It seems like it's been ages since the DLC indigogo campaign to inject more characters into the beautifully hand drawn and animated 2D fighting game after it's long struggle with...literally everything that could be thrown at it.

Beowulf makes his debut this week on the 17th for all current versions.

Similar to previous character additions, Beowulf will be free to download for three months.

This patch will also contain more than a few balance changes for the game’s existing cast, so stay tuned for official word on these adjustments from Lab Zero Games.

From concept:

To full character:

Beowulf Playstyle is described http://skullgirls.wikia.com/wiki/Beowulf

Classic pro wrestling, including violence with his favorite folding chair. Dubbed The Hurting, the legendary piece of furniture could supposedly support a Gigan if one could fit on it.

Beowulf can set his chair on the stage for various effects. He can knock opponents into it, do elevated slams off of it, or just stand on it as a platform to alter the height of his ground attacks. It could also be like Captain America’s shield in that he can throw it, but it needs to be recovered to be used again. In addition to standard pro-wrestling moves like dropkicks and powerbombs, souvenirs from past victories may aid him in battle - after all, it’s only illegal if there’s a referee.

Neato, I look forward to gawking at whatever animations they've whipped up this time and marking out for wrasslin' references.
Oh and does this mean new Yamane music sneaking its way in? I can only hope.

whoaa I didn't know this would be free. Still sad that Isaac (I think that was the name) wasn't chosen but Beowulf's still pretty cool.

Just started getting into Skullgirls after owning it for months. I will try to incorporate him into my team of Valentine and Ms. Fortune.

Are there more coming after Beowulf?

It's been a while since I played, hope my muscles remember all those Filia combos.

He's a great original character, I love that all the characters basically play very differently from each other.

Couple of great palettes for Beowulf:

New stage music was actually done by Brenton Kossak and Blaine McGurty, who did many of the cutscene tunes in the game.

But it's still godlike

Well I can't be too excited. I got Skullgirls for the PS3 and I'll download Beowulf if he's free (which he'll probably be), but I'll watch his story on YouTube.

Big Band and this irk me in Skullgirls. I don't want male characters in a game called Skullgirls. I am probably the only one that feels this way. Might as well call it Skull boys and girls.

Interesting design..and then I get to the folding chair on his back. Wut?

He's a professional wrestler, so he fights with a folding chair. You can throw it, use it in combos etc.

This has been addressed lots of times already.

I don't approve.
If it makes you feel any better, 2 or 3 characters are getting Annie palettes. Now there's a whole Star Squad.

You know the title refers to the main antagonistic force and not the cast, right

Kinda have opposing feelings towards Beowulf but I'll give his story mode a try at the very least. He's not an easy character so all the big Beowulf fans might struggle.

I'm guessing Beowulf's alternative colour palette on the left is based off of Batman, but what character is the alt. colour on the right based off of?

Pretty sure that's supposed to be William Riker from Star Trek The Next Generation

Edit: 2slow

Woo - a thread!

First, haven't seen it here, but there's some confusion on Twitter, so figured I'd address it...

Yes, it's really the 17th! Sony is starting daily rolling store updates tomorrow, and we're one of the first titles to take advantage of this new feature.

Oh, the memories...

I never thought he'd be that interesting but hopefully playing him will prove me wrong. That super looks hype.

He even has a literal crowd hype mechanic to power up his grapple finishers in supers.

This sort of comment will always remind me of my favorite Skullgirls pitch story, when we were pitching it to some French Ubisoft guys.

Thick-accented Ubi Guy: But eef there will be men in it, why is eet called Skullgirls?

Alex: It's a story reference to the main boss, the Skullgirl, and how a bunch of the character could become the next one.

Me: And we couldn't very well call it "Skullfolk," either.

Ubi Guy: Skullfuck?

::super awkward silence::

Everyone: <Uproarious laughter>

Oh and does this mean new Yamane music sneaking its way in? I can only hope.

As someone mentioned, it's Brenton and Blaine, and they did an amazing job.

We did give Yamane a chance, but she just wasn't getting the mood / cheese / etc. of American pro-wrestling, so we had to move on to get him done.

Don't worry, though - Robo-Fortune's stage had a new Yamane track, and a previous stage with reused music will be getting a Yamane remix, too.

Many people on the team think Beowulf's story is our best yet, so I hope you enjoy it.
