What are your thoughts on the MK9 stick? I've been thinking of getting one just for collecting purposes, but I'm not sure how well it would play...

Everything is great, just swap the stock lever and button for arcade quality IL parts.
I did that back in 2011 and it still plays great to this day.

Hopefully my medically induced Mini Midlife Crisis is over now, this is the final cab setup. I just picked up Mike's second available Atomiswave in Walnut, he doesn't want Candy cabs at the new Super Arcade. I ended up giving my father the Pony and Sega Aero City which he has become obsessed with.

From Left to right

Sega Astro City w/ MVS Motherboard so I will swap out games as I find them. Needs a new set of buttons and sticks and a few coats of paint. It was a steal at $100

Atomiswave #1 w/ Naomi GD-Rom currently has Street Fighter Upper 3 Develop Edition. I will switch with other games as I find them, but not often. Switching two player control panel with
Atomiswave#2 and adding a second stick.

Egret II w/ Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. It is perfect, it will remain as it is.

Atomiswave #2 w/ Naomi and MvC2, going to add that 2p panel on it. Need to get another Maquee.

This is the most cheapest PS4 stick I have ever seen.

- Cross platform support between PS3/PS4/PC
- The case made of woods
- Can be opened easily
- Samducksa(Crown) Joystick
- About $82 (88000 won)

Although It's already selling at istmall, just the image doesn't updated to new one.
Hmm... Sounds interesting.

I do have the same stick but without PS4 support. Opening the stick is sorta easy but weird since it's nailed in so expect getting hurt with cuts. Maybe they will use a hinge system instead.

If you want to get it, you probably have to go to Korea directly since international sales are done through stores like GMarket. Also will add that if GMarket did sell the PS4 version of the IST MDF stick, shipping prices is $50+ to US so you might as well buy a PS4 stick available here.

For anyone that's looking to use their PS3 arcade sticks with the PS4 version of Mortal Kombat X...

You will need a PS4 controller (Dual Shock 4 or existing PS4 arcade stick) to authenticate and assign a profile to for the PS3 "legacy controller" to work.

If you want two PS3 arcade sticks to work, then you will need two PS4 controllers (DS4 or PS4 sticks) to use for the authentication progress. The controller used for authentication must be kept plugged in or charged (DS4). If the signal is disconnected then the PS3 controller will cease to operate within the game. One thing that may be an issue is that the PS4 only has 2 USB ports, so plan accordingly (powered hub etc).

Will this be the same for Skullgirls? I assume so since MK uses the same tech, right?

Atleast the effort is there to try and make them work but I'll be using my PDP Fightstick for MKX. This is too much work IMO before you can jump in and enjoy the game. Kudos for trying though.

That's entirely up to MKX/NRS, it has nothing to do with devkit vs retail. A profile is not required for the driver, it is required by the GAME for savedata and trophies and things. The PS3 driver itself doesn't care about any profiles or anything at all besides which sticks are plugged in. (Though I would assume you don't need to keep the controller actually physically plugged in, just not dead, so the 2 USB ports isn't really an issue unless you're at low battery, and you can probably plug the DS4 into another USB port on your PC or phone charger. That's some sideways spin there, heh.)

SG does NOT work that way, as already shown on repeated Salty streams. SG keeps the profile that started the game always logged in, and that's the only profile it uses no matter which controllers you add or remove. You need a single DS4 to press one button and dismiss the "You plugged in a legacy controller, the Home button won't work" message that you get when plugging in a PS3 stick the first time - and we're trying to fix that, too! - but after that point you can disconnect the DS4 and play the game entirely with PS3 sticks until you turn it off. I even wrote special code where if the DS4 was in charge of the menus, when you unplug it the game finds the first PS3 stick and puts that one in charge, which is not how other console versions work.

I don't have a GAF account, but there ya go.

I need to make it clear though. From my testing, if you want TWO PS3 FightSticks to work, you will need TWO PS4 controllers (DS4 or whatever is a licensed PS4 controller). And they will need to stay on (or be plugged in if it's a wired device) - otherwise it won't work.

This seems to be related to the way NRS implemented profiles for trophies, etc., because that's not how it works in Skullgirls.

The driver itself doesn't require any sort of linking to profiles, which is what seems to be the complicating factor here.

Here're Mike's full thoughts on this:

[edit] Just checked with my phone charger, you can leave a DS4 connected to your PS4 and charge it that way. If you connect it to something else that recognizes it as a controller (like your PC, with DS4 drivers) then it will disconnect from the PS4.

Question Gaf,

I have 2 360 Madcatz fightsticks SE. These here, I added sanwa parts to both sticks. Would I be better off selling them to put towards new sticks or modding them to somehow work with PS4 if that is even possible? Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Maybe I'm confused but aren't you still going to have to do the same process with that PDP Fightstick? They haven't made a PS4 MK stick that I know of (yet)

Holy jesus, I can't even imagine trying to use those WASD keys, and how on earth would you play a 6 button fighter

Makes as much sense as lining up three more buttons after the 6 buttons already on the stick. But apparently that was a super terrific idea that everyone needed to do.

