What do you Think Bloodborne's Sales mean for Sony/From/Souls going Forward

New From Software zombie apocalypse game.

I've always felt the Souls series heavily emphasized survival.

You wake up in a hospital realizing you are immune to the disease...trying to find out what the hell happened to the city. They'll be able to make amazing lore from this.

Forget the swords, spears, and axes...give us baseball bats, shovels, 4 by 4's, and other similar weapons.

Forget the vials and Estus flasks...give us water, food, and bandages for survival. Have minimal NPC humans/survivors to talk to just like Souls/Bloodborne.

Have flare guns available for coop and something else for invading other "survivors".

They can make some amazing enemy designs and also make the human enemies ruthless like the Hunters in BB.

This game would be golden.

Nooo thank you

Actually those sales say the exact opposite. They say that there's much more opportunity for this type of game across the entire market.

Sure, but you have to consider that they're already doing this well, better than the multiplat DS2 and with Sony pretty much raking all the financial risk.

The Bloodborne deal was likely signed before Kadokawa bought From Software, so I wouldn't be too sure that Miyazaki's team is going to make another Sony exclusive next. I wouldn't mind it, but looking at Steam Spy the late PC port of Dark Souls 1 alone sold close to 2 million copies. Would they really want to give up on revenue like that?

Kadokawa has no problem with Playstation exclusives. Would be business as usual for them without footing the bill.

Kodakawa themselves have announced two new exclusives to PS platforms recently. Most of their games are exclusive to Sony platforms. I very much doubt that they'd block Miyazaki from making exclusives for them.

I don't want to tease to much, but if your a FS fan PS4 will continue to be your home.
Considering how quickly the Dark Souls II Remaster dropped on the XB1, I'm not surprised.

Souls fans are mostly found on the Playstation platform. Kadokawa/FROM are probably aware of this.

I really doubt they bought the company only to have them do work for hire for Sony. Having Sony foot the bill for a massively successful game is not a good thing; it just means less profit.

As for Kadokawa doing exclusives, none of their other games are near the scale of Froms games or have anywhere near the international appeal, so it's not really comparable at all.

I suspect Dark Souls III is still a lock since it lets them hit all the platforms with Namco being the publisher. But another Bloodborne or another new title in souls vein for PS4 is probably a certainty at this point. Kinda hilarious that SCEA wouldn't even publish something like this five and a half years ago. They're going to have a strong audience to build on with this game having come out much earlier in the hardware cycle relative to Demon's Souls.

Would probably be best to wait until after E3 to start speculating. Kadokawa Shoten is all over the map as a publisher and From Software isn't really an exception to that rule.

Looking at it, Japanese publishing seems really disjointed. A million copies in ten days isn't really breaking any records or anything. Bloodborne's popular for now but doesn't seem like it's going to set the world on fire. It's certainly no World of Warcraft (not that I'm saying it should be).

The A team just wrapped up BB, and the B team has had at least a portion of their time dedicated to DLC and the next gen remaster/update, so I am not too sure we see another "Souls" game a year from now.

Most likely scenario is a BB DLC a few months down the road and probably the next main title in late 2016 or early 2017.

It's in the OP dude. BB is selling faster on a console with 20 million units versus DS2 on 160 million
???

Bandai Namco announced that its latest entry in the Souls franchise, Dark Souls 2, sold 1.2 million units by the end of March, 2014—just three weeks after its launch on Xbox 360 and PS3.

[ . . . ]

We likely won’t know just how well the game has fared overall until sales numbers for the PC version are released. That version, which boasts better graphics but still not the look originally advertised, launched in April.

That quote on the OP implies that PC numbers are included.

Yeah I had a feeling. Miyazaki just seems to enjoy his work with Sony so it's no surprise he will continue working exclusively with the platform.

Can't wait to see what comes next. A full on Demons remaster would actually get me incredibly excited. Same with Demons Souls 2, a large Bloodborne expansion, Bloodborne 2 or whatever else Miyazaki wants to work on.

I would actually love a new Armored Core title

I think BB's success shows you can make a mid-range budget title with great fundamentals and have it be a huge hit. I hope it makes other developers take notice and discourage themselves from chasing the AAA, 5+ million sales dragons.

I think they're going to sell out and license 'known' brands, sort of like Lego does with Batman, Indiana Jones, etc, except with more appropriate licensees.

For example, maybe they'll do a Friday the 13th crossover called JasonBorne.
