don't count it out if you know you'll be reading often.

The Paperwhite is $80 cheaper and contains all the features I consider important. I don't see much benefit in the Voyage's features, personally.

I enjoy my Paperwhite more than anything else in the house.

Hey guys, I'm buying a kindle PW for my mom. Shes 67 this year and pretty tech ignorant. What is the best way to gift this to her with minimal supervision? I'm thinking of giving her a Kindle unlimited subscription so she can easily download whatever she wants. She's retired and no longer has a credit card- so ala carte purchases will be difficult for her.

Kindle Unlimited is complicated because books can be confusingly marked as KU. Plus the selection of mostly Kindle-only indies might not be to your mother's taste. You also have to manually return the books, which is an awful system.

I'd say just hook up your credit card to the device and have her pay you back every so often.

Does anyone know what's up with the kindle home screen randomly reordering books? Normally the books are displayed with the last read first but the last couple of days I've noticed that it randomly puts older books on my home screen.

If she is really tech ignorant, why don't you drive? Set her kindle up on your Amazon account, and then she can let you know what books she wants and you push them to her kindle for her.

Do you have wifi on? It could be books receiving updates.

Mine is doing the same. The book I'm reading If I go back to the home screen sits back on page 3 of my list of titles, and the bloody user guide sits up top.