Last gen sticks are low demand right now as EVERYBODY is trying to offload their old sticks to finance the newer sticks, especially considering that they have ps3/4 functionality built in on Sony side.

Unfortunately the SE sticks are very low demand. So there's a very good chance you won't even be able to sell them. If you are comfortable modding then I would recommend that. The recommended ps4 padhack is the Hori Fighting Commander 4.

I dunno... Amazon seems willing to take them for $65, which seems like a pretty good deal especially since you'd send it to them with the stock parts reinstalled. You need the box and everything to get the full value there... or just try to sell them in the marketplace, where people frequently overpay for things. I didn't believe how much I got for my old EX2.

I didn't believe you but I just checked and yup you are right. This would be a good value back and the easiest method.

It's a buyer's market though for sure. I just bought a used excellent condition round 1 TE for $50 over the weekend for the purposes of dual modding. About a month ago, I bought one for $60. Anecdotal evidence and what not.

Maybe I'm confused but to my knowledge, Netherrealm didn't announce this crazy method to get a PDP PS3 stick working but I'm not sure. If so, then I'm glad I got 2 VLX's coming to me.

December? Dont play with my heart.
If this turns out to be true.... Only reason I didn't pick up a new VLX when they were announced was because of the coating (current VLX looks mighty beat up thanks to the black coating coming off). A new FE though? Same day it is available for pre-order.

I actually thought about selling them to amazon, I have the boxes but could only send one since I dont have parts for one of them because I bought it like that from someone. I may just have to sit on them and just move on to an actually ps4 stick. Thanks for the help guys.

ALSO, what sticks PS3 sticks are compatible with the PS4? Or are the only ones that work are the MK sticks?

Bleh, I assumed shipping would be closer to $30.

So I guess it's still impossible to get a PS4 arcade stick for less than $150 in the US. Sigh.

I miss last gen where you could easily get high quality sticks for $100-$120.

Me too. VSHG launched at the then equivalent of $72 USD. Best price to performance ratio I've seen (assuming you got the 2nd run PCB, lol). I wonder if we'll ever get back to that.

Venom in DE is the closest thing to it. They're using Sanwa parts for their PS4 stick. Also, it pretty much is the newest iteration of the Elecom that is sourced for it.

Also, in regards to the VSHG. I love the stick. I just don't love it with TEKKEN. Even with both PCB revisions (I have 3 different versions); they all have issues with 3 or more inputs! It's maddening! Easy fix sure, but still annoying.

Any good entry level fight sticks for PS4?
Ended up buying SFIV Round 2 Arcade Edition stick for my PS3 but got such little use from it,
I assume there's no hope for them making it PS4 compatible?
I'm hesitant to invest alot more for a PS4 one, however I cannot enjoy fighting games with gamepads.

Edit: ah seems like everyone is discussing the pretty much same thing right now

Edit2: Are the dongles that make last gen stuff work with this gen like Titan One a total hoax?

Honestly, I haven't tested the new converters but generally I stay away from most as they have issues. The only ones I will stand by are PS2 to Xbox 360 / PS3 ones LOL.

In regards to PS4 solutions, I believe the best course of action at this point is modding. If you want full functionality, I would go with a DS4 pad hack mod. FC4 is cheaper and gets the job done too. The MKX PDP pad works as well but has some weird issues.

Only thing I am weary about for my VLX...

How many people who have the original red VLX have had paint issues?

People I know who used it as their main stick had the issue. I didn't use mine enough to notice it. I have however played extensively on the VLX Diamond and I WISH the new PS4 VLX was like that ;(

Oh huh, I didn't know Amazon.de was selling the Venom stick. Comes to about $90 shipped, and I can swap out the stick and buttons fairly easily based on what I've read on SRK. I think I'm gonna go for it.

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but has anyone tried/had success using the Xbox 360 Mortal Kombat Tournament Stick on PC? I'm trying to use it for MK X, but I can't get windows to recognize it. It sees it in the device manager as XB360 Mortal Kombat FightStick but it has the caution triangle, and it doesn't give the satisfying USB device connected beep. It has like a dull beep, the light in the circle goes on for a second, and shuts down.

Any help is appreciated! I tried to search for it, but I couldn't find anything on here about it, and if google it, most people say the thing is just plug n play.

Thanks!

It's a glorified 360 controller, so in theory it should work like any other 360 controller on PC. Have you used a 360 controller on your PC before? If not you may need to install the Xbox 360 controller for Windows drivers.

So I finally got sick of looking at the oils on the artwork of my new USFIV TE2 and thought I'd take the plexi off to clean it, but the shaft of the included hex screwdriver just spins around in the handle. Can anyone tell me what size hex key I can use to replace that with?

See that's what I thought too. Yeah, I have that software you linked already installed, and I've used both wired and wireless 360 controllers on it (I'm using the 360 controller in the meantime playing MK). It's pretty weird...I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, too. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
