These are my predictions.
  • Avengers 2 will be #1 Foreign and WW for 2015
  • Force Awakens will be #1 Domestic for 2015
  • Both will pass 1 billion
  • Neither will reach 2 Billion (if they do, well Holy Shit) but Avengers 2 will get closest to it
  • Force Awakens will have the highest RT

I might have posted before, but I'll make a new prediction now that the recent SW trailer dropped:

OW: Avengers almost certainly

DOM: Avengers 3:1 chance (critical reception will play a big role for SW, and also could potentially have a 40mil+ impact on Avengers)

WW: Split, w/ slight edge for SW. Avengers is bound to break 1bil OS, but lord knows what the expansion in the OS market over the past 10 YEARS could mean for SW. I think there's a potiential for Avatar-esque numbers if SW gets a perfect storm going. Otherwise, it's anyone's guess.

Final Predicts (assuming similarly warm critical reception):
Avengers: 230 mil OW, 630 DOM, 1.1 bil OS
SW: 180 mil OW, 590 DOM, 1.2 bil OS

My moneys on Star Wars.

People had a good Avengers movie recently.

People have not had a good Star Wars Movie since Jedi.

Star Wars, I think the OT connections will make it ridiculously huge

But the real winner is Disney, good lord

Solid predictions, I'm on your side

I will add that Force Awakens will have a better RT score, but not by a giant amount. 7 points or less

I'm changing my bet.

At this point I believe Star Wars is going to be #1 in sales. It's been years since we've had a Star Wars film and it opens up in December. What else opened up in December? Avatar.

However, as good as the trailer looks I put my trust in Whedon over JJ in terms of a quality film. The Avengers looked like a disaster and yet it resonated with fans a lot more and it somehow beat The Dark Knight Rises, a film every Nolan diehard were betting their lives that it will gross more and be the better film entirely. JJ has never made a great film. Super 8 was trying to be E.T but it goes into schlock second half. Star Trek is a fun action but not a great Star Trek movie. Into Darkness was boring. The greatest thing JJ has done was co-create Lost (have not seen MI:III). But, most critics won't realize this and still give the film good scores (Into Darkness is 87%). So, I do predict that the RT scores for both films will be around the same but fans will most likely realize that AoU is the better film.

Of course this is all a prediction. I would love for Star Wars to be great and I'm hoping that it is but I'm not expecting it for it to be.

Conflicted in answering this.

The Hype right now is for Starwars. I would say it is close to Phatom Menace hype right now, that is pretty fucking big. If the movie is what we expected the Prequels to be, it will be the Biggest movie of the year by far Domestically, possibly surpassing anything and everything in its path.

Not so sure about WW.

1. Reddit, c'mon
2. I agree with one of the top comments, it reads like it was meant to tick all the Reddit checkboxes

I just assume that 95% of the people posting on Reddit are doing it for attention. Saying a highly anticipated film is garbage will get you a lot more attention than saying you liked it.

That said, Marvel is like 1 in 3 with their first sequels so far, so who knows.

Star Wars is going to crush everything. We're going back to 1977 levels of hype with this one.

In Asian countries people don't care about Star Wars much if at all whereas Avengers Team is super popular. So there is no way SW can beat Avengers in worldwide gross.

Personally, I've quite low interest in Avengers and am more interested in SW.

Prediction time:

Domestic BO: Star Wars (Avengers not far behind)
Worldwide: Avengers

RT score: Avengers (chances of a Star Wars movie getting negative reviews are higher)

No, they're really not. Avengers will get the Furious 7 crowd plus the comic book crowd. Star Wars hasn't been relevant since the 70's.

The same Star Wars that generates $1 billion in sold merchandise every year?

Uh...1980 would be more appropriate.

1977 it was a complete unknown

It's Star Wars. It has the Original cast, I think everyone underestimates what kind of megaton nuclear bomb that is. The cast of maybe the most beloved movies of all time are back after 30 years, together again in a movie no one believed would ever happen. Every single age group is going to go nuts for this.

It's going to be insane and be the better movie.

Star Wars. It's going to be the nostalgia factor that brings EVERYONE in.

Earning that junior tag
So much this.

Today I saw baby boomers I work with and on Twitter go absolutely nuts over the second teaser, all reminiscing about 1977.

If that's the slightest indication then: Star Wars. All ages will be going to see it. Not once, not twice but many, many times.

Can'y exactly say the same for Ultron.

If they were both released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Decided to see how things were looking over at BoxOffice.com forums. Consensus there now seems that without question it will be topping Avengers, and it even has a decent chance to surpass Avatar as the #1 grossing movie domestically (not worldwide of course). In terms of domestic, the baseline there seems to be at least 600 mil now, many in the 700 mil range.

I am thinking about 760 mil domestic for Star Wars now, 2.2 bill worldwide.

Yes, I know. But F7 is doing insanely well and, if it hasn't already grossed over $1 billion, is on track to do it more quickly than The Avengers.

Meanwhile, the last Star Wars films didn't even outpace their contemporary Spider-Man competitors.

That's because even Star Wars fans think the prequel trilogy is mediocre to straight up godawful, and word of mouth hurt the movies (and rightly so, Episode I is offensively terrible). The new trilogy where Lucas isn't around to muck around with it has hype levels over 9000 and rising.

If Age of Ultron makes more money INTERNATIONALLY and gets a better Tomato score.. then you can ban me

Bold.

Age of Ultron is a lock to be one of the best comic book movies ever. The RT score won't be less than 85%.

Star Wars VII is looking good so far and I think it will review well (even Into Darkness did), but it could prove to be too similar to the first movie.

That being said, Star Wars will definitely have the bigger box office, so I think you're safe.

Box office forums are about as informed as GAF when it comes to movie performance. Some of them make solid predictions, but you have to wade through so much fanboy shit that any consensus is useless.
