Ewww what happened to this?

I'd take a guess they are still not showing Ultra presets - which includes Hairworks functionality

One thing is for certain. Seeing the game in motion (you know, actual gameplay) shows it in all it's glory. Which most here should know is the case with any game.

I rest my case.

between this, Zelda and Xenoblade X I think I'll spend around 600 hours strolling around. And can't wait to do so

It looks exactly like the Hairworks implementation we got in Far Cry 4.

Not played it, but having a look at google, it seems fairly meh. Anyway my main point was that they said they wouldn't show Ultra presets so "people could be surprised" when they got the game, and we know that that includes hairworks - so I assumed that isn't in this picture.

Edit: I should pay attention to the thread more - case and point

Just to reiterate, these are on high settings, not ultra:

I really hope the foliage will be improved in ultra. The blurriness of it is my biggest gripe. Looks really tacky.

Holy shit at that second screen. So much detail.

Man, GTA V, Witcher 3, Batman, and MGS V all back to back. This is probably the best summer in gaming in a long, long time.

cdpr is so coy over their ultragraphics

will there even be ubersampling?

What I have heard Ubersampling won't be in at launch, but will be patched in later on. I guess they learned their lesson when they shipped Witcher 2 with it, everyone put that on not thinking twice and then proceeded to QQ about how garbage optimisation Witcher 2 allegedly had.

Then people turned that thing off and everything was just fine.

Edit:
I wonder if the fur (Nvidia Hair) can run on a physX GPU. If so... I would consider setting that up.

Hairworks [that Nvidia fur/hair thing] runs on any decently modern Nvidia GPU, just like PhysX.

Well, they said in the past they weren't showing ultra settings until players get the game themselves I believe?
True, but I just wouldn't take anything like that as confirmation. Maybe if the guy had specifically asked, "Is that High or Ultra?" or something.

I dunno. I'm just cautious with this stuff. People are wrong, people interpret comments/questions wrong, differences in language, people guess, and sometimes people just don't know what they're saying.

Last time the 4k screenshot was a "mix of high and ultra", so it wouldnt surprise me if this is the same due to the lack of HBAO+.

I remember that now. Give an idiot a lighter and watch him blame you for burning down your house.

Probably for the best to be honest.

I like how apparently no one is seeing that the above has way les detailed hair.

This is true if you ignore all the posts that DID say that :P

Like I said... they probably had to optimize it for performance. But maybe we'll have an ultra quality setting for the FUR. But that GIF is 2 years old. Long before they had to worry about optimization.

Taking a still shot of moving hair can make it appear more fuzzy. Plus, it is a wolf. I am not expecting:

I think a lot of people are expecting just that. No wonder they made TressFX Lara that way. People will eat it up. Hair physics is the new boob physics.

Hair Works has more shading customizability than TessFX... so it thankfully does not need to be shampoo hair all the time that doesnt interact correctly with the lighting model..

even without motion, you can see, that the above pic has way bigger pieces of hair.
the gif has almost real hair, like we do.

Indeed, even if not in motion is pretty clear that the in-game wolf quality isn't even close to that gif...That said will i get hair phisics on r9 290 or it's an Nvidia exclusive?

Hairworks looks definitely meh in Call of Duty and Far Cry 4.
I don't know if we will see fur like they showed years ago, but the wolf in the picture uses very likely gameworks.
This plastic hair type looks more or less exactly like in FC4.

In this video we see much better looking samples:

I don't know if they changed something for better performance or similiar.
It would be great if there would be different visual levels, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Nvidia exclusive. If you are "lucky" you can run it on your CPU, but if its anything like PhysX it will choke your CPU to death.

I wish they would show off Ultra settings. I will drop $1k for a Titan X if it makes my jaw drop. =x

perhaps the details we think they lack are on ultra setting ( ex : for the wolf) . at least the high setting is beautifull . For my point >> i have at this moment witcher 2 on my pc i try it on high and i try ultra >> there is a big gap of texture and details

A dedicated PhysX GPU is what I meant. Obviously, it is a GPU effect.

Well, hairworks uses DirectCompute so if you can use a physx card for other DirectCompute applications then yes. But I doubt DirectX supports that (HairWorks might have a physx backend, however).

Imo, that was more showing the Hairworks tech, and how it could improve the aspect. But it was an extreme case, comparing from 0 to the "extreme hair" setting. It wasn't intended to show how it was the actual wolf model of the real game.
Notice how they had an empty editor when showing the wolf. In a real game, with more stuff per frame, you can't put that much hair. Maybe on the main character, because you know there is always one of it, but not several enemies on screen.

And also, we can imagine the fur will move a bit too in movement in the white wolves.
